Miami-Dade County Public Schools could be losing its head of human resources, or gaining a mayor.
Let the speculation begin now that Enid Weisman, the district's chief human capital officer, has filed to run for mayor of the city of Aventura. The election is in November and current Mayor Susan Gottlieb is term-limited.
“I believe the most important government is local government,” said Weisman, 66, who has never run for public office. “I have a passion I can bring to government that I brought to education.”
Weisman lives in Avenutra with her husband. She was formerly principal of Dr. Michael Krop Senior High and region superintendent over schools in the northeast parts of Miami-Dade.
She said her experience overseeing a workforce of roughly 50,000 and negotiating labor contracts would be a boon to the city of 35,000. If victorious, she said she might retire from her current post, which pays her about $120,000 a year.
“I don’t know that I’ll do that,” she said. “I haven’t made that decision yet.”
