The Battle of Olustee was waged 150 years ago at the height of the Civil War, but a more recent battle over Olustee may be settled by the Legislature. That proposal and others are on the agenda for the start of the fourth week of session.
Here's what to watch on Monday:
After descendants of Confederate soldiers balked at an attempt to place a Union monument at a historic battlefield in Baker County, Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, drafted a bill requiring legislative approval to alter commemorative sites. The House Agriculture & Natural Resources Subcommittee considers HB 493 today.
The House Transportation & Highway Safety Subcommittee will consider HB 7005, a wide-ranging transportation bill that also includes new limitations on red-light cameras.
The House Education Appropriations Subcommittee will take up a measure seeking to simplify the school grading formula, HB 7117.
Three HCA trauma centers that are being challenged in court would be protected under a proposal that The House Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee will consider, HB 7113.
The House's Government Operations Appropriations Committee takes up HB 879, legislation designed to encourage more private insurance companies to write flood insurance policies.
