GOP mum on all those trips to King Ranch

@craigtimes

@mikevansickler

On a Friday in February 2013, Gov. Rick Scott stepped aboard a Texas-bound plane to take part in a secret ritual for Florida's power elite.

As other politicians had done before and would do after, Scott was departing for historic King Ranch, one of North America's premier hunting grounds. The trips, records indicate, were financed all or in part with contributions from Florida's sugar industry, right down to the hunting licenses.

Scott won't answer questions about his trip. After weeks of requests from the Times/Herald, his campaign staff released a one-paragraph statement on Friday saying he had gone to King Ranch "in support of his political fundraising efforts."

Also keeping mum: state House leaders who have accepted similar trips in the past three years, ever since U.S. Sugar leased 30,000 acres at the ranch and built a hunting lodge amid its rolling hills.

Shhhhh....

It'll be interesting to read what the Scott supporters think of this.

If they waive it off as no big deal, they can hardly criticize an opponent for doing the same thing.

They'll probably try anyway, but that would be so transparently hypocritical.

I sense a new wave of 'answering in repeated soundbites' coming soon to a TV channel near you.

No matter who wins the primary, this is a subject that has a legitimate place in the gubernatorial debate, meaning a discussion of the practice as a whole and whether it should be tolerated or regulated differently than it is now, not a 'piling on' Gov. Scott over this specific issue.

That's why the sugar industry can literally decimate Florida's natural land. The sugar industry paid.

The citizens are pleased that their governor is able to enjoy one of the country's fine traditions of hunting for all of his hard work whether it be in the many available locations in florida that this democrat primary voter frequents or in a state that rivals this state as the most successful state in the country. The citizens are proud of the rivalry with the great state of texas which makes both states stronger as they compete to be the best environment for business and to raise a family.

Voice of reason

If the citizens were so pleased then why won't Scott answer questions about this secret ritual for the power elite?

As we have seen there are some jealous of others who have nothing to do but follow their activities at all hours of the day as they take more pleasure from the misfortune of others than for their own positive misfortune and more pain from the pleasure of others than their own pain. The citizens know that just like every job a political leader has time off and they have no problem with their president playing golf on many occasions or caring for his ranch just as they have no problem with their governor enjoying some time off.

The citizens do not expect their governor to explain his time off to them and have little need to have their political leaders constantly be questioned by media members from the opposite political party. If there is information that the citizens need, their political leaders can communicate it directly to them without a media filter.

Florida has the best politicians money can buy.

Can't take anymore

The King Ranch folks will probably soon begin offering a new hunt for these Florida boys. Live Democrats will be brought in and once released from their crates will be fair game. Our distinguished political leaders will probably find shooting at them far better sport than the elderly former zoo animals they have been blasting for many years. Our boys know happiness is a warm gun and a big campaign donation check.

There is no rivalry with the state of Texas as far as best environment for business. Texas won that a long time ago. According to a recent business cable network analysis, Texas ranked as the #2 top state for business behind only Georgia, while Florida ranked a distant #20. Texas ranked much higher than Florida with a stronger economy, better infrastructure, stronger technology & innovation, stronger business-friendly environment, better education, lower cost of living and stronger access to capital. The scumbag Scott talks a good game but that's all it is. He'd really better get to work, instead of goofing off by shooting defenseless animals, if he wants the state to be better than a mediocre 20th.

Bill Thompson

This is just one more example of the scumbag Scott answering to big corporate money only and ignoring the needs of everyday Floridians. This most horrible man does not care about the needs of everyday Floridians and holds them in disdain, insulting them by not asnwering questions and hiding inside his mansion, private jet and suv's with dark tinted windows.

Bill Thompson

This scumbag Scott claims to be all for transparency, but it's obvious it is just lip service by this most horrible man. He continues with his secretive activities, failing to post them on his official schedule or disclose them in any transparent way. He doesn't pay any attention to everyday Floridians and their needs and chooses to hobnob with rich campaign contributors at secretive out of state sites instead of supporting resorts in our own family friendly state. Florida citizens are outraged at this disgraceful behavior and yearn to have an ethical governor that walks the walk on integrity and transparency as they had in the great former governors Askew, Graham and Chiles.

Bill Thompson

This is one more example why Texas is a more prosperous state than Florida. The Florida GOP political leaders, their lobbyists and corporate supporters are all in Texas having secretive meetings behind closed doors on a private ranch far from the borders of our family friendly state and spending money supporting the Texas economy. These horrible people are thumbing their noses at everyday Floridians, at transparency and integrity. They are making pay to play deals at these meetings that will affect everyday Floridians lives and the citizens have a right to know what is going on at these remote, faraway, secretive meetings.

This is just one more example of the scumbag Scott answering to big corporate money only and ignoring the needs of everyday Floridians. This most horrible man does not care about the needs of everyday Floridians and holds them in disdain, insulting them by not answering questions and hiding inside his mansion, private jet and suv's with dark tinted windows. Meanwhile, Florida ranks a mediocre #20 in states that are best to do business in by a recent business TV network analysis.
