Environmental group airs Florida TV ad against Tillerson

via @learyreports

An advocacy group is running a TV ad in Florida in hopes of stirring public opposition to Rex Tillerson, President-elect Donald Trump's pick for secretary of state.

NextGen Climate paints Tillerson as too friendly to Vladimir Putin and accuses him of "putting corporate profits ahead of America's health, safety and security."

Florida has been a focus in recent elections for NextGen Climate, run by billionaire Democratic activist Tom Steyer. Sen. Marco Rubio has raised doubts about Tillerson, whose confirmation hearings begin Wednesday, but on foreign policy grounds, not environmental.

A NextGen spokesman has not yet responded to a question about the size of the TV buy in Florida. The ad is also running in Arizona, California, Maryland, Nevada, Virginia and Washington, D.C., the group said.
