Battle for the throne

Narnia Since Speed Racer has deservedly wiped out at the box office, it will be up to The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian to dethrone Iron Man as the most popular movie in America.

Considering the first Narnia movie grossed an astonishing $744 million worldwide (including nearly $300 million in the U.S. alone), it's a safe bet Caspian will be sitting atop the box office charts at the end of this weekend. Its reign will be short-lived, though: Arriving Thursday is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which is expected to show all these young'uns how to really rake in the bucks. I'm seeing it Sunday morning and I can't wait.

If Narnia doesn't do it for you (and really, if you're over the age of 15, you're better off watching Braveheart again: it's pretty much the same story, minus the talking mice), there are two other movies opening today worth checking out.

Rambow Son of Rambow, which opens at the AMC Aventura, is an exceedingly charming comedy about two boys, a video camera and an obsession with First Blood. Also finally opening today (but only in Broward, natch) is Gus Van Sant's Paranoid Park, which you can catch at the Gateway. If you're in Miami, it's definitely worth the drive.

Juan

Caspian will easily be number 1 and probabl draw a BIG weekend. Especially with everyone already having seen Iron Man(twice for some). Speed Racer FLOPPED big time, so kids chose Iron Man over that. Very wisely too of course. So now they'll all go see Caspian. I enjoyed the first one. Wasn't anything brilliant, but I was entertained. I expected it to be god aweful but I thought it had enough charm to keep it going, so i'm expecting this one to be good too.

Of course we got Jones next week, which I can't wait for. I hope its good!

can't fight this feeling anymore

I second the motion that Paranoid Park is worth a drive to Broward, if you're a fan of Gus Van Sant's last couple of movies. It's haunting, and it's got a great and interesting soundtrack - not a bunch of trendy songs, but songs that fit each moment. It'll stick with you longer than you might suspect.
