Brian de Palma's great, gaudy Marielito crime epic Scarface turns 25 this year, and to celebrate, the Friends of Gusman, a non-profit organization that supports the maintenance and restoration of the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, will hold a benefit screening of the film at 8 p.m. Friday Aug. 22.
Steven Bauer, who played Tony Montana's right-hand man Manolo, will attend, as will Hollywood hotshot Brett Ratner, who was born and raised in Miami and ranks Scarface among his favorite films. If you've never seen Scarface on the big screen, here's your chance to see it on a really big one. Tickets are $15 and available through Ticketmaster.

Why does the Gusman have a "really big" screen? How often are movies shown there?
I love to see as many movies as I can in a theater, but films are generally projected so dark and the frame is rarely as wide (or as tall) as it should be. For instance, I thought the aspect ratio for There Will Be Blood was 1.85:1 when I saw it at the Sunrise Intracoastal cinema.
Can I get a refund for this? I think I should.

The Friends of Gusman Board of Directors was very proud to host both Steven Bauer and Angel Salazar at this 25th Anniversary screening of Scarface!
The Gusman Theater was built in 1926 as a silent movie palace and is now a beacon in the South Florida's arts community. The Theater is home to many cultural events throughout the year. Events such as this are crucial for fundraising to help
restore and maintain this treasure in our community.
