Pirate sequels and zombie prequels

Captain20jack20sparrow_2 Johnny Depp has signed on to play Capt. Jack Sparrow in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film. The plot is being kept under tight wraps, but it apparently deals with Sparrow's search for someone - anyone - who can explain the plot of the last two Pirates movies to him.

Variety reports Depp has also agreed to play Tonto in a big-screen version of The Lone Ranger, as well as portray the Mad Hatter in a Tim Burton 3-D redo of Alice in Wonderland.

I_am_legend_will_smith__1__2 Meanwhile, Will Smith and director Francis Lawrence will reunite for a prequel to the smash hit I Am Legend, which was the third screen version of Richard Matheson's novel and grossed $584 million worldwide. A prequel was the only way to milk more money out of that cash cow, since the film's conclusion made a sequel kinda difficult.

It's a good thing the writers' strike is over. It takes a lot of scribes to recycle this many old TV shows and movies.

I Am Legend prequel? How unecessary can something be.

And Pirates 4. Hmmm. If they can bring it back to the spirit of the FIRST one, then it shoul dbe good. If they dare go for another cluster fuck of those sequels (especially that incomprehensible 3rd one. I still haven't figured out WHAT was going on there), then they can keep it.

Burton takes on Carroll! Finally!
