Opening today

Here's a link to my interview with the director and screenwriters of (500) Days of Summer, which ran in today's Weekend section. One of the things you miss out on when you only read stories online is the fantastic work by the graphic designers who lay out the pages. Look how great these pages look, which were designed by Jessalyn Santos.

Also opening today are Funny People, Shrink and O'Horten. Kathryn Bigelow's suspenseful Iraq war drama The Hurt Locker expands to more theaters, so now you don't have an excuse for not seeing it.

The documentary Outrage is back at the Cosford Cinema, while Steven Soderbergh's The Girlfriend Experience returns to the Miami Beach Cinematheque.

Miami-Dade College has quietly started programming eclectic slates of movies at the Tower Theater in Little Havana. You can check out this week's schedule here, which includes the Italian drama Quiet Chaos, the documentary Dream Havana, the Cuban drama Fruits in Your Coffee, and Pixar's Up.

With the Cosford Cinema and the Miami Beach Cinematheque going strong, and the opening of a new arthouse in Coral Gables scheduled for this fall, Miami's art film scene is going through a nice little renaissance.
