Variety reports that director David Fincher has begun putting together the cast for The Social Network, his film about the creation of Facebook based on a screenplay by The West Wing's Aaron Sorkin.
Zombieland's Jesse Eisenberg will play Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Justin Timberlake will play Sean Parker (the former Napster honcho who became Facebook's founding president) and Andrew Garfield will play Eduardo Saverin, the other Facebook founder who left the enterprise over a money dispute.
If it was anyone other than Fincher directing, The Social Network would smack me as the kind of movie that should be airing on HBO. But after what Fincher did with newspaper reporting and research in Zodiac, I can't wait to see his take on the creation of the most popular online social network ever.
The casting of Eisenberg has a tiny bit of irony, since the actor scores a nice zinger at Facebook's expense in Zombieland. "You know what the best perk about [living in] Zombieland is: No Facebook status updates!"

The Aaron Sorkin script would get me to the theater, if nothing else.
