I'm about to sit down to watch the new Blu-ray of Jean-Luc Godard's Contempt, which I am thrilled got the high-def treatment.
Here are some other movies I wish the studios would put out on Blu-ray immediately, although I know it's going to be a while until some of these come out, if ever. I left out the movies that are coming out later this year, like the Alien films.
I couldn't find a good image of the original poster, but I prefer the theatrical cut over the "Redux" version.
Yeah, I know, I know. But it's still awesome.
Duh. Come on, Warner Bros. Bring it!
Give the people what they want, Lucas.

How does "Contempt" look? I'm angry Criterion lost the rights to it.
Did you see all the Criterions going out of print in March? Once they're gone, the prices will probably be jacked up on eBay.

Wow, "1941," huh? I thought I was the only one who dug that movie. Even though it's sweaty, loud and breaks the first commandment of comedy (Thou Shalt Be Funny), I still find it endlessly fascinating to watch. The technical virtuosity on display is still dazzling 30 years later. And how can you not love a film that manages to work in Christopher Lee, Toshiro Mifune and Slim Pickens in the same scene?

@Steve: I know what you mean, re "1941." It's not funny at all, yet I still love it. The USO dance hall fight sequence remains one of my favorite setpieces of any Spielberg film. And the DVD looks like utter crap. I'd love to see a new high-def transfer of that movie, but I'm not holding my breath.

@Adrian: "Contempt" looks fantastic on Blu-ray - the colors in that movie are outrageous - although the Criterion DVD was already pretty great, and it had better extras.
I did see that list of all those OOP titles. Studio Canal is coming on strong with their new U.S. distribution deal via Lionsgate. They also sent me the Blu-ray of "Ran" which Criterion was forced to cancel at the last minute, but I haven't watched that one yet.
