R.I.P. Corey Haim

The sad news about actor Corey Haim, who was found dead this morning of an apparent drug overdose, won't be much of a surprise to anyone who caught an episode of the reality TV series The Two Coreys, in which Haim's struggle with addiction was the focus of much of the drama.

Although Haim, like his co-star Corey Feldman, will never be remembered as a great actor, he appeared in enough movies in the 1980s (The Lost Boys, License to Drive, Dream a Little Dream) to make his passing particularly melancholy for anyone who grew up in that decade.

Coming just a few months after the deaths of Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, John Hughes and Patrick Swayze, the news about Haim feel like another reminder to Generation Xers, who once ruled popular culture, that our mortality has caught up with us - and is knocking at the door, loudly.
