The first piece of Disney World’s Fantasyland expansion opened quietly and unofficially this week, giving guests a chance to ride the Great Goofini, a rethemed roller coaster previously known as Goofy's Barnstormer, and Flying Dumbo, which was moved to an area called Storybook Circus.
Across town, Hollywood Drive-In Golf opened at Universal CityWalk — just days after a technologically upgraded Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man opened at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.
The openings are among the first of a slew of rides and attractions that will be launched at Central Florida’s theme parks this year.
The Fantasyland rides were part of a “soft opening,” which means they’re not officially open yet, may not be open at any given time and may be tweaked.
They are expecting to have a grand opening around the end of the month, The rest of the Fantasyland expansion will continue opening in phases between now and early 2014.
Universal’s Hollywood Drive-In Golf features two 18-hole courses based on classic drive-in era horror and sci-fi movies. Shown here are Men In Black agents and Frank the Pug playing "Invaders from Planet Putt" —a course themed after the "little green men" science fiction films of the 1950s.
