Road trip: Hunting for distelfinks

When artist/writer Sue Kovach Shuman set out on a road trip in southeastern Pennsylvania, she was looking for something a little bit different: distelfinks, a very particular kind of hex sign that German immigrants sometimes painted on their barns. A distelfink is a goldfinch and the hex sign it is painted on represents good luck, tranquility and smooth sailing. Read her account of her distelfink hunt here.
