Sergio Bustos - State/Politics Editor

Sergio Bustos oversees the Herald's coverage of Florida and politics. Born in Chile, he was raised in northern Virginia. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, he did post-graduate work at the University of Southern California as an International Journalism program fellow. He has worked at newspapers, large and small. He joined the Herald as an editor in 2005 after spending six years as a Washington correspondent for the Arizona Republic/Gannett News Service. He's also worked for the Staunton, Va., Daily News Leader, the Wilmington, Del., News Journal and The Philadelphia Inquirer. He has appeared on MSNBC, CNN, NPR, Al Jazeera America and the BBC. Patricia Mazzei - Political Writer

Patricia Mazzei is the political writer for the Miami Herald. She joined the newspaper in 2007 after graduating from the University of Miami. Her previous beats include congressional and state legislative politics, Miami-Dade County Hall, Miami City Hall and Broward County public schools. Mary Ellen Klas - Tallahassee Bureau Chief

Mary Ellen Klas is Capital Bureau Chief for The Miami Herald and a co-bureau chief of the paper’s merged bureau with the Tampa Bay Times. She is a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and a graduate of the University of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn. Before she became bureau chief for the Herald in 2004, Mary Ellen was Tallahassee bureau chief for Florida Trend magazine and also served as a senior writer for the Palm Beach Post. She was bureau chief for the Palm Beach Post from 1990-94, after which she worked part-time for 10 years while her daughters were young. She is married to John Kennedy, who is also a veteran Tallahassee reporter, now as senior writer for the Palm Beach Post’s Tallahassee bureau. They have two daughters. Kathleen McGrory - State Government Reporter

Kathleen McGrory is a state government reporter based out of The Herald/Times bureau in Tallahassee. She has been at The Miami Herald since 2006. Her previous beats include the Miami-Dade County school district and Miami City Hall. Amy Sherman - Broward County Government Reporter

Amy Sherman covers Broward County government. She was born in Amherst, MA. and moved to Minnesota to attend college at Macalester in St. Paul. She worked for the St. Paul Pioneer Press before moving to Florida in 2004 and joining The Miami Herald.

Chris Adams - McClatchy Washington Bureau reporter

Chris Adams is a reporter for the McClatchy Washington Bureau, focusing on the environment, agriculture and Florida issues.

He joined the bureau's investigative team in 2003, and previously worked for The Wall Street Journal and The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune.

In 2010, he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize (with colleagues Greg Gordon and Kevin Hall) for detailing the double-dealing and lack of oversight that contributed to the nation's financial meltdown. He also was a Pulitzer finalist in 1996 and 1999, and in 2000 was part of a six-person Journal team that won the Pulitzer for coverage of military spending issues.

His previous work for the Washington Bureau won several awards, including the National Press Club award for best Washington reporting, the NIHCM Foundation Annual Health Care Journalism Award, the Scripps Howard Foundation National Journalism Award for best Washington reporting, the Society of Professional Journalists Award for best Washington reporting, a Heywood Broun Award, the Gerald Loeb Award for outstanding business reporting, and the National Headliner Award. Before joining the bureau, his reporting won the George Polk, Robert F. Kennedy, Worth Bingham, Clark Mollenhoff, Investigative Reporters & Editors, and Livingston awards.

He also teaches journalism at American University and at Northwestern University's Washington program.
