DOLPHINS: OJ Atogwe Update

As Armando pointed out in his blog, the Dolphins are among several teams who would have an interest if O.J. Atogwe hit the market.

It seems like this is coming down to the wire.

Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network (who gets props for quoting Wu Tang on his Twitter), has this update on Atogwe.

The St. Louis Rams and safety Oshiomogho Atogwe continue to work on a contract for the restricted free agent, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

The Rams are still trying to sign Atogwe to a long-term deal, and risk losing him after he didn't sign his restricted tender offer. The team maintained discussions with his representatives through the Memorial Day weekend, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, with one source calling the talks "positive," but adding, "what (Tuesday) holds is unknown."

Tuesday is decision day in this instance. If the sides don't reach a multi-year deal, then they have until midnight on June 1 to decide whether or not to place a high tender on Atogwe to keep him; otherwise he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

The Rams have yet to make that decision, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, though other executives don't anticipate St. Louis putting a high tender on Atogwe, which would require a one-year, fully-guaranteed $7-million contract.

Due to their dire situation at FS, the Dolphins are keeping a close eye on what develops in St. Louis.

Other teams that are monitoring the Atogwe situation are the Cowboys, Jaguars, Eagles, Niners and Bears.

All this Otogwe stuff has the message boards like Fin Heaven buzzing.

In the morning, we'll have a much better idea what Otogwe's future will be and what his chances of becoming a Miami Dolphin are.

So, tune in tomorrow morning and see what has developed.

Wade Recruiting LeBron & Beasley to Toronto?

Dwyane Wade was quoted in the Chicago Tribune about the possibilities of joining his hometown squad along with, the future of this summer's top tier NBA free agents.

And, if you're scoring at home Miami 1, Chicago 0.

"I think the biggest question that you think about has to be loyalty," said Wade, a Richards grad who added he has been a Bulls fan for a long time. "I know one thing about Miami: It is a very loyal organization. I see what they do with their players when their players get done with the game of basketball … how loyal they are. I don't know about the Bulls."

Wade said it appears to him that the Bulls don't measure up to the Heat in the loyalty department.

"I see Michael Jordan is not there, Scottie Pippen is not there. … You know, these guys are not a part," Wade said. "Things like that. So that is probably one of the biggest things for me, because I am a very loyal person."

That sound you hear is HEAT fans exhaling in unison.

Wade continued on the offensive as he seemed to put his recruiting hat on.

Wade said he's not sure when the top free agents will discuss their respective plans, though they have spoken informally in the past.

"(Free agency) has been three years coming," Wade said. "We've discussed it prematurely, at different times. (But) you don't know what guys are thinking and where they're going. I think we'll all sit down, and before one of us makes a decision, all of us will have spoken to each other and (listened to the) thinking.

"A lot of decisions (will be based on) what other players are willing to do and what other guys want to do. So it's not just a 'me' situation here. We all have to look and see what each other is thinking."

Wade said he wouldn't have a problem playing alongside another great player.

"I understand that you have to have a great team, a great supporting cast around you. That's all I want," he said. "My ego is not that big. … I just want to win."

That sounds like a message to his buddy LeBron James. It seems everyone is already banking on the fact that LBJ will end up in, "The Second City."

Meanwhile, Wade seems to be on a mission to deter him from those plans and could be best suited to do so.

Wade also plans on making inroads with the likes of Chris Bosh and Joe Johnson

This morning, (on the Jorge Sedano Show on 790 The Ticket) I had on Chris Mannix. Mannix covers the NBA for Sports Illustrated and he agrees that Wade is putting on the Full Court Press. (click on link below for 90 second clip)

CHRIS MANNIX W SEDANO - WADE AS RECRUITER - 5-27-10

Now, Mannix seems to think that Wade's attempts will be ill-fated, but will certainly aid Miami in landing a top tier free agent.

Mannix did have an interesting twist to the Michael Beasley saga. He feels that all the talk about trading Beasley for cap space may be premature and that he will likely be used in a sign and trade that could land Chris Bosh. (click on link below for 68 second clip)

CHRIS MANNIX W SEDANO - BEASLEY AS TRADE PIECE

Mannix added that the Heat has the most attractive piece in a sign and trade scenario. He feels the Lakers-Toronto swap (Bynum for Bosh) is a pipe dream. He has spoken to both sides and doesn't feel that will ever come to fruition, because the Lakers are not willing to part with Bynum.

Then, there are the Chicago sign and trade possibilities. Here are his thoughts on that subject.

(click on link below for 37 second clip)

CHRIS MANNIX W SEDANO - BEASLEY AS TRADE PIECE 2

So, it seems that there is more of a broad spectrum of possibilities this off season for Miami than what we've been led to believe.

Which means Pat Riley is licking his chops as we speak.

HEAT: Michael Beasley could be dealt during the draft

ESPN's Chris Sheridan joined "The Jorge Sedano Show" on 790 The Ticket  this morning to discuss the NBA.

When the topic was about Michael Beasley's future with the Miami Heat, Sheridan said, "that he believes Bealsey will be traded on draft day."

You can listen to the audio clip by clicking below.

CHRIS SHERIDAN W SEDANO - BEASLEY WILL BE TRADED AT DRAFT - 5-26-10

I agree with Sheridan and think it's obvious Beasley's future is not here in Miami. His game doesn't seem to mesh well with Dwyane Wade and the benching in Game 5 of the Boston series speaks volumes.

At this point, getting cap space in a year like this could prove to be a much better option for the HEAT.

With all the holes this team has and some viable options out there via free agency or trade, it's best to move on.

No need to continue to try to fit the square peg in the round hole.

VIDEO: Zach Thomas Retires a Dolphin

The Dolphins did the right thing here.

They made up for their callous treatment of Zach the first time around (by not letting him hold a presser).

I know many will argue what he means to this organization. I for one, feel his name should go up in the Ring of Honor and his number should be retired.

I would make the case, he's the most liked Dolphin since Marino.

If I had a HOF vote I'd lobby for him as well. He may not have the rings, but has the credentials, in my opinion.

5× First-Team All-Pro selection (1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2006)

2× Second-Team All-Pro selection (2001, 2005)

7× Pro Bowl selection (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006)

NFL 2000s All-Decade Team

Armando asked what the favorite Zach moment was in his blog. I'll just respond with the hit on Shawn Jefferson in his first game. It made an impression I'll never forget.

Zach,

You are a true professional, and I wish you the best of luck. Thanks for all the memories and for giving us something to cheer about on Sundays.

Bill Parcells better not make Drew Rosenhaus mad

Saw this on ESPN this afternoon.

This is more smoke & mirrors than anything else. If you break the first one the others will break. Though, the fire is nice window dressing.

Still impressive for Drew and "The Tuna," better watch his back.

I wonder if this will land Drew a few more clients??

At least, you know he can use more than just the power of negotiation.
