NBA to release primetime schedule

The NBA will unveil its schedule for the opening week of the season and Christmas Day on Tuesday.

NBATV officials said Friday their network will host a program at 7 p.m., at which time it will unveil the games for "Tip-off '10," plus the Christmas and Martin Luther King Jr. holidays.

Christmas Day is the showcase for the League, so chances are the NBA will be "taking its talents to South Beach" with the Heat's, "Three Kings" of Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in one of the five games.

Details about the rest of the schedule, will be released August 10.

VIDEO: Stay Classy Cleveland...

I saw this video on Sports By Brooks this afternoon. The video involved a fan who showed up to an Indians game in a #6 Heat LeBron Jersey.

A reader to sportsbybrooks.com was at the game and sent in this account to the website of what happened:

A guy walked into the bleacher seats wearing a LeBron James Miami Heat Jersey. He was booed violently, and by the fifth Inning, people were throwing peanuts and beer cups at him.

That’s when police escorted him out of the section. While walking down the stairs, a guy knocked the beer cup out of his hand, and started swearing at him. By the end of the row, a fat guy in a green shirt (who was previously flicking him off), got up in his face. The police had to restrain him from attacking the Yankees & Indians fans who were booing him.

His girlfriend, who had been flicking people off and swearing was shoved to the ground by a guy in a grey shirt. She started crying, and also had to be restrained.

The police officers who escorted him out, got a standing ovation from the entire bleacher section.

Now, is it smart to where that jersey in the aftermath of what just went down?

I would probably say no to that.

There's a strong possibility that there was some, "not so friendly banter," going on.

In my opinion, there's never a reason for violence. Especially, when it's violence against a woman.

I don't care if she's flicking you off.

In this second video at 0:41, if you look closely, in the bottom left corner, you can see his girlfriend get knocked over.

As soon as she gets knocked over the camera operator (on a camera phone), flips the screen for some reason. So, bear with the flip of the angle (you may just want to pause it and tilt your head).

This is the senseless stuff that simply makes you just shake your head.

I can't even imagine how that Miami-Ohio St. game is going to be?

Maybe, this t-shirt that you can purchase at allCanes.com can paint the picture.

I'd where body armor under the shirt...

Dirk Nowitzki defends the Heat

I know this sounds strange, but here's an translation of an interview he did with the German magazine Crossover-Online.de.

Dirk Nowitzki has never been one to listen to the critics, and he isn’t planning to start now. While everyone is off bashing the Miami Heat, he doesn't mind coming out on record and saying he is impressed with the team that they have put together. So much so, in fact, that he would have seriously considered joining them had an offer been extended by Dwyane Wade and the Heat.

“It would already have to be an unbelievable situation to go somewhere, for instance with LeBron or Wade just to play in Miami,” Dirk said. “I would only be changed if it was an incredible situation that would have been offered. (Had LeBron and Wade asked), that would have been a situation where I would have to consider.”

Who would've thought the Heat's nemesis, in it's only Finals appearance would take up for them?

Imagine how David Hasselhoff feels?????

Akron still has love for LeBron

Courtesy of the Akron Beacon Journal:

Akron residents may not be ready to forgive LeBron James for going to Miami, but city council has.

Council unanimously passed a resolution Monday night thanking James for ''his extraordinary basketball accomplishments and his continuing involvement in the Akron community.''

Council President Marco Sommerville said he thought the gesture was important because some have the impression that Akron no longer supports James.

''No matter what his decision was, he's still from Akron, Ohio,'' he said. ''He's a hometown person who we need to support.''

Sommerville said he was disturbed by a recent Akron Aeros promotion that offered free tickets in exchange for gently used James apparel and spoke to the team's marketing representative about his concern.

''Hopefully, he will continue to do things for Akron as he continues on his quest to be great,'' he said.

Some members of council, which had a lengthy agenda Monday that included several controversial items, were somewhat leery of the resolution — knowing that many in the community are still bruised by James' decision.

Three members of the LeBron James Grandmothers Fan Club, wearing their burgundy shirts with gold crowns on them, spoke in support of the resolution.

''He's still our grandson,'' said Edna Martin, who thinks James has been a good role model.

The resolution detailed James' professional accomplishments at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron and with the Cleveland Cavaliers and his contributions to the city, including the King for Kids Bikeathon, the LeBron James Skills Academy and the LeBron James Shooting Stars Classic.

Akron is in talks with the LeBron James Family Foundation about this year's bikeathon, which is scheduled for Aug. 7.

Deputy Mayor Dave Lieberth said James will — as has been the tradition — hand out 300 free bikes to local youths, who will then take them for a one-mile spin. Lieberth said other details of the event still are being decided.

A copy of council's resolution will be sent to James at his home in Bath Township.

When council voted on the resolution, a man in the audience yelled out, ''Nay!''

Raptors GM takes swipe at Bosh

After Cavs owner Dan Gilbert went on his tirade a few weeks back, it seemed as if Toronto would stay above the fray.

In this mornings' edition of the Toronto Sun, we see that's not the case.

Raptors president/general manager Bryan Colangelo chose his words carefully during a Monday interview with the FAN 590’s Bob McCown, but clearly is not pleased with the way things turned out with Bosh.

Colangelo intoned that Bosh took a long time to return from injury even though he had been medically cleared and that he started thinking ahead to his future to the detriment of the Raptors.

“Despite limited swelling and any excessive damage on an MRI, he felt like he needed to sit for six more games ... I’m not even questioning Chris’ injury. I’m telling you he was cleared to play subject to tolerance on his part, and the tolerance just apparently wasn’t there and he chose not to play,” Colangelo said.

“The fact that our season was spiralling downward and we were hoping he’d come back sooner and we were also dealing with a few other things at that point ... we were really struggling there.”

Colangelo went on to elaborate:

“Whether he was mentally checked out or just wasn’t quite into it down the stretch, he wasn’t the same guy. I think everybody saw that, but no one wanted to acknowledge it.”

“At the same time, I never felt we were quite in the game (in terms of signing Bosh to a new contract). There was too much out there, too much built up for him to take an easy out here, and he decided to do that.”

Colangelo also said Bosh was hard to build around.

“We tried in vain to put pieces around Chris. Different pieces, different styles. It didn’t work out.”

“No matter what type of player we brought in, it didn’t seem to have the right mix with him as that centrepiece.”

Colangelo was a guest on my show before the trade deadline. At the time he told us he was open to a sign and trade if that's what it came down to.

The fact that he took the time to bash Bosh (for his toughness/desire) now is silly. He should have traded him when he had the chance.

When I hosted the Heat's pre & post game shows on radio, I used to say, "chalk one up for the good guys," during the victory.

I think these days everyone should embrace this mantra...

CHALK ONE UP FOR THE BAD GUYS!

Heat contact Marbury?

Well, at least according to him...

Marbury

From Xinhua News:

Stephon Marbury said Friday he is still looking for a chance to play in China again though the Miami Heat showed interests in signing the point guard.

The fomer NBA All-Star guard said the Heat contacted him through the player association of the NBA before LeBron James announced he would join in Miami on a live televesion show.

"I'll wait and see what'll happen," Marbury said during an interview with local media at the tom.com.

"They (the Heat) wanted a point guard. But I don't think a point guard would do much in the team as they've already had the Three Guys (Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh)."

Marbury told the Chinese media that "there's a 90 percent chance" he'll play next season in China if he doesn't return to the NBA.

Marbury, 33, last played in the NBA for the Boston Celtics in 2008-09, but turned down an offer to re-sign for the veterans' minimum last year. The Heat could only sign Marbury for the minimum.

Marbury signed with the Shanxi Zhongyu Brave Dragons in January, averaging about 23 points and 10 assists.

I doubt if the Heat really contacted Starbury about playing for them.

For all we know, he could have ingested some Vaseline and misconstrued what the conversation was about.

Wolves GM: Beasley 'Smoked Too Much Marijuana' in Miami

Minnesota Timberwolves General Manager David Kahn doesn't come across as the type of guy, who's fit to be a GM.

This is the same guy who drafted multiple point guards in the lottery?

He's running the triangle offense, without many of the type of players necessary for that style of offense?

Let's not forget he signed Darko Milicic to a 20 million dollar deal.

In an interview with ESPN Radio in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Kahn explained that Michael Beasley, who he traded for earlier this month, struggled in here in Miami because he "smoked too much marijuana" while playing for the Heat, but has since quit.

7-22 David Kahn-Michael Beasley

Here's one more Kahn gem for your enjoyment. A run in he had with NBA TV's Chris Webber, regarding the Darko signing.

You'll get a chuckle out of it... trust me.

Magic Johnson's hypocrisy regarding LeBron

Anyone who listens to my show knows that Sports By Brooks is my favorite blog. Brooks does a great job of mixing in humor and information. He's also a former main stream media guy. So, he gets the protocol.

I'm sure many of you have taken notice that NBA Legends, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson have been critical of LeBron's choice to join the Heat.

On my radio show, I've been very critical of all those former players. They seem to be trying their best to protect their legacies.

Though, they seem to forget that as they came into the league, they all had easier situations than LeBron. All of them except Jordan, played with Hall of Fame talent right out of the gate.

Today, SportsByBrooks.com has a story that reveals to us, that Magic Johnson continues to have selective memory.

(Via: SportsByBrooks.com)

From Mike Downey of the L.A. Times, circa ‘91:

Magic Johnson would have returned to Michigan State rather than play for the Chicago Bulls.

“I’d have stayed in school,” he said here Tuesday, standing alone outside Gate 3 1/2 of Chicago Stadium, the house that could have been his. “A coin toss changed the course of my whole life.”

Chicago called heads in a 1979 coin flip with Los Angeles for the No. 1 pick in the NBA college draft. It came up tails.

Johnson signed with the Lakers after his sophomore year of college and proceeded to win five championships. The Bulls picked second, took UCLA’s David Greenwood and have won no championships.

“I wouldn’t have played here,” Johnson said on the eve of Game 2 of the NBA finals between his team and the team that could have been his. “The only reason I came out was to play with Kareem and the Lakers.

I try to go out of my way to commend good work.

So, kudos to Brooks of Sports By Brooks.

It's one of the best daily reads on the net.

Rapper Flo Rida Miami Heat Anthem

I don't like to put the cart before the horse, but the entertainment community has done it for us.

I heard this was performed at the Summer Groove (Zo & Wade Charity Event).
