If you didn't get to say goodbye to Beasley

I know there are many people out there who are still fans of his.

I liked the kid personally. I just felt after the first season that he wasn't going to fit.

He'll get a fresh start in Minnesota and get a chance to make mistakes.

HEAT: This was bound to happen at some point.

This is laughable.

Penny was very nice to me in his brief stint here, but if he makes that call he may get a dose of reality.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, during an internet radio show, Penny Hardaway said he wants to play for the Miami Heat.

"Mentally I was retired and physically I was retired. I was playing recreational ball," Hardaway said. "But when the decision happened with Chris Bosh and LeBron James, I felt like I could really be good in that system.

"I can understand where Michael Jordan was coming from coming out of retirement a couple times, I can understand where Brett Favre is right now," Hardaway added. "When you still have something in the tank it's really hard to let it go."

Hardaway, who had various knee injuries, played for Miami in 2007. He has yet to contact Heat president Pat Riley.

Great LeBron, Wade, Bosh NWO video. Best one yet.

This is pretty funny. I joked about this the day of, "THE DECISION."

I never thought this stuff would take off.

This is the best one I've seen so far.

Mike Miller tweets his deal is done

Mike Miller is now a member of the Miami Heat according to his Twitter account.

@m33m It's official! Thanks to the Miami Heat Organization, Mr. Arison, Pat Riley, the fans and the players that made this happen!

Now, you can expect the Ilgaiskas deal to become official next.

The Juwan Howard deal to follow soon after
that.

I'd write more, but I'm typing this on my iPhone.

A more thorough recap will be up soon.

My own Steinbrenner story

I have a mildly interesting George Steinbrenner story.

I was a young reporter/talk show host at another radio station and was on my way to cover Game 6 of the 2003 World Series versus the Marlins.

I had an awful delay in my flight because a gentleman had a medical emergency, and we had to make an emergency landing in Orlando. My flight was delayed over 2 hours, and I was worried if I was even going to make the game.

Now, I didn't have any of my credentials with me. So, I had to call my buddy Evan Cohen to grab a credential for me and meet me at the gate with it. A lot of hurdles to conquer, and I wasn't out of the state of Florida yet.

I eventually, made it to New York with about 90 minutes until game time. My brother (who lived in Jersey at the time) thankfully, got me to the stadium with about 45 minutes to spare.

Once I arrived, I had no time to drop off my luggage at the hotel. So, I brought it with me to the game. When I arrived at the press gate I explained my situation to the two security guards who were checking bags.

Now, remember this was only two years after 9/11. So, security was extremely tight.

The one security guard looks at the other and said, " you take the work bag, and I'll take the drawers."

They obviously, were okay with it and were having some fun at my expense. I couldn't help but burst out laughing after the day I had.

So, I make it through security, meet my buddies Evan and Vladamir (Louissaint) and walk through the tunnel. I end up coming out through the visiting teams' dugout, on to the field right behind the live shot of Fox Sports TV pre game show (needless to say my cell phone went off a few times).

That was a bit embarrassing, but I trucked along and made it to the media room to drop off my work bag and luggage (drawers).

Finally, off to my seat or so I thought. The three of us head to the elevator to head up to our seats and the elevator conductor tells us he'll need us to take a ride with him before we can get to our floor.

I was thinking to myself, "great this day will never end."

So, the elevator heads down a few floors and the doors open.

(Before, I continue, I have to mention that I'm a life long Yankee fan. My dad raised me a Yankee fan. Mr. Steinbrenner was similar to my dad in many ways. My old man demanded a lot and expected results. As a kid I called my pops, "Jorge Steinbrenner").

When the door opened out came George Steinbrenner. He looked over at us and nodded his head in general like fashion. He then turned around and faced the door.

The three of us (in our early 20's) were looking at each other like we were in an episode of Seinfeld.

He was muttering orders at his subordinates, and they were all nodding in agreement and saying things like,

"Yes Mr. Steinbrenner."

"Of course Mr. Steinbrenner."

"Yes sir BOSS."

Then the elevator door opened and they all walked out.

I looked around at my buddies and wondered aloud if that had really happened?

I've had a ton of cool and fun moments in my 11 year career covering sports. That one still ranks pretty high.

There was also a time a few years later when I was working as the overnight national host on Fox Sports Radio. I was on 2am-6am ET.

My show was syndicated all across the country. One of the cities I was I was pretty popular in was Tampa.

Tampa was the home of George Steinbrenner.

One day, my boss calls me and leaves me a message to call him immediately.

So, I thought I was going to get fired for something I said. I was racking my head over what I could have possibly said?

When I called my boss, he said, "you're never going to believe this."

It turns out that I was having a discussion about the Yankees the night before and was just going off about them. It was this crazy impassioned speech about everything in the organization, from top to bottom.

It was me on my soap box.

I was just yelling about how much I loved the team. How much it drove me nuts when they lost the year before to Boston up 3 - 0. How sick it made me feel and so on and so forth.

This is how the conversation between my boss and the Yankees proceeded.

"I got this call from the Yankees, and they asked me if you worked here?"

"I told them, yes."

Then the gentleman on the other line had this to say to my program director,

"Is there anyway we can get a copy of that? You know THE BOSS wants to have a copy."

My program director responded.

"You mean like your superior?"

To which the Yankee's employee responded.

"Yes, you know THE BOSS wants to listen to it, Mr. Steinbrenner. He enjoyed the show and wants a copy of Mr. Sedano's comments."

Hope you're still listening to it upstairs BOSS.

R.I.P.

Mike Miller deal to Heat done?

Arn Tellem (Mike Miller's Agent) tells us his client inks the deal in his blog.

Meet the Heat

Ringo Starr just hit the Big Seven-Oh. We loved him when he was 24, we loved him when he was 34, we even loved him when he was 64. And we still love his Beatles, though the band really wasn't around too long. The memory of the Fab Four remains bright four decades after Ringo last jammed with John, Paul and George.

One of my earliest basketball clients, B.J. Armstrong, was the Ringo of his era. B.J. helped make the Chicago Bulls fab during the early 1990s. He was the point guard who kept the back beat, if not the backcourt beat. Of course, he got by with a little help from his friends: Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant. Together, the quartet won three NBA titles -- and you know they don't come easy. B.J. is still one of the most beloved figures in NBA history: like Ringo, the embodiment of good cheer and the joy of performing.

Today, another client of mine, Mike Miller, announces his intention to sign a five year free-agent contract with the Miami Heat. Mike welcomes the chance to be the Ringo in a hot combo that already includes LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. Providentially, this week the original Ringo and his All Starr Band have a gig just up I-95 in Hollywood, Florida.

For the last week, Mike's future has hinged on LeBron's. We talked to the Bulls, the New York Knicks, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Clippers. The Knicks showed tremendous interest: Coach Mike D'Antoni is clearly crazy about Mike's ability. Had the Cavaliers kept LeBron, Mike would have been a great fit for them, too. And, yes, the Clippers were a credible option. But LeBron was always the elephant in the room, just as Mike is now the octopus in the garden (so to speak).

With all the aces played in the free-agency deck, the Heat needed to fill out its hand with someone who could hold the insanely-talented vortex together. The Heat needed a Ringo, a shooting guard who would maintain the tempo and never miss a beat. Mike is that guy.

Over the past four seasons, he topped all starting shooting guards and small forwards in True Shooting percentage (.604). He also had the second-highest 3-point percentage (.418) and the fourth best field-goal percentage (.483). At 6'8", Mike is one of the purest shooters and most versatile players in the league.

On the night free-agency kicked in, Mike and I hung out in a room at the Beverly Wilshire with Pat Riley, Alonzo Mourning and others in the Miami brain trust. We held our own with them until 2:30 in the morning, and I can assure you that the moments were never dull. Enthusiasm is contagious, and Coach Riley a carrier. Had he not become coach of the Heat, he could have made millions by opening a chain of tanning salons in the Sunshine State. He's that good.

Pat had a vision for the team, a vision that he laid out with evangelical fervor. We left the room converted.

In the elevator, Mike told me that if the Pat could pull off a James-Wade-Bosh trifecta, he'd be South Florida-bound. Well, The Heat is on, so, Mike Miller, Welcome to Miami.

Confirmed Riley/Arison Meet with Fisher (Audio)

After a TMZ report that Pat Riley and Heat owner Mickey Arison were meeting with Derek Fisher, I chose to take a second and see for myself if that, in fact, was happening.

I did spot them at the Mandarin Oriental in Downtown Miami.

I approached Fisher for comment after the three parted ways in the lobby, and he respectfully declined comment. I then approached Riley & Arison and they as well reverentially declined comment.

Here's audio of the encounter.

Sedano - Fisher & Riley

Below is a blurry picture of the encounter in the lobby.

(Hotel crew was not big on pictures & shooed me away)

On the left in the blue shirt is Mickey Arison, Pat Riley in the white shirt in the middle and Derek Fisher on the right in a gray suit. A Fisher confidant is on the foreground in a white dress shirt.
