Mike Miller joined us on the Jorge Sedano Show on 790 The Ticket this morning. He chatted with us on a number of subjects including, his play/shot selection, Udonis Haslem's timetable, the Knicks struggles and his Gators.
When asked if he's comfortable taking the type of shots he's taking (spot up as opposed to coming off screens) he responded, "Coming off screens is more of a rhythm thing. My role is not the same as it's been in the past and I knew that before I signed up here. It's going to mostly catch & shoot stuff and they're going to be shots (available) sporadically. It's nothing like I've done in the past, but it's what I signed up for and I got to go out there and do my job."
Miller on taking less shots than he's accustomed to:
"It's tough. Obviously, it's tough, but at the same time there's only so many shots in the game. You're only going to score so many points in the game. Here we've got two of the top 5 scorers in the league and a third guy averging almost 20 points a game there's 70 points a game. You're only going to get some many points, shots and that's just the way the game of basketball is. Obviously, when you're out there for your 14-20 minutes you have to be aggressive. That hasn't been my nature in the past. So, it's been a little difficult and at teh same time it's noty an excuse and it's not a crutch. You go out ther and you know what you signed up for and as long as we're winning games I'm happy."
Miller on making sure Udonis comes back when he's phsyically ready:
"I've actually talked to him a couple of times about it and the problem with me, is that he looks at me like I'm crazy because, I've done the same thing. He'll do the smart thing and he'll talk to the doctors and (find out) if there's any way of making it worse and hinder (his) career in the future? If the answer is just pain tolerance, you're going to see Udonis Haslem back. Because he's not going to worry about how much it hurts."
Miller on the expectations for Haslem:
"I think he brings a lot. Not only a voice (because of the respect level), but he's going to bring Udonis Haslem. Anyone, who has seen him for the last 8 years realizes what he brings. He brings defensive toughness. You can put him on anyone on the floor and he's going to do his job. He's going to take charges and do a lo tof the little things. The stuff that the rest of us need to do anyways. He's also going to give those guys an option on the pick & roll, because he'll make plays out of that and make jumpers out of that. And, ofcourse he do whatever it takes to rebound the basketball. He'll bringa lot to the table and I don't think you'll see anything different when he comes back."
