Florida International University’s Pino Global Entrepreneurship Center will host its fourth annual Americas Venture Capital Conference (AVCC) on Dec. 11 and 12 in Miami. This year’s theme will be the hot topic of “Healthcare Innovation and Venture Capital.”
The conference will spotlight new ventures and opportunities in the healthcare sector, from products and processes to service delivery and new business models, said Jerry Haar, FIU associate dean and director of the Pino Center, housed at the College of Business. As in other years, two dozen companies will be selected to present at the conference.
Calling Miguel B. ‘Mike’ Fernandez a visionary in the world of healthcare, Haar also announced that Fernandez, the chairman of MBF Healthcare Partners, will co-chair the 2013 conference. MBF Healthcare Partners is a Coral Gables-based private equity firm with committed capital in excess of $500 million that focuses on healthcare service companies nationwide.
The conference will include keynote speeches and interactive sessions on mobile health, big data, health supply chain management and other topics, a “shark tank” and plenty of time for networking and deal-making, Haar said.
