Startup World is an initiative to promote startups, entrepreneurship and technology through a global competition to find the world’s most innovative startups. Miami and 35 other cities around the world selected as emerging tech hubs are holding regional pitching competitions, with 10 entrepreneurs pitching to a panel of judges in each city.
The free Miami event is being hosted by Venture Hive, 1010 NE 2nd Ave. in Miami, on Tuesday, July 23, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. But the deadline to apply to pitch is Tuesday, July 16. To apply to present or to register to attend, go to http://startupworldmiami-eorg.eventbrite.com/. The Apply Now link is near the bottom of the eventbrite.
"Startup World is a chance to show that Miami startups can compete against the best internationally," said Susan Amat, founder of Venture Hive. "Venture Hive is happy to convene the top talent in our community to show off what we've got!"
Miami is the fourth stop in North America, which also included New York City, Vancouver and Montreal. The competition has already taken place in Mexico City, Peru, Chile, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Cape Town, South Africa, Nairobi, Kenya, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, Berlin, Paris and Barcelona. "We want to shine a light on these growing technology hubs by highlighting their entrepreneurs and startups,” said Startup World’s founder Hermione Way.
The winners of the regional pitch competitions will be sent to Silicon Valley for a grand showdown in late 2013 and a chance to win other prizes . Find information on eligibility requirements and judging criteria here. Follow the global contest on Startup World's Facebook page.
