FIU to open Florida Small Business Development Center

The Florida Small Business Development Center Network has awarded Florida International University a grant to establish a program that will help local companies grow and create new jobs.

The Florida SBDC at FIU, which will provide no-cost, one-on-one business consulting to local companies, will be a sister organization to FIU’s Eugenio Pino and Family Global Entrepreneurship Center, which offers workshops, seminars and networking events for entrepreneurs and business owners.

The new center will open in January. The College of Business is conducting a national search for an executive director who will oversee both the SBDC and Pino centers.

The Florida SBDC at FIU plans to operate out of multiple offices in Miami-Dade County and provide a team of experienced and certified professional business consultants with expertise in financial management, marketing, international expansion and the tech sector.

The Florida SBDC Network links the resources of the federal, state and local governments with the resources and knowledge of institutions of higher education, regional and local economic development organizations and the private sector.
