Mexico likely loses Marquez to calf injury

You know how NFL coaches always grouch about that the preseason is too long and unnecessarily puts their players at risk?

Think how Mexico coach Javier Aguirre feels this morning. He likely lost defender Rafael Marquez for next week's match against the United States -- in a meaningless game for a completely different team.

Playing for his club team, Barcelona FC, Marquez tore his left calf muscle in Barca's 4-0 exhibition match against the Seattle Sounders Wednesday night. He is expected to be sidelined about two weeks, meaning he will likely miss next Wednesday's World Cup qualifier.

The night was not a complete wash, however. U.S. soccer fans got to see Lionel Messi up close. He didn't disappoint. Check out this goal. Sick.
