World Cup Countdown: 15 Days to Go!
The Australia Socceroos were the first team to arrive in Brazil for the World Cup. Here are details from FIFA.com...
Australia has become the first of the total 31 teams to land in Brazil for the FIFA World Cup 2014™. The Socceroos reached Brazilian soil on Wednesday 28 May at around 6pm local when they arrived at the Curitiba International Airport.
“We are the underdogs. It will be a good opportunity for the Australian team to surprise, so this is all very exciting. And being in the ‘soccer country’ is an extra motivation, of course”, said midfielder Tommy Oar before the team boarded another flight - to Vitoria, in the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo, where Australia’s Team Base Camp is located.
“We’ve been training for the last few days and things have gone well. We still have some two more weeks to keep on training, so I think we will be well-prepared for the World Cup."
Playing their third consecutive FIFA World Cup, the Socceroos are part of Group B in Brazil alongside Chile – their first opponents on 13 June in Cuiaba – and 2010 finalists Spain and the Netherlands.
