DVD starting??? OMG

The best players will play regardless of position.. I love it!!

Kirby at QB? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Sam Shields being suspended doesn't surprise me. Also, Jerrell is a load and a good guy, hope he gets FB. I took Math 103 with him, Kenny Phillips & Lance Leggett this past summer and they were more on the ball with the academics than I was (we all passed). I think the 'Canes are in decent shape for the start of the season - these guys are "household names in the making".

Can't wait till saturday, Van Dyke starting
at CB, the OB will be rocking and rolling.
Go CANES. To all Hurricane fans, Please come
out to the OB and fill the stadium. If I can come out from Texas so can U.

I feel there is going to be 3-4 deep at alot of positions

KIRBY, KIRBY, KIRBY!

IS IT TIME NOW TO SAY: I TOLD YOU SO!!!

Wow, Rochford IS going to start at center. I'm glad about that for Morse's sake. He really likes playing guard and is poised to have a breakout season there. Now DVD at corner over 9 O'clock Sharpe; that will pay dividends in '08 and '09 as DVD acquires some serious experience. Kirby at QB...I originally thought Kyle would get the nod, but as training camp has gone along I heard more and more about long connections between Kirby and Shields so this is not a big surprise. I just hope Kyle mans up and embraces his role because he will likely see the field quite a bit anyway. Sam Shields, whatever you did, put it behind you and get your act together. The season is here, its going to be a good one, and we need you. Here's to Saturdays's throttling of the Herd!

I like the fact that Kirby is starting over Kyle cause he earned it. 1st sign that this team is being de-Cokerized, no more politics, the best players play.

What i'm not liking, but than again who am i , is Willie Cooper ahead of Ponder and i really don't like Jones ahead of Jenkins at all. Everytime i see Jones he's dropping a pass. Maybe it's cause Shields is suspended and Jenkins role this year is to play the slot.

Does anyone know what SS did???

Imagine, he probably missed a class or something.

Meanwhile a UF player gets caught with Mary-Jane and gets the same punishment.

let uf do whatever they want they r going to implode

Ponder or Cooper will start. This is TBD. As far as Jones starting in SS's spot, who knows. With the new coaching he could be a very good player!

This Saturday will be nuts. GO CANES!!!

Lets get it on!!! I just want to see the U tatooed on someones chest like to good old days!!!

No more heads held low, no more giving up, no more losses in the OB, period. All heart, all passion, all energy ALL OF THE TIME!!!

GO CANES!!!

Wow.....Freeman to Khalil Jones....we are in trouble my friends......i hope i'm totally wrong.......and where is Sharpton..all this talk about him starting and kicking butt.

*yawn* it doesnt matter who is under center when the Fightin Texas Aggies come to miami, or coral gables, and leaves the CoCanes crying. the Legion of Doom will leave its mark, and so will the Wrecking Crew. its not even going to be close . . be prepared for a sackfest, cuz the Ags are back!! and it starts with a WHOOPin at the OB or dolphin stadium or wherever you want to play the game.

Paul M
Fightin Aggie Class '06
WHOOP!

I did not see any surprises, maybe Rochford, if Allen Bailey would have started that would have been interesting and somewhat of a surprise. Kirby for me was obvious, with Nix, and Shannon's no political approach. Go Canes

will kyle transfer or is it too late?

what did Sam do? can someone slap that guy across the back of the head and then show him the recent Vick news again!? Are you kidding me! I love that Randy is not taking any #$%@ from these guys!

Probably to late as a Senoir who hasn't really proved much be hard for him to transfer. His best bet is to get his ship right and hope he can start in the next game.
I know some people don't like this move but think about it if Kirby ends being the man all season we will have a veteran QB coming back next year.

I think the fact Derrick Morse is starting a guard shows the coachs want a power running game w/ an elite pulling guard.

Time for a "CHANGE". Kyle had 4 years.
Good Luck Kirby !!!!

too late for kyle to transfer. he's used his RS year and too late to transfer to play at a div 1-aa team at this point.

Isn't it great that Cokers gone !! I think
he had his favorites, just like the teachers "pet"( students) and As% kissers in elementary School!!!! Great choices Randy
who is Dandy !!!!

KW can transfer to a D3 school. Interesting that this QB battle is similar to Ryan Clement v. Scott Covington, same sorta thing with finesse vs power.

I think the whole "Wrecking Crew" went out with Quentin Coryatt, Jason Atkinson, Steve Solari and the SWC conference. Maybe you had a brief glimpse of one player making up a single "Wrecking Crew" when Dat Ngyuen was there in '98. It's cute that some colleges try and hype up their defense with self-proclaimed titles .. the "Wrecking Crew", the "Blackshirts" - and this one makes me laugh more than anything - when Penn State has the idiotic notion that it should call itself "Linebacker U" ... hahaha, holy crap, that kills me every time. Don't even get me started on that - if you want to do your own research, check out how many Penn St. linebackers have been drafted into the NFL in the past 25 years ... what round they were drafted ... how long they actually stayed in the NFL ... how productive they were in the NFL ... and how many Penn St. linebackers are even in the NFL right now in a starting spot, let alone even on a team's roster or practice squad. NOW DO THE EXACT SAME RESEARCH FOR LINEBACKERS FROM THE "U". Enough said. The day I actually have any kind of concern about a team and a university that worships a damn Lassie dog and salutes it when they see it on campus is the day I no longer deserve to be a Hurricane.

i like a&M a bit, but sam got it right in calling the wrecking crew defense a thing of the past for them. their uniforms are still tight though.

I'm reading canepsorts and it states that the
BTW Coach gave somthing up by accident does anyone know by any chance ?????

Manny,

could u ask Jacory what he thinks of coach Nix and how he'll do as a play caller this season? thx in advance guys.

sam,

U better watch out . . the Wrecking Crew is back!! this is our year. miss shannon has no chance now that the CoCanes are in the ACC . . this aint the bigLeast anymore. Coker didnt have a chance with a good team, miss shannon has zero chance now. nobody worships a lassie dog in Aggieland. She is the highest ranking officer in the Corps of Cadets. for all thugU hippies, that means she outranks everyone in the Corps! she aint no donald duck on crack ibis.

Thanks and Gig'em

Manny, this question is for Jacory. Who is the frontrunner for your Elite 11 teammate Star Jackson? Is it true that he loves the U? Would you welcome his possible commitment and competition at QB.

Jacory, are all the 'West commits to the U strong, including yourself? What's up with Streeter? And what do you think about the Booker T kids, namely Harris?

Manny, how is bailey doing why is he so low? is it just typical freshmen thing trying to learn. adn why can't DVD and MCneal be returning Kickoff those two can fly

Manny...ask Jacory what he thinks about the BTW receivers (Johnson, Collier) he will be throwing to at the U and how they compare to AJ at MNW.

Also, please have him talk about what he feels are the three greatest strengths he brings to the QB position?

Manny ,did you attend the press confernce this morning and what were your thoughts and feel of how things went down.

Hey Manny ,ask Jacory if any of the guys read any of the blogs about the canes .

And when they play the chiefs tell him go easy on them for me.

Manny is Shannon saying that Kirby is the starter for THIS week and that I could change?

"We're excited by both of the quarterbacks," Shannon said. "We still consider Kyle as a starter because we're fortunate enough to have two quarterbacks with the ability to go in and lead us in the right direction, but as far as this week right here, Kirby's going to be the starter..

is this where we're supposed to be?

I guess..I dunno??

miamimike01,

This should be it. Manny was running a little late last time.

This is the right place. I'm about to begin answering questions.

A: Whatever Sam Shields did, its good to see Randy Shannon is sticking to his guns and punishing players for breaking his rules. It could have very well been that Shields had a cell phone on in class. We’re not sure. But I do know he’ll be back next week. Receivers coach Marquis Mosely told me Shields will have to fight for his starting job, though.

A: With UM’s talented recruiting class, I’ve got to admit I’m a little surprised that the one real freshman starter -- I don't consider Graig Cooper a true freshman -- is DeMarcus Van Dyke. But DVD, who told me he has been playing with the first team since the second week of camp, is a fast learner. Coach McGriff told me last week, DVD is ahead of the game in terms of his knowledge of the position and shows “no fear” when covering the team’s best receivers in camp. As for Bailey. I honestly think it has more to do with the fact he’s still learning UM’s defense. Seeing a freshman start at middle linebacker usually doesn’t happen. Cornerback, receiver, running back. That’s a different ball of wax. Bailey is going to be a great one before he leaves UM though.

Norman in 10 days, Mitch! Can't wait to see everyone there. We need to exchange emails so we can co-ordinate a meeting place for Canepsacers in Norman. Email me later

Manny are you still standing by your previous 9-3 record.

A: I'll let Susan answer this. Susan says Shannon has already proven with his depth chart than anybody can lose their job at anytime. But I think he was trying to somewhat soften the blow for Kyle. Kirby said he doesn't intend to let go of his starting spot, but if he has a bad game, don't expect Shannon to stick with him.

miamimike stop slumming and go somewheres else with that.

Q: Did you attend the press confernce this morning and what were your thoughts and feelings of how things went down? Posted by: Deameanor | August 28, 2007 at 06:48 PM

A: I’m going to blog about this tomorrow, but what stuck with me most after the press conference was how Shannon stuck to his word and really picked the best starters for the team. Maybe the fact the previous leadership group was sort of predictable is what threw me off in my picks (OK, I’m looking for excuses). Shannon said hard work and the old school mentality of the guy who wins in practice is the guy that starts. He stuck to his words by picking not only Freeman to play quarterback, but guys like John Rochford at center and DeMarcus Van Dyke at cornerback. Surprise choices in my eyes. I spoke to Lovon Ponder and Chris Zellner at length about what that meant to the team and got some great responses. I’ll share that and more in my blog tomorrow.

Q: Manny, over the past couple of months recruits were commiting left and right. As of this mont, no one has commited. Whats the latest on the recruiting front?
PS I hope KW doen't have sour grapes. Posted by: MNSHURRICANE | August 28, 2007 at 11:58 AM

A: To me it’s just a timeframe issue. A lot high school guys are no longer making trips because they are in practice and preparing for their own seasons. I think it will be pretty quiet from here until December. You might see a few guys make commitments. But most who haven’t already will likely wait until their prep seasons are over.

Manny Kylan is 2nd at WLB, Is he another DJ Williams is the making?
