It's going to be Kirby

The Miami Herald has learned from a source close to the university, that Kirby Freeman will be the starting quarterback for the opener against Marshall on Saturday in the Orange Bowl.

Fifth-year senior Kyle Wright was told that Freeman was the starter this morning. Wright missed the last four games of 2006 while recooperating from thumb surgery. Freeman, who started those last four games of 2006, by all accounts had a better preseason than Wright. Wright was hindered by an injured left knee and missed the final preseason scrimmage.

Freeman's 2006 statistics: 59 completions in 108 attempts for 872 yards and 7 touchdowns. He threw 8 interceptions. He also ran for 1 touchdown.

Check back with Miami Herald.com around 11:30 this morning for the official announcement.

Also, don't forget to leave questions tonight for our live Q&A session right here at Eye on The U around 8 p.m. Northwestern High QB and UM commitment Jacory Harris will be on live at 8:30 p.m. to field questions as our special guest of the week.

Kirby, with a little help from
PN = NIX (a la - the one who made GT a great offense!) may be able to do as Reggie Ball did, take a fair amount of talent and channel it into a hard to stop QB with tons of moves and plenty of zip in his arm and legs!!!

Go CANES!!!

Is the the press conference going to be streamed online?

ya but you have to have all access to watch it

I still didn't know where you and Shandel got the impression that it would be KW. I am no football expert, yet, I knew it would be KF. Have people really took notice and realize how awful KW have been the past two years? How do you blame the O-line when a qb repeatedly is taking 15-20 yard sacks when your team has the ball in the opposite 25-30 yard line. KF only starts 5 games in his career. Based on experience KW should be much better than him; but KW is not.

How much weight has Jacory gained this offseason?

Lead us to the promised land Kirby!

GARBAGE....
7-6 HERE WE COME!! LOOKING FORWARD TO MARVE IN '08 ALREADY

I hope KF can hang on to it, I think it was the right choice for the team. I think the players like KF more and follow his leadership more. Randy also likes mobile QB's, which KF definitely is.
I still think we will see KW some. Don't let this decision divide us, The Legion. We should be for whoever can win us games. Don't forget, we still have the future to look forward to, with Marve and Harris lined up to compete in 2 years.

Manny, over the past couple of months recruits were commiting left and right. As of this mont, no one has commited. Whats the latest on the recruiting front?
PS I hope KW doen't have sour grapes

THANK GOD.

KIRBY ACTUALLY HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE A PLAY HAPPEN.

KYLE WOULD PUT HIS HEAD DOWN AND DUCK WHEN THE POCKET COLLAPSED.

THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT YEAR FOR THE CANES.

KIRBY HAS THE SKILL, DETERMINATION, TOUGHNESS,LEADERSHIP, AND DRIVE TO SUCCEED, KIRBY JUST HAD A DECENT ARM AND THATS ALL.

oach Nix will make Kirby his "personal roject" and he will be fine. No coach is going to play a kid that he has no faith in. Kirby needed a mentor and now he has that in Patrick Nix. Have faith and laugh at all the media pundits who believe the Canes falter.
