Canes lose out on Sabino, Howard

Our Barry Jackson is reporting that the two top Miami Dr. Krop High prospects, linebacker Etienne Sabino and cornerback Travis Howard, have decided to cross the University of Miami off their list.

Howard, considered one of the top defensive backs in the state, said he orally committed this afternoon to Ohio State. "The atmosphere, the fan support, everything at Ohio State was awesome," he said. "I considered Miami very hard. But I did not want to be in Florida. I wanted to accomplish new things and meet new people."

Sabino informed UM that he is no longer considering the Hurricanes according to his mentor, Brett Goetz. Sabino, rated the 17th best player in the country by ESPN.com, has now narrowed his choices to Ohio State and USC.

beautiful, beautiful bye : ) usc, fu, usf fua, fui, runtgers, unc, vatech & uva go down ...

canes4life, U missed a few 1st rounders:

Bubba Franks
Damion Lewis
Kellen Winslow
Mike Rumph
Phillip Buchannon
Vernon Carey
Nate Webster
William Joseph
Jerome Mcdougle
Greg Olsen
Jonathan Vilma
Jeremy Shockey

Both Clinton Portis and Rocky Mcintosh were just a pick or two away from being 1st rounders, and had the late great Chris Cambell ( original starting LB in 2001 before season-ending injury) not been killed in a car wreck 2 weeks after the nc game he too would have been a 1st rounder. Last but definately not least, the late Bryan Pata's stock was on the rise. He was projected to go in the first three rounds. So when it comes to the pros its not even close. Afterall, it is called the MFL...Miami Football League!

an announced crowd of 16,902 witnessed fledgling florida atlantic football lose to some louisiana directional school ... BS

The key word is PAID. In previous years The Suit had gone with actual, or turnstile, attendance, despite most other programs going with paid. So this year The Suit decided to join them, after watching FIU post attendances of 10,000-plus last season when it was more like 3,000 in the stands." PHANTOM FAN BASE

florida atlantic & florida international lie about their attendance to appear larger & meet division 1 requirements. but for strongarming unsuspecting students through athletic fees, the fledgling football programs would be out of business ...

usf & runtgers undressed ...

Anybody who thinks (usf) is a one-hit wonder doesn't know that team.

You are right ACC CHAMPS!!!
Miami needs to beat NC St, Va Tech, And Va. They could loose to BC and then beat them in ACC Championship game

nobody does it better ... makes me feel sad for the rest ... nobody does it half as good as U ... baby, you're the best -- carole bayer sager

Does anyone else realize that the combination of V-Tech's loss to BC and NC State's win over Virginia means that the Canes control their own destiny in the ACC?

Posted by: ACC Champs? | October 27, 2007 at 09:49 PM win ... and we're in

I am happy to see Rutgers cinderella dress finally came off, after Shiano turned down Miami, what was he thinking??

USF didnt even get a chance to put it on before reality set in. They are one hit wonders.

Urban Meyer is the equivalent to Larry Coker he will forever be haunted by the fact that he only won with Zook's players.

USC is slowly headed down, down, down.

All this means one thing Miami is going to be on top by next year. I cant wait.

Now we have something to play for!

GO CANES, WIN AND WE ARE IN!!!

UM fans saying OSU has a tough schedule, who exactly were u beating when u won the national championship back in 01, Rutgers, Syracuse, bc, wvu(they werent as good as they are now)omg those are sum powerhouses huh

To any OSU fan who thinks you play a tough schedule and we didn't/don't, ask yourself the following questions...

HOW MANY TIMES HAS OSU PLAYED A #1 TEAM DURING THE REGULAR SEASON??

HOW MANY TIMES OVER THE LAST 22 YEARS HAS MIAMI PLAYED A #1 TEAM DURING THE REGULAR SEASON?? AND WHAT IS MIAMI'S RECORD IN THOSE GAMES???

OTHER THAN MICHIGAN, WHO DOES OSU PLAY THAT IS REGULARLY RANKED IN THE TOP-20???

WHEN MIAMI WENT UNDEFEATED IN 2001, HOW MANY RANKED TEAMS DID WE PLAY AND HOW BADLY DID WE BEAT THEM???

OF THE GREATEST GAMES IN THE LAST 23 YEARS OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL, HOW MANY OF THEM HAVE INVOLVED THE BUCKEYES???

HOW MANY OF THESE GAMES HAVE INVOLVED THE HURRICANES????

After you've answered those questions I do believe you will never show your silly, inflated selves again on a Miami Hurricane website.

But if you really want to have reality thrown in your face, come on over to Canespace.com and talk to the Legion.

The invitation is always open.

BTW, Sabino is big but doesn't play like a Hurricane. He fits the OSU, USC mold better.

At least we won our 01' title fair and sqaure, so f*ck you F*ck U!

hey SUCKEYES enjoy the castaway. Miami hadn't decided if they were going to offer this kid. I guess he is good enough for the Overrated.

We hear ya Cav-our history speaks for itself. History also shows that the U never stays down for long. The only thing keeping us from being an emerging team next season is the QB. If the recruiting class holds up, our dark days are over.

USF fans-all we hear are crickets. I said it after I saw them against WVA-PRETENDERS.

Lets not worry about J'ville just yet. Lets focus on winning the next 2 at home against flawed teams. How psyched would any of us be if we could go to B'burg at 7-3 with a little Mo in the back seat. Hold serve fellas, and then lets see what happens.

GO CANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its terrible how some high school players have absolutely no pride or commitment in their "supposed" city....It's also great to see that UM can still attract the better quality players from better teams in Miami(Northwestern)... Krop is a bunch of sell-outs...go Canes!!!!

thought-provoking post, Cavaleer

unequal schedules & media bias necessitate a playoff ... JUNK THE B(C)S

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/story/285107.html the University of Miami should consider switching radio stations when our contract expires in '08. the dolphins hijacked 560 turning the once-proud sports leader into de facto dolphin radio ... crowding out UM talk ... shoving that dolphin happy talk down your throat until your ears ring ... dolphin sunday, dolphin monday, dolphin evening save thursdays, dolphin sunrise to sunset with all the dolphin employees one can stomach save the GREAT Neil Rogers ... btw, Neil rules the ratings roost & he hates the dolphins. numbers don't lie ... how those dismal ratings, 560? IN THE CRAPPER! ... upstart 790 cleans old guard 560's clock: morning, afternoon, night ... the moral: we'll listen to anything else but force-fed dolphin talk. mad as hell ... not gonna take it anymore ... and neither should U!

With V.T. and Viginia both losing this weekend, Miami is now in control of their own destiny.
WHO KNOWS?

isnt GT in the driver seat? same record as us in our division is what scares me i think we need to win out and they need to lose one

my mistake GT has 3 division losses.. UM is in the driver seat but needs to win out.. hard but possible..

Hey Manny,

I know that this ain't thursday, but I am trying to stay away from the computer in order to do good in school. With that said, I got a question to ask you.

Do you know the names of the freshman that didn't make it in the 2007 recruiting class? This might have already been asked, but just curious. Thanks if you answer and thanks if you don't

you guys forgot one first rounder.he died to early started for phi.Mr Brown.

GT has 3 loses in the division. Miami only has two.

hey haters, live with it. The Buckeyes are staying at number one. Chalk another one up for O-H-I-O. Like I said a few days ago, work on winning games in your own watered-down conference, then maybe, in a few years, you guys have a shot to be good again. Hope you guys are happy with mediocrity, Tress is building a dynasty here. And I won't even mention basketball. Matta has 3 studs already verballed for the 2110 class. Do you guys even compete in the ACC anymore? Columbus is becoming a sports mecca.

Columbus is becoming a sports mecca.

Posted by: Scott | October 30, 2007 at 12:22 AM oh, really ... what's the name of your NFL, NBA, MLB clubs? BUSH LEAGUE

in a few years, you guys have a shot to be good again. Hope you guys are happy with mediocrity, Tress is building a dynasty here.

Posted by: Scott | October 30, 2007 at 12:22 AM in his 1st year, tress lost 5 games captaining the buckeyes ... hope for Coach Shannon?

hey scott, dynasty connotes championships. how many you got ... DYNASTIC?

hey scott, how's the weather in goodbye, columbus? BLAH

forget them. all that tells me is they're scared to compete down here at the U. they play in the number one highschool football city in the country and are aware of the level of competition down here. btw what class is Krop? class 0-A? we'll see one of you in the 2010 national champion and the other in 2011!!! till then good luck and rep Miami to the fullest.

be afraid ... be very afraid

They chose to go to CORRUPT U. Tressel has won the award for biggest cheater coach five years running now. They sold out for the $$$$ - I guess in some sense I don't blame them. Krop is a joke though anyway.

Hey Scott, the Buckeye fan......Don't gloat too much..you have Happy Valley coming up and it looks like your way overrated Buckeyes will be exposed. As far as the 03 game goes against the U...don't talk down to us...THANK YOUR REF..THE U BEAT YOUR BUTT!!

The Hurricanes aren't going to be a football power again. I think that's obvious.

When two nationally top-ranked quarterbacks (Berlin and Wright) both attend the same school and both suddenly "forget how to play quarterback," it's not the players or the talent level; it's the system.

When a school's recruiting classes consistently rank in the top 10, and the team loses games to the dregs of NCAA ball (NC State, UNC) and can't beat even mediocre programs (GA Tech, Louisville) and gets humiliated by the good programs (LSU, OSU), it's not the players or the talent, it's the system.

It doesn't add up. Something stinks in Denmark.

Okay, so the 'Canes are in a transition period: new coach, et cetera, et cetera. They can't compete for a national title until they get out of it. I can buy that.

But when they consistently lose to teams like NC State and UNC--when their offense simply cannot play--then the standard old excuses don't wash anymore.

Miami Northwestern can beat UNC and NC State.

I believe either the conference or the school has instituted a policy change, and one result of it is that its sports programs will not be as successful as they were; they won't be the dominant powerhouses they once were.

The glory days are over. It's a new era at UM: call it "the Shalala era."

That's okay. I can live with that. But I don't like the deceit. I don't like the way the fans are strung along with implied promises of a future as great as the past.

The school doesn't owe the fans a championship football program, but it does owe itself and everybody the truth.

I don't have to know what's really going on with UM football. But so long as what I'm told doesn't jive with what I see, I won't be seriously interested in what the team does, and if I were a top high school football talent, I'd read the writing on the wall.
