Whats good Manny, have any ideal how the canes lost out on those two Krop players and what school will sabino choose

Give us your prediction for the Canes record from here on out, and what if any games we drop. Assume that Kyle does not play until Virginia.

Manny:
Thanks for everything you do for all of us so far removed from south fla. Can you give us an update on recruiting? Any new commitment predictions we should be watching for over the next few weeks? Does it worry you that the Canes do not appear to be signing any DE's (with Moncur and Campbell most likely leaving)?

Whats up Manny? Whats the lastest on the recruiting front? I see where some of the Northwestern boys took a trip to Tenn. Any new prospects popping up on the scene? Thanks

Besides all former players coming back to the OB for the last game, have you heard any other rumors about any special events or activities either before or after the game?

We all heard the rumors that certain players will be asked to leave, I have 2 questions on that issue (1) any opinion as to which players will be asked to leave; (2) will UM help these players get scholarships at other schools?? I don't think UM wants to get the reputation as a program that just dumps its players. Thanks!

Manny,

Message boards were buzzing a little about a rumor of Doug Wiggins looking to transfer. Have you heard anything like that? Also, what do you think of a true freshman looking to transfer because of lack of playing time (even though im not definate on rather or not that's the reason Wiggins is rumored to transfer).

Why is Lou Holtz still on TV? He's some a Notre Dame homer and can barely put a sentence together without spitting all over Marc May. Any idea as to how we can get that bumbling idiot off ESPN?

Oops, meant to say "such a Notre Dame homer". Sorry about the typo.

Any chance the Canes wear a special uniform for the last home game? Or maybe all orange? Or all green? Something crazy?

Manny, coming down for the UVA game. Any bars/restaurants I should hit up while I'm down in Miami?

Manny...Susan has an article on Kyle and his status for Saturday. Is he going to play or not?

Also we had some polls over at Canespace for 2007 (so far) and here are the results:

Offensive MVP: Jenkins over Cooper by a slim margin (2%).

Defensive MVP: Gooden by a large margin.

Coaching MVP: Stoudtland (OL)

Biggest Surpise in 2007: The Entire OL.

Biggest disappointment for 2007: Leggett.

Would you have voted the same or differently?

Manny, first of all that was a great article you did on Sunday about Hurtt. You hinted at some possible commits on the horizon in your article, can you elaborate?

Manny why the press conference of today was
so short?

Do you think Coach Shannon is doing a good job with the media and for Miami's new image
across the country?

The coaches are assigned a certain geographic area, right? What coach(es) are assigned to Dade County? Or is that Shannon territory??

Talent wise do you think NCST is better than
NC and GT?

Great article on Hurtt by the way. I love it when he chest-bumped Vegas during the A&M game ... love it!!!

Do you think the Canes are really focusing on NCSt? Or do you think they've already chalked that game and UVA up as wins and looking ahead to VTech? (I hope not.)

BTW, I know everyone on here is going to disagree, but IMHO, I think the Canes should always wear green and never orange.

Do you think that leggett will play? I really hope not I think he is full of negative vibes that this young team does not need? They need to believe and it just do not think leggett brings anything positive when he is in the game. Just my opinion!

Do you see any Canes going in the 1st round or will the streak end this year? Phillips? Campbell?

Hey U dont have to anwser this if U dont want to manny, but what democrat do U like in this election.

OK guys. Just got here. Thanks for being patient. I'll get to your all your questions in a sec.

Hahaha Canes#1 ... don't you know politics and sports never mix.

I know the coaches can not say anything about a recruit or who they are recruiting, but why is UM not going after more kids from the west? especially now that we are not getting Sabino, I would surely like to see the other 2 LBs and Thompkins come to the U.

Whats good Manny, have any ideal how the canes lost out on those two Krop players and what school will sabino choose? Posted by: atlcanefan | October 30, 2007 at 07:17 PM

A: Both of those Krop guys have an advisor who has guided them through the recruiting process. It’s not their high school coach but a former optimist coach. Both have wanted to go away from Miami. The attention they’ve drawn from the get-go from the USCs, Ohio States and Floridas has gotten to them. The funny thing is the Canes were the first big time school to offer Sabino. As soon as word hit, everybody jumped on board. I think ultimately Sabino is built for the Big 10. I think he’s headed to Ohio State with Travis Howard. The good news is the Canes have inside track to the top junior at Krop who could be better than both of those guys, linebacker Quavon Taylor – the son of former Giants great Lawrence Taylor.

Wow, Lawrence Taylor's son ... I hope he wear #56

Hi Manny,

Few quick shots:

1. ESPN Gameday at last game... any chance?
2. Kirby circa end of FSU... will he stick, and if he performs well against NCSU, does he start over Kyle?
3. Any bowl scouts been seen so far? They said Fiesta bowl folks were at the USF-Rutgers game. Just curious who is interested in what the Canes are cookin.

Thanks for the great reporting on practices and recruiting! Lookin forward to your next essay contest.

Manny...for the final game at the OB against UVA fans want to storm the field after the game. If UM and The City were smart they would tell MPD to let the fans do it AHEAD of time to avoid a nasty ending to the OB's history don't you think???

They should make a PUBLIC announcement BEFORE the game IMHO to let this happen peacfully and in an organized manner, do you agree?

Q: Give us your prediction for the Canes record from here on out, and what if any games we drop. Assume that Kyle does not play until Virginia. Posted by: Optimus Cane | October 30, 2007 at 07:30 PM

A: The ACC is so crazy anything can happen. The Canes could end up running the table and winning all four games and going to Jacksonville for the title game. I was on the Dos Amigos show on Saturday and the same question was posed to me. I said 2-2. I think the Canes can do better than that. But I’m taking the safe bet and thinking Miami wins both games at home and maybe steals one on the road. The toughest game will be Boston College on the road. Matt Ryan is a difference maker.

One look at OSUs new facilities and he's sold..not to mention 55k students, meaning all types of groupie love for him

I don't care what number he wears as long as he is a BEAST like his Daddy.

Canes win the two at home and also beat VT. I'll be there and I guarantee it!

86 "you got that one"

I'm be optimistic and say we win out. Shannon and staff will have to do their best coaching. The team will have to be on top of their game each week also

Sabino was NEVER coming to Coral Gables so acknowledge that he is a good player, let that one go and wish him luck. Until he plays the Canes of course!

Then he learns the time honored lesson:

You can play for the Canes or lose to them. Ask Preston Parker at FSWHO, he knows...

Q: Manny: Thanks for everything you do for all of us so far removed from south fla. Can you give us an update on recruiting? Any new commitment predictions we should be watching for over the next few weeks? Does it worry you that the Canes do not appear to be signing any DE's (with Moncur and Campbell most likely leaving) Posted by: ChicagoCane | October 30, 2007 at 07:47 PM

A: Moncur isn’t going anywhere after this season. In fact, he’d be smart to come back, have a tremendous senior season and get himself into the first round. As you know I can’t directly quote what coaches and my sources have told me about the Canes recruiting front, but I can tell you who they are after. I was told lots of headway was made this weekend with Lakeland Kathleen WR T.J. Lawrence. I know Rivals hasn’t reported it yet, but Miami now believes it is in the firm lead for him. As many of you know already Seffner Armwood Matt Patchan and Kansas linebacker Arthur Brown will be visiting in the coming weeks. Those three would be huge gets from out of the South Florida area. Look for the next official commitment to be Jacksonville Forrest offensive lineman Bryan Jones. As far as the defensive end position, UM is certainly looking to land a stud. I’ll have a more in depth recruiting blog in the coming week. Stay tuned for it.

I predicted a 9-3 season, so I can't afford to have them lose another game anyway.

what did you guys think of GA end zone celebration

Hey Manny, is Doug Wiggins still on the team? There are rumours from some fan-sites that he has decided to transfer due to no PT.

Hey, Manny who will get the bulk of carries this week against NC State?

Win all 4 games? No way ... are you crazy? You can be optimistic but also need to be realistic. This years team doesn't have "it" to win 4 in a row, especially the last 2 on the road against good teams. 2-2 would be a good finish for this team. Win at home.

Doug wont transfer

Q: Whats up Manny? Whats the lastest on the recruiting front? I see where some of the Northwestern boys took a trip to Tenn. Any new prospects popping up on the scene? Thanks. Posted by: Da U | October 30, 2007 at 07:49 PM

A: What up Da U? Since I just answered a question on recruiting, I’ll address the Northwestern situation. Those kids like most of UM’s commitments are all looking for some free trips. It’s just the way kids are nowadays. And colleges are willing to do it for the guys they hope they can pry away. I just think those Northwestern kids are locks. They all want to win a national championship together. And they know Miami is the place to do it.

Hey Manny,

I posed this same question to Dan Lebatard on his chat yesterday:

Why can a team like Arizona State go 8-0 coming off a 7-6 season last year but the Canes can't? Erickson even has Rich Olsen as his OC, who was ours in 2006, and they are playing at a totally different mindset, yet we, specifically Shannon, uses the excuse of "deprogramming"? I know our recruiting classes have been better on paper than ASU, too... I'm sick of hearing the "Coker screwed us" excuse. Erickson and ASU are living proof that you can make chicken salad out of chicken sh%t. I didn't buy Dan's whole "Erickson is a failure" schtick because he made a perennial Pac10 doormat in Oregon State into a BCS bowl team in 2000 with Houshmandzadeh & Chad Johnson there. Your thoughts?

Q: Besides all former players coming back to the OB for the last game, have you heard any other rumors about any special events or activities either before or after the game? Posted by: CANESFAN | October 30, 2007 at 08:02 PM

A: There’s going to be a ton of events. I just got invited to a party at a hotel thrown by Jonathan Vilma. Dozens of former Canes are expected to be there. I’ll have more info you in the coming days.

Manny, Quavon Taylor plays for MNW not Krop.

The Krop junior LB is Quan Fletcher, and I agree that he's better than Sabino. Sabino's plays to upright and stiff IMO.

Canesfan,

I don't care..I'm going for broke. The worst that can happen is I'll wind up being pissed like I was after the NC and GT loses. I'm also hoping Nix and Harris have learned something over the course of this season that will have them better prepared for the home stretch.

Q: We all heard the rumors that certain players will be asked to leave, I have 2 questions on that issue (1) any opinion as to which players will be asked to leave; (2) will UM help these players get scholarships at other schools?? I don't think UM wants to get the reputation as a program that just dumps its players. Thanks! Posted by: CANESFAN | October 30, 2007 at 08:03 PM

A: No question UM will NOT just dump these kids. All the kids who leave will do so because coaches will be honest with them and tell them there is simply no chance for them to see the field. And they will be aided in finding another school. I’m not going to get into specific kids. But just look at the depth chart for those second and third-year players who have been passed by freshmen on the depth chart. Those are the guys.

Manny, didn't see you already had a couple of recruiting questions. You can just ignore mine, good looking out with the info. Staff is doing one hell of a job

Manny, any chance that Shalala has been playing us all along knowing that the final season in the OB would lead to an increase in tix sales? Would she then have the b*lls to turn around and use that money to renovate the old girl and keep us their until the apocalypse?
