OK folks. I'm going to get started with our weekly Q&A session soon. Feel free to leave your questions below. I'm going to go back and find the ones you left me earlier this afternoon.

I spoke to several people today including Calais Campbell, Eric Moncur, Clint Hurtt, Robert Marve, Derrick Morse, Joe Joseph, Chavez Grant, Kenny Phillips and Kyle Wright and some others. Audio is being posted as we speak on our UM audio link if you want to check out what they said.

See you at 8 p.m.

"There will be guys who are here on this team right now that will not be here next year. And it won't be because they leave the team to enter the NFL draft early or because their eligibility is up."

*gasp*.....*jawdrop*.....

I think I just wet myself.....

Q: Well, as a true fan, I am going to the FSU game. Not feeling real good about the outcome. Think we have any, any chance of winning? Posted by: DestionCane | October 16, 2007 at 08:15 PM

A: Of course the Canes have a chance at winning. Have you seen the Seminoles lately? Sometimes I wonder if these two teams aren't mirror images of one another.

Manny...thanks for the LIVE chat!

U are the real deal and all of us Canes fans out here thank you for what U do!!!

GO MANNY, GO CANES, BEAT FSU!

Q: Hi Manny, love the blog! Can you comment on the difference between physical and mental talent. Are our boys lacking both? I know you need both to succeed, but missed assignments, tackles, and breakdowns are mental mistakes. Are these guys just not well coached, or they never learned the basics under Coker? Posted by: jtime | October 16, 2007 at 08:22 PM

A: I’m not going to call this team stupid. There are plenty of bright young minds on this squad. But every team has its guys that don’t learn the playbook to its full capacity. Miami has good coaches. It’s the talent that is not there right now.

Q: Manny, what do U think our final record will be at the end of the season 5-7/6-6/7-5/8-4. Posted by: 4thQtr | October 16, 2007 at 08:23 PM

A: I said 9-3 at the beginning of the season. Now, I think the Canes finish 7-5 in the regular season – one game better than last year.

Manny my question is simple and to the point. With everyone talking about how bad, including myself, the present UM players are and/or how poorly they play. With that being said and how good recruiting is going and with UM appx. having 22-23 scholarships to give this year. How many recruits is UM briging in this year and can Randy Shannon take from some seniors to be their scholarships? Seeing how many players they offering to would actually bring in about 26-28 new CANES.

I ask againg cause I really want to know haw it is that Shannon is going to be bringing so many guys in?

Q: Why does the U only have one OL commit for next year? It seems to me that is where the foundation of a great football team starts as far as protecting the QB and running the ball. Is that being emphasized in recruiting? Not to play keeping up wth the Jones' or anything, but I recall reading that USC has two 5-star OL recruits coming in. Posted by: CaneInCali | October 16, 2007 at 08:31 PM

A: Miami currently has one offensive lineman in this class – Northwestern offensive lineman Brandon Washington. But Matt Patchan from Seffner Armwood will visit in the OB’s swan song on Nov. 10. Canes fans should start chanting MATT PATCH-AN! during the third quarter so they can get this kid.

A: Miami can only sign a maximum of 25 in February. But through early enrollment, Miami can sign up to 8 players. That’s 33 scholarships.

Q: Will randy shannon start Randy Phillips at safety for the FSU game. Please ask coach Shannon. Posted by: Geo | October 16, 2007 at 08:35 PM

A: He could. But I don’t think so. I think he’s sticking with Cooper and Kenny Phillips this week.

MANNY, i thought a team could only have 85 scholarship players total.

Q: Manny...ask Susan if she were head coach waht would she do differently than what Randy has done? And then ask her who is her favorite player on the UM team and why? Posted by: 86Cane | October 16, 2007 at 08:38 PM

A: Sorry 86. We hung up about an hour ago. She really doesn't have a favorite player -- but some favorite interviews. I'll see if I can get her to answer this one tomorrow, though.

So that is the reason why they want to bring all these kids like Patrick, Jacory, Futch and Spence in early. Thanks Manny.

Whats this I see on Scout.com about Sean Spence, and maybe some other Northwestern commits becoming "Soft Verbal" instead of "Solid?"

A: That's right Generalcane. But there's always ways of managing your scholarships -- like having guys transfer.

Forston, Johnson, and Spence went to Tennesee last week is the word.

MANNY, who do you see being the transfers ?

I hope you do not mind me answering this one.

They do this so they seem they are interested in the school they are visiting so they can travel around for free.

Q: Hey Manny, great job your doing, keep up the GREAT work. Love all the info. you provide. Don’t know if you know this or not, but if you UM can sign eight recruits early, who would they be? Posted by: KillerBeez41 | October 16, 2007 at 08:41 PM

A: Miami’s targeting most of its early commitments as early signees – the most likely are Jacory Harris, Patrick Johnson, Marcus Forston, Sean Spence, Jordan Futch – and some other non-current commitments – Brandon Harris.

Q: How can USF play better than UM with much lower rated recruits? Our classes have been consistently ranked WAY higher than USF over the years, yet they are a better team. We can't blame it on Coker's poor coaching this year. PLEASE explain the Manny! Posted by: St.PeteCane | October 16, 2007 at 08:58 PM

A: The answer is simple St. Pete Cane. These guys who do these recruiting rankings aren't always on the money. They do most of their scouting on videos. You have to see a kid play in person to be a good evaluator of talent. USF didn't have as highly touted classes. But they got players who fit their mold, grew up under the same coach and believed in the system. Miami has not had any of those elemets in the last three seasons. Sad to say for Canes fans, but USF is the best college football team in the state right now. And UM is a distant third.

I heard several other big name schools with better records are heavily going after Patrick Johnson. Can you provide any insight on that? Great work by the way!!

A: The Northwestern kids are getting free trips. They want to enjoy the college recruiting experience before they put on The U in a few months.

Q: MANNY, who do you see being the transfers? Posted by: generalcane | October 16, 2007 at 09:49 PM

A: If you look at the roster its pretty easy. Look at the guys who are veterans that are buried on the depth chart -- Chris Barney, Derron Thomas, Eric Houston. I hate to point guys out. But its easy to see guys who could be lost in the shuffle.

OK, I'm done. Two hours of Q&A. A bonus because its FSU week. See you next week at Canespace.com.

manny,

aren't these randy's players now? wasn't he in charge of recruiting when coker was here? i thought that was one of the reasons we hired him, was because of his recruiting

Barney gotta loss that weight. His ability is there. But if he ain't losing weight like he needs to I guess the dedication isn't. We need someone to take Youngblood's job.

Thanks Manny - you rock!

thanks manny!

Miami fans are fickle and not enough of them are real fans. The U in my opinion has about 20,000 real fans, the diehards who surf the message boards and show up every Saturday. The rest all jump on when the team is good. The rest bash them.

Posted by: Manny | October 16, 2007 at 08:09 PM did you pull that # out of thin air or did you survey the 52,416 that attended the obsolete Orange Bowl last saturday? you understate our rabid fan base. grassy's membership alone exceeds 20,000 ... making it one of the most active football boards on the world wide web. a fan by any other name is still a fan ...

Sad to say for Canes fans, but USF is the best college football team in the state right now. And UM is a distant third.

Posted by: Manny | October 16, 2007 at 09:55 PM the guys ranking recruits are in it for the money ...

My sources at UM say Hammond got an offer from the Gators shortly after the Canes offered and he is committed to the Gators.

Posted by: Manny | October 16, 2007 at 08:00 PM per canesport, soft verbal Frankie Hammond will visit U ... stay tuned
