More Good News, Live Q&A

posOn the eve of National Signing Day, more good news is pouring out in the Canes' favor. Defensive end Gavin Hardin told Canesport.com early Tuesday evening he's coming to UM.

Hardin becomes the second player one day before National Signing Day to announce he'll be choosing the Canes on Wednesday. InsideTheU.com reported late Tuesday night that receiver Laron Byrd made his commitment to Miami.

So what else did I hear Tuesday?
* Northwestern receiver Tommy Streeter told me moments ago he will wait to announce his decision at 9 a.m. tomorrow on campus. Streeter and I spoke for 10 minutes about his decision-making process. I came away with the impression he's been most impressed by South Carolina. We'll find out where he's going tomorrow. LISTEN TO THE AUDIO.

* A source I respect highly told me after a conversation with Jacksonville Trinity Christian's coaching staff that running back Jamie Harper is going to end up picking Clemson tomorrow when he announces around noon. Harper was very impressed with UM, but my source told me Harper's close relationship with high school teammate Daniel Andrews is what will lead him to pick the Tigers tomorrow.

PROGRAMMING UPDATE: As I told you yesterday, I'll be hosting a live Q&A tonight from 8 to 9 here on Eye On The U. It will be followed with an additional hour at Canespace.com from 9 to 10. By the way, Larry Blustein just told me he'll be joining us tonight for the blog in about half an hour. I'll let you know when he calls me.

FINAL REMINDER: Please check Miami Herald.com all day tomorrow for your recruiting updates. Andre Fernandez, Bob Emanuel and the rest of The Herald staff will be feeding news online all day.

Whats up Manny? Looks like the Canes are going to run out of scholly's. Do you think the coaches already know who is coming?

Manny,

With Hardin and Byrd announcing their commitment today, what are the odds that they'll switch their commit tomorrow?

What's the breakdown of the number of offense and defense players coming in? Is the focus more on improving talent on the offense side?

Who do you think will decommit from Miami tomorrow, if any? Will it be a huge surprise? What type of impact will it have on this class and the talent pool Shannon is trying to build?

Manny do you think that with all of the academic scandals and turmoil in FSU Bryant might want to begin the trend of sending kids from Lincoln High school to the U lol

Which players Miami's targetting will not announce their commitment tomorrow? As I recall Noel Devine announced his committment much later than NSD.

Manny, please don't tell me your highly respected source is "Realcanesfan".....

Manny,
What is your opinion on the possiblity of the Heat trading Shaq?

Manny whats good...Who do you think will be the last minute shocker for the U and is it someone we haven't heard much about?

Manny: It's great to see we are going to have real position competition this upcoming spring and fall. What are the most pressing needs where a freshman can step in and play right away? (Besides the obvious at QB)

I thought we did not get any production out of the tight-end position...

what do you think

Thanks a bunch Manny!

How about the TE from Michigan? Any chance we get him? I know we are getting all these WRs, but we need a TE.

Manny:
Let's say we have a bad day tomorrow and cannot fill all of our ships. Are their some other guys waiting in the wings for a late offer? Maybe Baker (CB)? Anyone else?

Thanks

Q: Whats up Manny? Looks like the Canes are going to run out of scholly's. Do you think the coaches already know who is coming? Posted by: Cane Domination | February 05, 2008 at 07:53 PM

A: I think they have a pretty good idea who is likely to come in and who isn't. Obviously, they now know Hardin and Byrd are coming.

Manny, do you see Marcus Robinson switching tomorrow??

When tomorrow is over I see Brandon Harris, B Jones, T Odom and maybe Tommy Streeter committing to the U. Who do you think out of the uncommitted will be a hurricane after tomorrow?

Q: Manny, with Hardin and Byrd announcing their commitment today, what are the odds that they'll switch their commit tomorrow? Posted by: Sy-Cane | February 05, 2008 at 07:53 PM

A: Not likely. I think they may have done it to make sure Canes coaches know they are coming for sure and not going to play any mind games. I can't see why a kid would announce the day before and then switch on it. The scholarships at The U are obviously running low. So, by announcing they're coming today, they avoid any trouble for themselves. Miami coaches have always encouraged these kids to commit early so they don't find themselves without a spot.

Who will be our starting MLB and have we recruited a MLB?

Q: What's the breakdown of the number of offense and defense players coming in? Is the focus more on improving talent on the offense side? Posted by: Sy-Cane | February 05, 2008 at 07:55 PM

A: I think the focus is simply trying to get as much talent as possible. This UM team isn't good enough now to simply be picky about what they want. Not only do they need front line guys, they need depth. Which is why you'll at least 6 receivers and 7 linebackers in this class.

Manny theresrumors about surprises for tomorrow do u think it can be Buchanon and TJ Bryant committing?

Manny, first just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work and dedication. You are a very talented journalist. Here is my question: Is there any chance that a lot of these recruits actually get significant playing time this year? Or do you think RS will go with experienced players and only play a "few" freshmen?

Manny,
rumors, rumors, rumors.....What do U think our chances are with TJ Bryant and B. Harris? If one or both fall through, who are our back-up options at CB?

Thanks

Manny, When will the 08 schedule be released? Who is our non-conference filler for North Texas?

Hey Manny, It bothers me to see Robert Marve out till 3 in the morning with his frat brothers chugging beer underage and basically acting like a baffoon.... whats up with that

What are the coaches going to do if no cornerbacks end up coming?

Manny....

What are the chances Cookie Buchanan picks the 'U' tomorrow. Also, any chances we get a Peanut Butter Sandwich surprise? (PJ)

Do U think there will be any surprise commits tomorrow, meaning anyone who was totally off the radar?

Q: Who do you think will decommit from Miami tomorrow, if any? Will it be a huge surprise? What type of impact will it have on this class and the talent pool Shannon is trying to build? Posted by: Sy-Cane | February 05, 2008 at 07:57 PM

A: My likely decommitments are DT Jeremy Lewis and WR Kendall Thompkins. Both have obviously flirted with leaving by visiting other schools. I think in the end, those are the two current commits Miami loses. I don't think it will have that big of an impact. I've been told Micanor Regis and Marcus Forston are better prospects at DT than Lewis. Thompkins was the third-best receiver on his high school team at Northwestern and Miami has a ton of guys it's bringing it at that spot.

First Manny, thank you for your deep and concerted effort to bring the news to we hungry canes fans.. My question is this , with the extremely large talented class we have coming in , where could a recruit possibly go with a better chance to succeed on the gridiron?

Q: Manny do you think that with all of the academic scandals and turmoil in FSU Bryant might want to begin the trend of sending kids from Lincoln High school to the U lol Posted by: UpNorth Cane | February 05, 2008 at 07:57 PM

A: I've got to think his parents have to at least be considering what happened at FSU. Obviously, C.J. Holton's parents who work at FSU had a reason to be willing to send their son to UM. Maybe that and the fact Bryant's mom is from Miami will be what leads T.J. to pick UM tomorrow.

Manny, how many CB's are in this class come Wednesday for the Hurricanes?

Great Job Manny,

Q1: Are we getting a TE in this class?
Q2: Who will the CBs be?
Q3: Are we changing the offense now with all these WRs into a spread offense?
Q4: Why did we not spend time on recruiting Offensive lineman? Is that not a concern to Shannon?

Manny my Uncle who lives in Tallahasee is saying that rumors are going around that TJ Bryant will Shock Everyone and head to the U do u thiknk that is the surprise shannon has in store?

Q: Which players Miami's targetting will not announce their commitment tomorrow? As I recall Noel Devine announced his committment much later than NSD. Posted by: Sy-Cane | February 05, 2008 at 07:59 PM

A: FYI guys, I posted a link to the audio from my interview with Streeter on the blog. You can find it now.

I think the only player who could potentially end up choosing UM that will not announce tomorrow is Pahokee receiver Martavious Odoms. It's been reported he could be waiting for a track scholarship to come in like Santana Moss did. Personally, I think there is a serious chance with the number of receivers UM already has that Odoms ends up picking schools willing to give him a football scholarship like West Virginia and South Florida.

Ole Manny, what's the chance Coach Young becomes dazed and faints tommorow because he isn't used to this much talent? LOL

Seriously, can coach Young Adapt to the talent he has? Is his system able to absorb this much speed but with a lot of youth?

Q: Manny, please don't tell me your highly respected source is "Realcanesfan"..... Posted by: Displaced Cane in Chi-Town | February 05, 2008 at 08:01 PM

A: Nope. It is somebody who has covered recruiting for a very, very long time.

What's good Manny.

Not many questions tonight. You've been great all season (football and recruiting). I anticipate us having a big day tomorrow and a few surprises sprinkled in. Let's hope for the best!

OK guys. Say hello to Larry Blustein who has agreed to come on and help answer some questions tonight.

I agree with Sensi... where's the Offensive Linemen?

Our O Line is NOT deep enough right now... do you see any surprises on THAT front tomorrow?

Hey Manny I have two questions for you. One do you think that we have a shot at stealing Baldwin from Pitt...there have been rumors that he may follow Hill, also what do you think about the rumor that Regis is going to switch to Oline? Thanks.

Q: Manny, what is your opinion on the possiblity of the Heat trading Shaq? Posted by: Gibby | February 05, 2008 at 08:05 PM

A: About time.

Manny...statistical data indicates that most predicitions of where recruits will sign are only correct maybe 70% of the time.

You have said repeatedly on this blog that Brandon Harris will be a Cane. What % do you lend to that specific prediction?

Hey manny what are your thoughts on Harper he seems to be the LB who can end up playng MLB, what have u heard about the kids skills

Whats up Manny. Thanks for all the great info. Have you heard any updates on Brandon Harris? Thanks man...

Welcome Larry B. : )

Larry...GREAT to have U here! The Canes need a TE and another OL. What do you have for us on those positions?

Larry Bluestein knws his stuff..................Hey larry what are your thoughts on TJ Bryant and do u think he can be a Surprise commit those are some rumors swirling around.

Mr. Bluestien, my question to U is, who is the best high school player that U have ever scouted or seen? or top 5 if possible.

Mr. Blustein. My pleasure to welcome. You have done great as well with Manny on the Countdown and I haven't missed an episode. What are you thoughts now on Ramon Buchanon being that he visited Miami last and it was unexpected?

Hey Manny
