More Good News, Live Q&A

posOn the eve of National Signing Day, more good news is pouring out in the Canes' favor. Defensive end Gavin Hardin told Canesport.com early Tuesday evening he's coming to UM.

Hardin becomes the second player one day before National Signing Day to announce he'll be choosing the Canes on Wednesday. InsideTheU.com reported late Tuesday night that receiver Laron Byrd made his commitment to Miami.

So what else did I hear Tuesday?
* Northwestern receiver Tommy Streeter told me moments ago he will wait to announce his decision at 9 a.m. tomorrow on campus. Streeter and I spoke for 10 minutes about his decision-making process. I came away with the impression he's been most impressed by South Carolina. We'll find out where he's going tomorrow. LISTEN TO THE AUDIO.

* A source I respect highly told me after a conversation with Jacksonville Trinity Christian's coaching staff that running back Jamie Harper is going to end up picking Clemson tomorrow when he announces around noon. Harper was very impressed with UM, but my source told me Harper's close relationship with high school teammate Daniel Andrews is what will lead him to pick the Tigers tomorrow.

PROGRAMMING UPDATE: As I told you yesterday, I'll be hosting a live Q&A tonight from 8 to 9 here on Eye On The U. It will be followed with an additional hour at Canespace.com from 9 to 10. By the way, Larry Blustein just told me he'll be joining us tonight for the blog in about half an hour. I'll let you know when he calls me.

FINAL REMINDER: Please check Miami Herald.com all day tomorrow for your recruiting updates. Andre Fernandez, Bob Emanuel and the rest of The Herald staff will be feeding news online all day.

Bailey is a freak, who needs to continue learning he game of football. he has size, strength and is quite the athlete. His football knowledge is somewhat behind.

Jersey number? Ask USC that question. They have no problem with numbers, they just give a kid whatever number they want. They have like 3 No. 7s...NO BEARING. IT SHOULDN'T HAVE!

Give Marve a break, he's a college kid. I'd be concerned if he wasn't out drinking beer. Its not like we have a game coming up or anything.

For every Marve out drinking story, there are 10 about him working out during holidays and at unusual times.

Q: What are the chances Cookie Buchanan picks the 'U' tomorrow. Also, any chances we get a Peanut Butter Sandwich surprise? (PJ) Posted by: cookiemonster | February 05, 2008 at 08:17 PM

A: If there is a sweet surprise tomorrow it is only going to be a cookie.

Chances Ramon switches back to the U, handicap the Jamie Harper to the U vs. Clemson, Nick Perry?? Also did PJ re-take his tests?

Manny and Blu, thanks a million.

The players coming back from last year who do you think steps up there game and will be the next big name at miami? Please name one from defense and one from offense. Manny you seriously out do yourself everytime I come on your blogs. Thanks for all the hard work.

Q: Manny, how many CB's are in this class come Wednesday for the Hurricanes? Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | February 05, 2008 at 08:25 PM

A: Two at the most. Brandon Harris and T.J. Bryant.

If the "U" can't get ant CB's maybe we could line up 3 safties and with all those great LB's rush everyone else.

I think Marve is too excited and intoxicated with the upcoming season to need any other stimulant...

He's hungry and wants to prove he's the man.

Eduardo is another top player along with Columbus RB Jakari Gore....Columbus just ot a Wes Welker clone a few weeks ago. Kenny Whittaker from Chaminade. Against Pahokee he had 7 catches for 98 yards....Love that kid!

Bailey will be the "man" in a year....

Manny when do u think randy and the staff is gonna start to hit the 09 recruits harder?

Q1: Are we getting a TE in this class?
Q2: Who will the CBs be?
Q3: Are we changing the offense now with all these WRs into a spread offense?
Q4: Why did we not spend time on recruiting Offensive lineman? Is that not a concern to Shannon? Posted by: Sensi | February 05, 2008 at 08:25 PM

A: 1. Possibly if Streeter or Byrd come in and switch to that spot. 2. Brandon Harris and possibly TJ Bryant. 3. Yes. Miami may actually have a passing game now. 4. UM did. They just didn't get Matt Patchan. Look for Ben Jones and Brandon Washington to join the class.

Q: Manny my Uncle who lives in Tallahasee is saying that rumors are going around that TJ Bryant will Shock Everyone and head to the U do u thiknk that is the surprise shannon has in store? Posted by: UpNorth Cane | February 05, 2008 at 08:26 PM

A: You got to hope it is if you are a Canes fan.

hey manny, just wondering what you expect out of damien berry and jared campbell next season. both looked impressive in their limited PT as freshmen. do they project as CBs or Safeties?

Q: Ole Manny, what's the chance Coach Young becomes dazed and faints tommorow because he isn't used to this much talent? LOL Seriously, can coach Young Adapt to the talent he has? Is his system able to absorb this much speed but with a lot of youth?
Posted by: rubcatcane | February 05, 2008 at 08:28 PM

A: I think whatever coach Young did at Kansas and you add talent to it and you are going to get something real special at UM.

OK guys. I'm going to make the switch over to Canespace now. I know we didn't get to all of your questions. But I'll come back here later tonight and answer whatever wasn't answered between 8-9. See ya over there.

Buchanan should examine the situation....Go to UF and be surrounded by ugly chicks in a boring town where people do the chomp nonstop---Or, go to MIAMI, home of 5 rings, South Beach, Tony Montana, Wide Rights 1,2,3,4 Left 1, Kosar's miracle, Walsh to Irvin, Dorsey to Shockey, all americans such as Sapp, Lewis, Reed, Taylor, Shockey, Winslow, Portis, Dorsey, Johnson, Buchanan (Phil), Rolle, Williams, Wilfork, McDougle, Kelly, Testaverde, Toretta, McGahee, Vilma, Morgan, Blades.......EASY CHOICE MY MAN!

Manny big fan of recruiting and thanks for your hard work not a recruiting question but how is javarris james neck doing and will he be ready to help cooper with the load or does it look like he might redshirt thanks

Manny, i just signed up, been reading for a while, you do a great job. I get all my Cane news from you. Any chance on Lieuguet or is that a done deal? Thanks

Thanks for the chat tonight Manny, you are the man. Don't be too proud to steal all the other hats at Harris' announcement tomorrow that aren't UM's before he takes the stage.

I remember when Larry was working for the Hallandale Digest and he interviewed me when I played baseball at Hallandale High for the season preview.

Kinda cool seeing Larry where he is now compared to where he was.

I listened to Streeter's interview with Manny and I got the impression that he wants nothing to do with his NW mates.... he talked liked their playing together and winning national championships was just a "Phase"/// sounds like he wants to be away from them.....sounds a little selfish to me.....but if he wants to go to South Carolina or Oregon...or anywhere else...so be it... we have a great receiver class.... good luck to him.

Uhhh...you've obviously never been to Gainesville. The chicks there are hot as f**k.

You're right about everything else, though.

STREETER IS COMING TO THE U
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

"Uhhh...you've obviously never been to Gainesville. The chicks there are hot as f**k."

What he said. I grew up in Coral Gables, grad school in Gainesville -- the talent in GVille was top-shelf.

the chicks born in gainesville are ugly, the hotones go to school there from dade broward and duval. there is way more hot chicks in south florida than gainesville.

Obviously. You're talking about a whole city and you're talking about Miami. I'm talking about the chicks that go to school there. They are hot. The chicks at UM don't even compare. And they come from all over the country, not just dade, broward, and duval.

Looking ahead to fall...

The defense starts with a solid core of incoming linebackers, a few good linemen, and a suspect secondary. How about an aggressive 3-4?

The offense starts off with a core of good running backs, a bunch of promising young receivers, a so-so offensive line, and a lot of inexperienced quarterbacks. How about employing the run and shoot until both the line and the quarterback positions solidify?

The special teams? A kicker and punter are sorely needed but there should be plenty of speedy, aggressive talent to effectively cover kickoffs and punts.
