The University of Miami men's basketball team will be going to Little Rock, Arkansas and will meet St. Mary's Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Gaels (25-6) were the runner-up in the West Coast Conference. It's a good matchup for UM considering they went 1-1 in the ACC Tournament. If Miami wins, they'll likely get Frank Haith's old team -- Texas -- in the second round.

Shocked at the #7 seed. Guess the experts have some respect for UM. Think the Canes would be extra hyped to get a win against Texas for coach?

Good stuff...things are starting to turn around in South Florida.

Congratulations!!! The Canes have an opportunity to advance to meet Texas if they can get their game going again in the right direction.

I actually think we could have been a higher seed if we beat Vtech in the tourney, committee looks at the last 12 games and our record was excellent but could have been at least 2 wins better.
Going to be alot of fun. Great job Coach Haith on the turnaround of the year, and you are coach of the year in my book!

The possible 2nd round game against Texas is brutal, and St. Mary's isn't anyone to look down on either. But the Dance is the Dance - it'll be fun no matter what happens.
Go Canes!!

The guys on ESPN picked St Mary's to beat the Canes in the first round.
It's nice to know that ESPN's prejudice against the Canes is not just in football. I have no clue why they hate us so much.

Hey lets just enjoy this its been awhile. We'll see what happens on Friday. The guys at ESPN are just talking heads, they don't know squat.

SFCane, Miami has done nothing to show anyone that they are a legit shot to make the Sweet 16, or even the Round of 32. St. Mary's was ranked all year and is a solid club. The Canes are inconsistent and have struggled of late. I think we can beat the Gaels but I wouldn't be surprised with a loss. I doubt there is ESPN bias in those picks.

Aldo, agree but also consider college bball, anyone can win on a given night. The Canes beat Duke, that should show that they can beat elite competition. They just need to play well, we'll see...

WOOOOOW, MIAMI GETS A 7TH SEED IN THE TOURNAMENT, AND THIS IS THE BEST TURNOUT ON "EYE ON THE U"--AKA "MANNY'S BLOG"--FOR THIS MONUMENTAL EVENT. MAN, WHAT ARE THEY GONNA BLAME ME FOR THIS TIME?

Son, that's b/c UM will always first and foremost be about football. Second, baseball, third, BB. Although, if the boys show up and play respectabily and into at least the round of 16, I'd say, things may begin to change. Regardless, this was a good (not great) year. They should have beat Winthrop, they should have taken one from FSU, and surely they should have beaten VT at the ACC tournament. The NCstate loss early inthe season was atrocious. But they put together some nice runs.
They clearly need to play smarter and shoot better. If jack aint "on" the others (Hurdle, Dews) need to step up. That hasn't happened, nor has the viceversa happened. If they all play together, some strange $$$$ can happen. Go CANES.

I agree with SF Cane. There is something clearly fishy about how ESPN covers the canes. It is no longer paranoia on our part. It is sooooooooooooo obvious in football. I mean Lee Corso despises the canes. So does beano Cook since we used to whoop on his beloved Irish. Trent Alberts used to clearly hate Miami and would always lambast us. Most recently, mark Mays and the other idiot that narrates CFB have been on the bandwagon. They literally came out of their suits when UM and FIU went at it. Now, what's this? and if you recall, all of last week, it was all coverage about the gators this nad the gators that, and ESPN.com had as its cover story the gators loss, but nothing or very little about the ACC. That's how it was in football. They creamed themselves about the SEC butthey always hated on the ACC. why is that?
Just know, that the ACC in reality should have at least 6 teams in. Vat Tech and maryland should be in instead of georgia and Mississipi State. ga got in only because the SEC sucks and they won the conference. How? The same way Tiger Woods wins: EVERYONE ELSE SUCKS!

Man none of these so called smart analyst are picking UM to even beat st. mary's.. im hoping that this is the year that FH can put the basketball team on the map so nationally we can get some respect as being more then a football and baseball team...

JAime,
I gotta say that you have aright to your opinion but leave Tiger out of it. He is not winning tournaments shooting par.

I know we're going to be in a dogfight in this game, but we need to get on Jack's back and take us as far as we can go in this tournament. I think we win this game by 7-10 points.

We should beat St. Mary's, Texas is going 2 b a horse of a different color. Even if we lose to the Long Horns (I think we CAN beat them), but with a win against St. Mary's it will be a very good season for UM. Congrats coach Haith and team. All those who said that the new AD's first job should be top replace Haith were are you all now!! Give a good coach a few years to get his players in and implement his system and you will reap the benefits. I think if we get considerably better over the next few years and become a mainstay in the tournament, our issue may be keeping coach Haith from going to a traditional basketball power.

Manny...anything on football???
JAime : U gotta be one of the dumbest people on the planet if U think Tiger Woods wins because every other golfer sucks

I just wanted to post my congrats to the UM basketball team. If anything I hope they don't feel the pressure of carrying the entire South Florida sports nation on their backs since we have nothing else to root for at this time (except maybe UM baseball). I am glad they gave Frank a chance to prove himself as a coach. He is young and I hope that we can build off the momentum of this season with the Hoops team and get ourselves to that next level by 2010 (where we are competing for a top seed in the Tournament). Way to go guys. Also, I hope that this raises the bar for our Football Team. Time to get back to a bowl game fella's!
