Live Q&A at 7 p.m.

I never got around to giving you my thoughts on Saturday's spring game because I was a little tied up with other assignments -- the IndyCar 300 (Saturday night) and the Marlins opener on Monday. So, since most of that analysis may be a little stale, I've decided to do a Live Q&A segment tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. where I thought we could discuss it.

That being said, with football -- the official live blood of Eye On The U -- now on hiatus until the fall, I wanted to get some ideas from you guys on how we can keep this blog going. Obviously, we will have Canes baseball to discuss (even though I hardly cover the team) and I'm sure there will be offseason news on both football and basketball (which I do cover extensively). But I wonder if it will be enough. So, I need your help. Any other ideas and suggestions are welcome. Feel free to leave them below along with your questions for tonight.

See you at 7.

Maybe you could turn the blog into kind of like a tabloid.

Just follow the players around stalking them and then report on your findings. Take pictures of their girlfriends, who they're hanging out with, weight issues, drug problems, etc.

That'd be real entertaining.

^^^ LMAO

Whats your take on Tampa Plant TE Orson Charles?? I heard he finally got a Canes offer yesterday. My coworker's son played ball with him before he transfered over there from Riverview. She said he's been a Canes fan for quite a while.

Other questions...
1) If you had to give MVP's for this years spring game (offense/defense), who would get it and why?
2) Who was the most imprived player this spring (offense/defense)?
3) Which of the 9 new players had the biggest impact in spring training?
4)Out of all the incoming freshmen, who do you look forward to seeing play in the fall the most?
5)Any recruiting updates?

Also...
6) Now that spring training is over, what training practices do the enrolled players take part in to keep themselves in shape for fall?
7)Who is expected to arrive for any summer activities?

Hey Manny

Do have any insight on who haith is going to use that scholorship on? Can Daquan Jones or whatever his name take on the role of scorer and not a shooter.

Manny, are you going to do any Spring superlatives? Most improved. Biggest Surprise and all that?

Manny-

Blog is great. Like the information that you get out to us. Thank you for all the hard work. Know the summer is long and news is not prevalent, but how about a "where are they now segment". We all know where the recent UM studs are (mostly NFL). What about some of the other names those of us outside of SF may not have heard about for awhile.

It is always interesting how the older guard views this new wave of players, especially now with Shannon in charge

Could be some good stories, especially for some of those former canes that have fallen from the national spotlight. Certainly keep the banter going

Manny , I would say by mirroring the blogs, canesport, canestime and I on the U. in your own creative and personal way would draw interst all through the off season.

Manny missed your podcast hope you do another one.
Also what is the news on Joe Wyile and Futch?

Not really a question about the 'Canes but really just a suggestion for Manny.

You should consider using the "Cover It Live" software from www.coveritlive.com

For now, it's free and it is a nice to use for Q&A's. It's easier to find your responses and the moderator get's to pick which questions appear on the app. Check it out.

Manny, its gonna be tough with a limited news flow, my suggestion is keep the recruiting tidbits coming (bball and fb) and unless im mistaken you never finished the position by position analysis for the upcoming football season. Also you could do the same with the bball team. Keep up the good work!

Manny,

When does fall practice begin?

--Also, just want to mention the good job you do on keeping us as informed as possible when it comes to the "U".

How about each week, taking each of the Canes opponents on the schedule and reviewing their Spring development. That will bring us 12 weeks closer to opening Fall.....Thanks Manny

How is Jacory dealing with all reports saying he is second?

How's Arthur Brown doing? I saw his stats the other day, but other than that we haven't heard much from him.

Manny, good job. Recruiting tid bits will be essential to keep the interest up. How about a snippet (Blustein can comment as well) on each recruit. Stating the pro and cons about them. I know it is like watching a soap opera but it is very interesting to readers. Occasional interview with players and recruits also can be milked to no end.

One thing I haven't seen much of are what the family of the recruits think of their son or bro as a Cane's player. You can throw that in there.

I.e, what would Bailey's dad say about what his son said about hunting in the Island in relation to what Bailey said.

Not pure football, but at least we can know what makes them tick. Clues to greatness, is how I would title it.

Suggestion:

I remember there being a position by position breakdown of the team going into spring ball, but I only remember reading the QBs and D-Line. Was that ever completed? I'd be interested to read more of that, even from the post-spring perspective (possibly more interesting from the post-spring perspective). Could also do a few pieces on the Miami players as they go through the NFL draft and the weeks leading up to it. Not sure if you could pull the strings for possibly having a few of them post blog entries of their experiences, but that'd be interesting as well. Or how about a blog from the incoming freshmen on life at UM this spring?

Question:

I'm relatively new to your blog, but I get the impression you have been around Miami football for a little while. I know there's a lot of hype about the team right now, and honestly the fans are wearing rose tinted glasses all the time. How would you asses the teams performance this spring from what you saw, honestly? Is there another UM team you might compare it to? It's not much to say that they looked better than last season, is there a more specific season you might compare this team to in terms of how the talent you saw in the spring?

Hey Manny!

We had a topic about our cheerleaders looks on canespace.1word DAMN!!!!
Has they been a drop off on our Um Cheerleaders? Did you see them....ewwww Who has the best cheerleaders for college football?Do we need to comb the whole south beach, groves, boca, west palm,ft.lauderdale areas for our own team?

HEY MANNY! Whats the word on this CB Darrell Givens kid? i hear Miami is his dream school and he was at the spring game and loved it..ANY THOUGHTS?

Q: Whats your take on Tampa Plant TE Orson Charles?? I heard he finally got a Canes offer yesterday. My coworker's son played ball with him before he transfered over there from Riverview. She said he's been a Canes fan for quite a while. Posted by: BBrinkley | April 01, 2008 at 03:05 PM

A: Don’t know much about Charles other than the fact he’s a stud. I’ll ask Larry Blustein about him.

Sup Manny?
How's the Family? Great I hope.
Did U see the same Unity and Enthusiasm I saw? 86 and I were there for Canespace...

Q: If you had to give MVP's for this years spring game (offense/defense), who would get it and why? Posted by: BBrinkley | April 01, 2008 at 03:05 PM

A: I kind of it did it like the NHL does it – my three stars of the game were running back Graig Cooper and linebackers Sean Spence and Arthur Brown. Cooper for obvious reasons – two touchdowns and nine long runs. Spence had two interceptions and was all over the field making plays. Brown led the team in tackles and chased down Shawnbrey McNeal on the 66-yard screen pass and saved a touchdown.

UCLA has some hot cheerleaders.

Hey Manny its been a minute but I need your opinion.

Q. Most people including me left that game with questions about the O-lines pass blocking. Why is it that the the O-line that didnt pass block very well was able to pin our highly touted D-Line/Linebackers so well on running plays?

Also what are your thoughts on Randy saying this is the first time all spring he has seen the receivers/running backs drop passes like that and then some of the players saying having the crowd there changes things? Is it possible we may have some boys with stage fright, or maybe getting a little to over amped to fully concentrate? And may that have been the problems with the dropped balls last year?

Q: Who was the most improved player this spring (offense/defense)? Posted by: BBrinkley | April 01, 2008 at 03:05 PM

A: Offensively, I’d say a couple guys. Offensive guard Christopher Barney has gone from doing absolutely nothing in his first three years to actually participating and practicing with the first team. Then, I’d say Cooper. He looked bigger, stronger and faster. Track season certainly helped. Defensively, I’d say it was Allen Bailey and DeMarcus Van Dyke. Bailey has gone from being a backup at linebacker to the star of the defensive line. Van Dyke, who was a toothpick last season, is weighing around 185 and looks stronger and like a future star. I really thought he did a great job in coverage.

Q. Manny any bball recruiting updates?

Manny, any news about Haith getting an extension done with UM?

Q: Which of the 9 new players had the biggest impact in spring training? Posted by: BBrinkley | April 01, 2008 at 03:05 PM

A: Without question its Spence. He’s looked like the best linebacker/player on the field at times this spring. I’d say the other three Northwestern guys have done well, so too has Patrick Hill. Brown finally broke through in the spring game.

Q: Out of all the incoming freshmen, who do you look forward to seeing play in the fall the most? Posted by: BBrinkley | April 01, 2008 at 03:05 PM

A: Aside from the nine guys already in, I really want to see what Brandon Harris, Laron Byrd, Tommy Streeter, Jordan Futch and Vaughn Telemaque look like. Those along with the two defensive tackles, Micanor Regis and Jeremy Lewis are the guys I think can have an impact this coming season. But I think in the end the two freshmen who you will see the most contributions from are Aldarius Johnson and Sean Spence.

If Robert Marve turns out to be the real deal, an all-acc QB starting this year and for the next 4, what do you think the future then holds for Jacory Harris?

Q: Any recruiting updates? Posted by: BBrinkley | April 01, 2008 at 03:05 PM

A: Can’t say I really have any. I haven’t been as fixated on it because of UM’s basketball run and the end of spring ball. But I’ll pick up the intensity once high school spring football gets underway in the next month. Plus, I’m sure Larry will have a lot of good insight.

Q: Now that spring training is over, what training practices do the enrolled players take part in to keep themselves in shape for fall? Who is expected to arrive for any summer activities? Posted by: BBrinkley | April 01, 2008 at 03:10 PM

A: Guys basically work out with strength and conditioning coach Andreu Swasey and train with each other or by themselves. I know several of the signees are planning on arriving for summer classes.

Q: Do have any insight on who haith is going to use that scholorship on? Can Daquan Jones or whatever his name take on the role of scorer and not a shooter. Posted by: zac | April 01, 2008 at 03:13 PM

A: Still no updates on who that last scholarship will go to other than the fact I no longer believe Devin Ebanks will be that guy. I think there is a chance Haith could hold onto it. Jones is a guy who drives to the basket, dunks and scores. He's more than a shooter.

In the latest ESPN mock (Kiper), KP and CC are both out of the first round. Is this a shock to you? Do you feel it was worth it for them to leave or would they have been better served playing out their senior seasons?

Q: Manny, are you going to do any Spring superlatives? Most improved. Biggest Surprise and all that? Posted by: Esteban | April 01, 2008 at 03:51 PM

A: Yes. I'm planning on doing a position by position breakdown. I couldn't do it before the spring like I had planned to (limited access). But now I'll have a post spring breakdown.

Q)Do you think UM's basketball success will bring in any solid recruits for that program as well as any other sport at UM? I recall Terrell Pryor initially wanted a school with multiple sports that were strong. UM currently has basketball and baseball with football making a comeback.

Didn't see and answer to the Question about the last Scholi and Coach Haiths extention

Q) Weren't there a couple position changes on the football team? I heard the bigger receiver Daniel Adderly was moved to TE and to expect the same for Streeter and/or Futch. Any other movers besides them and Bailey??

Posted by: Ibis 13 | April 01, 2008 at 03:56 PM

A: Thanks for the suggestion Ibis. I'll see what I can do with that.

With the safety play being pretty average in the spring, is there any chance Damien Berry (who we did not really hear about this spring), Telemaque, Cookie Buchanan, or Holton see the field for significant time? If so, which guy?

your Breakout Player on offense = ?
your Breakout Player on defense = ?

Not to pollute your board with a certain name that often brings shudders to some, but the son of that UM tackle that chose UF a few months back was moved to defensive end like I predicted after I saw how rail thin he was. He also apparently had some bad karma and tore something in shoulder bad enough to require surgery. Just an FYI!

Q: Manny missed your podcast hope you do another one. Also what is the news on Joe Wylie and Futch? Posted by: WI Cane | April 01, 2008 at 04:13 PM

A: Larry B and I are planning to pick up the podcats soon. With high school spring football set to begin soon, we'll have plenty of content. Wylie is taking care of that class he needs to get into school on time. Futch has been training on his own, doing the same things his teammates have been doing and preparing to enroll for the summer semester.

A: Thanks for the suggestion Ted. I'll check it out and see if we can use it.

Q) Which of the incoming freshmen not there for spring do you anticipate to seriously compete for a starting spot OR rotating in with those currently enrolled??

Q: Manny, its gonna be tough with a limited news flow, my suggestion is keep the recruiting tidbits coming (bball and fb) and unless im mistaken you never finished the position by position analysis for the upcoming football season. A: Definiely planning on doing the position by position analysis now that the spring is over I got access. Good idea with the hoops team.

Q: When does fall practice begin? Also, just want to mention the good job you do on keeping us as informed as possible when it comes to the "U". Posted by: Savitza | April 01, 2008 at 05:29 PM

A: Not sure of the exact date, but I would assume the beginning of August.

Q: How about each week, taking each of the Canes opponents on the schedule and reviewing their Spring development. That will bring us 12 weeks closer to opening Fall.....Thanks Manny Posted by: HearAcane | April 01, 2008 at 05:30 PM

A: Not a bad idea at all. Maybe I'll do that in July.

Q) Do you think UM's football team will earn some votes this season when the initial rankings come out? If not, and you had to pick a number, where would you "guesstimate" them to be ranked?

Q: How is Jacory dealing with all reports saying he is second? Posted by: IndianapolisCane | April 01, 2008 at 05:37 PM

A: Jacory doesn't pay attention to it. He's a kid who is so focused on himself and getting better, he doesn't let anything negative bring him down.
