Couldn't find a Cane? Neither could I. So, if someone deserved to be up on the list who should it be and why? My vote would go to Jason Fox. But there wouldn't be much argument after that. Just more evidence of how far The U has fallen. If I'm Randy Shannon I'm posting this list up in every locker with a sign that says 'Nobody believes any of you are any good.' Last year, Derrick Morse, Calais Campbell and Kenny Phillips were selected to the team.
By the way, Clemson quarterback Cullen Harper was voted the Preseason Player of the Year.

RE: Rumors...
A source at UM tells me it's not looking great for Zach Kane either at this point. He also said Miami will be at 85 scholarships. Not sure if that means two other vets we don't know about won't be there. That source also said he expected CJ Holton and Ben Jones to qualify for the fall.

I love the fact that no Canes were selected to the All-ACC team!!! I hope they pin these up everywhere.

Thanks Manny. The media always does us a favor, one way or another. lol
Posted by: Cavaleer | July 23, 2008 at 08:37 PM
All-ACC team? After a 5 win season we don't deserve it, Miami should earn it by winning not reputation. Keep viewing that list and get mad but win games!
Now go kick some a**!!!!

Oye Manolo, what's the deal with the new on campus basketball practice facility. Isn't it supposed to be done by the beginning of the basketball season this year? I'm on campus every day to work out at the wellness and it looks like they barely have the foundation in. Is it behind schedule? I know the basketball guys are easier to get in contact with than the football ones so I figured it wouldn't be too hard for you to get word back on that. Thanks dude.

I am shocked and appalled by the lack of consideration our fine student-athletes have been given by this poll.
I mean, its not like we've lost 13 games the past 2 seasons, or got beat by 48 at home a couple of games ago.
Oh.
Never mind.
Posted by: Mephistopheles | July 24, 2008 at 10:13 AM
Telemaque is enrolled and taking classes already

What about Javaris James for all conference? 2 years ago he was supposed to be the next McGahee. Now, he's a side note trivia item (who is Edgerin's cousin?). I say he has a break out year. It can be done in a 2 back system, even if Cooper explodes. Edge did this very thing ten years ago ('98) when Jackson was a ligtening bolt off the bench. Jackson would hit a few homeruns, but Edge still handled the work load and the 200yd + rushing totals. He left early after that year for No. 5 in the draft.
Manny, when are they going to post the 08/09 Basketball schedule?

What's up with all of these academic requirements!!! Why can't these kids get a waiver from UM and some tutoring? Whatever happened to sink or swim. Damn schools in Miami-Dade...aren't kids more important than a baseball stadium!!!
Do they have to pay to go to prep school? UM did commit to giving them an education did they??? These guys can make valuable contributions to UM that other students can't. They should be allowed to start school and UM should arrange for tutoring to get them up to speed.

Zach Kane couldn't wait one more week to start cracking heads!!!! If not, did he really have to use a bottle to hit someone??? I don't have all the facts, but it seems pretty hard to defend.
Hope his scholarship doesn't get pulled, we need the depth on defense.
$20K bail!!!

I hope that Coach Shannon and the football staff closely monitors the players that will be attending Milford Prep this year and can bring in at least one if not all 3 players back to the U and as for none of the players being voted all-acc, throw up the finger to our mouths and tell the acc SHHHHH !!!

The last conversation I had with UM brass about it -- the day that the McDonald's All-American games were announced to be taking place here -- I was told October was the likely time when it would be ready for use. I haven't driven by the site of late. But I will after tonight's game.

what's the deal on Tommy Streeter? No one seems to be talking about him. He was a big part of Northwestern's run. Is he not going to put the current UM WRs for playing time?

No experience QB's will be world beaters right? Miami's no depth paper thin Dline will dominate right? Stay on your terribly written site and beat the drum over there. HOMER
Homer defines as someone whose perception of reality is clouded by their completely subjective love of their team

Sorry to say this guys, but the Kane stuff you're hearing is true. Too bad, he's a hell of a football player.

To 86Cane,
None of us realized you were such a delicate flower, so willing to wilt under the sun that Green's innocent comments would form. A tender sprout of a boy, an upshoot of growth eagerly awaiting the day when the Weed Whacker of circumstance would take away all that makes you a man.
We all weep for you 86. For your hopes and dreams, for your strength and conviction. For what waits for you in this world is far more harsh, more destructive and far, far more willing to find every weakness in the depths of your soul and exploit you into a shell.
No 86. A life with Green is not so bad when compared with what waits for you in this long journey we call life.

I am pretty good at being dead wrong and clueless about sports in general. Please don't laugh too hard out loud as you note my level of ignorance from the 2007 season.
I look foward to keeping everyone entertained during the upcoming season with more of my asinine comments, thoughts, and predictions......it's no longer all about Duhhhhh U!!!
Spurrier was the head coach at UF in 1987 because I saw him on the sideline, Major Wright & Deonte Thompson both play on offense for the Gators, Deonte Thompson called Randy Shannon and actually transferred to Dau but was then denied by Admissions, Alex Smith was the star cornerback for the Gators national championship team, Ryan Smith was the QB Heisman Candidate under Meyer at Utah, Tebow won’t win the Heisman because he padded his stats when it wasn’t necessary, DaU was only 91 points away from playing in the ACC Championship game or in a post season Orange Bowl game against the Turds even though both were guaranteed to happen, Charlie Strong was really fired in a noon presser however Urban Meyer just rehired in a 12:01pm presser that no one covered, the Canes will end up with a consensus #1 Recruiting Class while the Turds won’t even break the Top 10, Randy Shannon has every team in the nation locked out of South Florida, better make that just Urban Meyer is locked out…….better make that just Urban Meyer is locked but excluding the Hallandale area, PJ still can still change his mind and sign with DaU, Pittsburgh finished third in the nation in pass efficiency in 2006, Joakim Noah will end up getting kicked off the Pistons if he keeps arguing with his teammates, Brad Henne played QB for Michigan, James Wilson was the overall #2 Recruit on Rivals in 2006, DaU will be a 2 or 3 seed in the NCAA tournament, and last but not least a future guarantee that Randy Shannon will be nominated coach of the year and DaU will win their sixth ‘ship in 2008.

Atleast U have 85 guys on the All-ACC 12th. Team.

Beating Florida... from my vantage point, is like standing at the base of a mountain in Colorado and looking up. Far away in the distance, the trees look like blades of grass, but as you get closer, you then realize that the blades of grass are monster 100 foot trees and you come to realize that when you compare the statistics, the task is nearly impossible.
Can we beat Florida? Sure, anything is possible, if we play a perfect game, if our new QB's catch fire, if Coop and JJ have the game of their life, if the receivers and TE's become super human, if the O and D lines become building, if the LB's and CB's and DB's play like hungry lions, tigers and bears and lastly Special Teams play special...
But in comparison, they have more maturity and experience on their side. If Tebow and Harvin are healthy, they will be a tough combination to stop. Last year they averaged 45 points a game. Their lowest scoring game was 17 and they had 4 games in the 50's... but their strongest asset is Tebow... If we slow him down, then we have a chance to catch up.
This year, their weakest link appears to be the Safety's and DB's and they do not have allot of depth at other key positions... We will get opportunities but the point is that we must make them pay for their mistakes and score when they come.
The game will come down to turn overs... and give us a couple of INT's or Fumbles, there is no telling what can happen with a team who believes in themselves
Can we beat them?... The odds will say we can't but how many times have we beaten the odds before...

What's going on Manny? Is Brandon Harris still a commit? UM football is right around the corner! It's a beautiful time of the year! Keep the faith! Miami will be fine! I still think they will win the ACC! They are flying way below the radar like i said they would. I actually thought Jason Fox, Colin McCarthy, Eric Moncur should of made the list! What are you going to do? Don't worry Canes fans Miami will have a world of talent! Marve and Harris will both shine! I love the attitudes of the incoming freshmen! I love Miami's underated running game with Cooper and James! Orlando Franklin will be a stud! Marcus Forston will be the man! Antonio Dixon will surprise! Miami's LB's Spence, McCarthy, Brown, Cook will kick Ass! Joe Joe Nicholas will surprise! McKenzie, Streeter, Hankerson, Johnson & Johnson will a fresh breath of air! Bailey will be a Monster! Get it in your heads! Repeat after me "It's great to be a Miami Hurricane! GO Canes!!!!!!!

Too reiterate a point that's already been proven over and over again by the stats alone, ie not opinions......the Canes latest down turn is mainly due to the fact that they actually face competitive teams now. If the Gators were an independent or played in the Big Easy for as long as Duhhhhh U did they would have 15+ Titles by now.
Look at Coker's 3 years in the Big Easy vs. his 3 years in the ACC. There's a "slight" difference in W's and L's.
And now this just in from your own former head coach, on comparing the ACC to the Big Easy.
"From a coach's standpoint, it's extraordinarily competitive," said North Carolina coach Butch Davis. "There were years I coached in the Big East (with Miami) and it was basically get ready for one game. Outside of that, it was pretty much a cakewalk."

Ummmmm - wake up buddie. Forget turnovers, I'll spot you 4 TDs and it still won't come close to resembling a competitive game.
