Hi Manny,
Has Brandon caught up with everyone?
If he is stopping our slot receivers at practice like rumored do you see him playing more than everyone thought

peace

Do you see T.Benj or D.johnson being a percy harvin or preston parker this season or the future?

Q: Manny, How solid of a commitment is Oliver Vernon? Also, is Orsen Charles still hanging around? What are the biggest changes that Nix has made with the playcalling now that he's actually got some weapons on O. Is it safe to say he's on the hot seat? Peace Posted by: DAU | August 12, 2008 at 08:22 PM

A: I think Vernon is still going to end up at Miami. But it's going to be a process in which he makes the Canes wait a while before making a final decision. Schools are definitely romancing him. Charles went home after the opening weekend. I haven't heard much on him since. Regarding Nix, I think he's going to be given the benefit of the doubt. His offense simply has to get better since there is more talent on the team. I think if the offense does worse than it did last year, then you might hear some rumblings. But I think that's almost impossible.

M... have you studied Charleston and if so, what is your take on the game?
Cat

I'm thinking... 250 yards running and 300 passing

Q: Javariss James, any chance he gets into the Heisman disscussion this year Manny, especially if UF goes down in the Swamp? Posted by: orange 'n green in the vein | August 12, 2008 at 08:25 PM

A: He could OGV. But his biggest obstacle isn't UF in the swamp it's Graig Cooper. He's going to be splitting the work. He'll just never post the numbers he needs to unless Cooper were to get injured. And even then, I'm sure Shannon would mix Derron and a few other guys to ease some of the workload. Very long odds.

Q: Manny can you comment on the change in defensive philosophies this year from Miami's typical cover 2 man to Young's zone blitz. Does it seem like the team is adjusting well (I know the guys are saying its easier to learn but are they doing it well is a different story) Posted by: shwarma | August 12, 2008 at 08:28 PM

A: Hey Schwarma. It's hard to classify exactly what kind of defense Miami is going to have since none of us have really had a chance to speak with Bill Young since the fall began (I do believe the Palm Beach Post did score an interview because they're doing a feature on him). But from what I hear from the players and from what I saw in the spring, this is a defense that takes chances and is built to make plays. You will see more blitzes -- and if all goes according to plan, you will see more turnovers. Lately in practice, we've been hearing the defense has been dominating. And every day we hear about interceptions. I don't think that's so much the fault of the quarterbacks, but the defense creating tips and opportunities. We'll see exactly what this defense is Aug. 28.

Q: Do you know if any of the coaches visited any others in the off season to learn? That is huge to me, maybe some NFL teams or other college coaches around the nation. Nix would benefit the most as he is still relatively young and heads alot of young talent. If you don't know can you find out? Thanks in advance. Posted by: PimpT | August 12, 2008 at 08:30 PM

A: I'll try to find out for you PimpT. But I'm pretty sure Randy sent his coaches everywhere to learn from others. It's tradition. He's done it in the past. It's a good question. I'll ask.

Q: Manny, I am jusy wondering what to expect from Young's defense. Should we expect alot more blitzing than in the past, or just a different style of blitzing? More man to man or zone? Posted by: PcolaCane | August 12, 2008 at 08:30 PM

A: Answered this one a little earlier PCola. Check it out.

Manny thanks for the take on JJ, is Bosher going to be allowed to handle more than one kicking duty this year after the coaching staff stating such responsibilities shouldn't be left in a freshmen's hands last season despite him being the only kicker D-1 worthy on the roster?

OK guys, I'm taking a break for dinner. I'll be back later tonight to answer the rest of them. Feel free to leave a few more. Thanks for participating and sorry I couldn't get to all of them in an hour. There was a lot to cover.

Manny,
Keep up the good work. Whats up with A.Johnson? seems like some of the other frosh are taking up most of the shine...is he still producing? Possible starter?

Keep up the great job Manny for informing the CANE NATION on our CANES! Can you tell us what is going on with the true freshmen (WR) Tommy Streeter? There isn't much talk about him, and we all would like to know what's is going on with him! His size alone 6'5, 202lbs. puts him in great shape with a DB! Can you fill us in?
Thanks for your time!
GO CANES!!

sorry for the multiple posts...typepad is messing with me....

Hello Manny and thank you for your insight. Any thoughts on our new venue and if you have any information on season ticket sales? I hope we are playing in front of a packed house and have as much as a home field advantage as the Orange Bowl.

hey manny i already asked you this question but i wanted to know your thoughts about the GAYtors injury ACL problem and our chances of stealing one in that nasty swamp...Thanks bro your the man

The nylon scully DrtyCane. I'll take the do-rag if i can't get the scully. Beggars can't be choosers!

Hey Manny, thanks for the great coverage. Any idea on how Marcus Robinson has looked? He seems to be a perfect fit for coach Young's hybrid/rover role.

Also, we havn't heard much about Harland Gunn. I know he RS last year. He was suppose to be a beast. Do you have any update on how he is doing? Thanks.

Hey manny,
great work with the audio and video.

1. do you think that we still might recruit frankie telfort?

2. Why aren't we recruting jaamal berry? is it grades?

3. do think jacory harris has an advantage over marve in that jacory has a real close bond with all the dade kids? do you think the players may respond to jacory better?

How is the secondary coming along? It seems like they're the forgotten group of this team.

Appreciate it manny, Keep up the good work, like to see a fellow bulldog do his thing ;-)

Manny...86 here signing in late from Key Largo, what's up?

U said: "At best, I say they go 9-3. And that's with everything falling into place."

Posted by: Manny Navarro | August 12, 2008 at 08:58 PM

Yeah, 9-3, that's what all the "experts" are saying! LOL

Manny...just for the record I predicted a 9-3 season for the Canes this year and I have been trying to convince everyone that it shall be.

Not too many takers but I am with you on 9-3 IF everything falls in place.

GO CANES!!!

Will the Char. So. game be televised locally or are we stuck with ESPN 360?

Which qtback is the best at handling the blitz? What makes you belief that the Oline is the strength of the team. They have looked so so for a number of yrs.

Hey Manny...great job with all the posts, you're gonna have a great season.

I hear Randy Shannon saying that last year is in the past and that its forgotten, has this been your obervation amongst the players? Is there any desire to get back at UVA for the 48-0 and anyone else we lost to last season?

More yardage this year - Javarris James or Graig Cooper?

Hey Manny, what's up with Cannon and Taylor at QB? Are they getting snaps in practice and in the scrimmage? I haven't heard anything on their progress. And on offense what do you think our offensive idenity look like a shotgun spread, power running and pass off of play action or a combo of both. Keep the news coming only 15 more days to go!!!!!

Whuz up Manny... Thanks for all the hard work you put into your reporting. In your opinion what games does Miami have to win in order to break into the top 25 this year.

Q. Do you see T.Benj or D.johnson being a percy harvin or preston parker this season or the future?

Posted by: Stephen | August 12, 2008 at 09:01 PM

A. I hope not, Percy is always hurt!

Do you or Susan have any observations or direct feedback from the players on how they are taking to Coach Nix--his style and his offense? And if players are talking positive do you sense it is genuine or they are just telling us what we want to hear?

It is quite clear from the msg boards that Coach Nix does not inspire much confidence from the fans (though most agree he was working behind the eight ball last year).

Thanks.

Retard

If the offense struggles this year again, is Nix's job on the line? With all these fast wideouts, and Jacory and Marve running spread offenses in high school, how come Nix isn't changing some things around, or is he? Will we see more five wide looks?

I know the U loves to run, but maybe we need to get with the times and get the ball into the hands of our playmakers.

If the offense struggle this year again, SHANNON'S job is on the line.

I'm hoping the offensive play calling, doesn't suck.

I had that same prediction of a 9-3 season. And one of those losses wont be against Florida!!

What are you talking about O-town? Florida is gonna wipeout UM. Huge mismatch there.

I saw somebody say earlier that Marve got in trouble last year, what was that about?? who were the players that we have allegedly got rid of from last year that had such a negative impact on the attitude of the team?

Im curious on the Huge mismatch you are talking about? What positions are a huge mismatch? Ok you got Tebow who only has more experience cuz he definitely doesnt have more talent than our very own Robert Marve who broke all his records in high school. Im not even worried about Harvin, one big hit hes done for the game. And mark this down, UF hasnt played a team with our speed yet, not even FSU. And im sorry if Michigan can beat UF,we can beat UF.
