Murphy's message received

University of Florida receiver Louis Murphy had something special to say about The U after the Gators' season-opening win against Hawaii Saturday. Consider it the first real shot in a war of words that will likely continue this week leading up to the showdown in the Swamp.

Louis_murphy
"If I'm right, the 'U' stands for the University of Miami," Murphy told our Joseph Goodman after the game (CLICK HERE TO LISTEN). "Well, we're the University of Florida. We're the 'U.' I don't refer to them as the 'U.' I refer to them as Miami. If the 'U' is for university and winning and championships, we're the 'U.' They are Miami, and that's what I call them."

Let's just say the message has been received. I spoke with UM receiver Leonard Hankerson tonight for a feature story I'm doing on him and close friend Major Wright, who starts at safety for the Gators and who played with Hankerson at Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas High.

Hankerson said when he arrived at UM Sunday night for a practice closed to the media, a copy of Murphy's quote had been blown up and posted in every locker. "It definitely pumped us up," Hankerson said by phone. "We were already pumped up for this game, but now the guys are really getting excited.

"We all want to win bad. Right now, we feel like nobody in the nation respects Miami. We're going to earn our respect."

I don't know about you, but I can't wait for this game on Saturday.

PS - For those of you wondering who Louis Murphy is, he's the guy who starts opposite Percy Harvin. He had 37 catches for 548 yards and 6 TDs last season. He had 2 catches for 51 yards and 1 touchdown against Hawaii. And he's a Recreation Event Management major from St. Petersburg.

Miami will be zephyrs not hurricanes in Gainesville. End of story.

Posted by: Williz | September 01, 2008 at 03:07 PM

Sounds like someone just studied zephyr for their SAT prep class. Awwwww. That's so cute!

Pathetic, as usual.

boise state must suck. they beat oklahoma, but the play in a bad conference

DAMN THEY SUCK

The gator will be turned in to crocodiles. End of Story. Lol

Yea if you dont play in the SEC you automatically suck, didnt you guys know? lol

Effin Joke!

If Miami is not The U then why was Miami your top school, you dumb@ss? That scrub wanted to be a Cane, the Canes just didn't want him.

Out of St. Petersburg's Lakewood High, Louis Murphy had the Hurricanes at the top of his want list four years ago. Except Miami never called.

"I wanted to go there," he said. "That was my top school. You know, when I was coming out they were loaded. They were actually good. I wanted to go there and be part of that receiving crew. But we have our receiving crew now here. Payback, you know."

Sorry @ss Gators. Even your own players wish they were Canes.

Yeah I mean what recruit would not want to go to Miami. Go to a school with a coach in way over his head and will probably be fired within 3 years. Play in front of a high school sized crowd on a baseball dirt field. Only get on TV when you play someone within the top 10. Have joke facilities and a joke of a campus. Play in the ACC which should get you ready for the Arena football league and not the NFL. Sounds like a deal to me. Seriously, you would need the brain of a small domestic animal to pick Miami over a real college football team with a real campus and coach and atmosphere. It doesnt even have to be Florida, which would obviously be a great choice. How about LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia. Any of those schools would be a MUCH better choice than Miami.
These players will learn and lesson #1 comes on Saturday at 8 P.M.
Introduction to REAL FOOTBALL 101 and Randy Shannon better bring a lot of pencils and notepads.

Teebow is the best fullback in the SEC, bar none, the problem is he is playing out of position, and also, his as* is about twice as wide as last year, he looks slow, at least he did against Hawaii. He will have an even rougher time against the Cane defense than the 27 yards rushing and 130 yards passing he had against the Rainbows.
Hawaii just gave up a lot of cheap tds, on bad turnovers by the qb, which we know Marve and Harris will not do. And Hawaii doesn't have the power running game Da U has.
Its gonna be 2002 all over again, with Baby J and Super Coop playing the role of Willis McGehee.

Are you fvcking stupid? Miami is an NFL factory, you dumb son of a b!tch. Would you like to compare the NFL players that the Gators put in the NFL to the ones the Canes do? I didn't think so. The point is to become a better football player and excel at the next level. That is why anyone with a brain would choose Miami over UF any day.

This is coming from your own players mouth, you @sshole. He wanted to go to Miami first.

UF is favored by 22!!!!!!!! Even Vegas doesnt respect UM.

And your 'spread offense' doesnt prepare players for the NFL either.

From an article I read:
However, there is another prevailing opinion among the populous regarding which quarterback has a better chance to thrive in the professional ranks - that Stafford is better equipped for the NFL than Tebow.

So, if Tebow is considered the top college quarterback in the country, shouldn't he stand the best chance to be the top quarterback picked when he enters the NFL Draft at the end of this season or 2009?

The answer? Because Tebow manages the full-blown spread offense, a system that if used exclusively would never work in the NFL's warp-speed playground.

The spread has made a profound impact on football in the last five years. High schools throughout the country have dropped the traditional schemes, like the I-formation and the Wing-T, and embraced it.

The spread has trickled up to the college game, where it's mushroomed into the latest craze.

Teams don't necessarily need quarterbacks with Manning-like arms and bodies to make it work. Teams need quarterbacks who can run and can make routine throws.

I am talking NOW, SON, which is what a lot of Hurricane folks have a big problem with. Not 1980, not Bernie Kosar, not George Mira Jr. or even Ed Reed. Right now, today.
Miami has a head coach that shouldnt be coaching Division 1 football and the only reason he is, is because he went to Miami. They have an offensive coordinator who shouldnt even be drawing up plays in the local neighborhood football game.
If you want to be a better football player NOW, and excel at the next level you should play in the SEC. They have the best talent, the best fans, are always on TV, craziest atmospheres.
So, yes, if you want to compare Gator to Canes NFL players NOW, lets go ahead and do it.

Randy has been a head coach 1 fu*kin year!!!
What other coach has gone 5-7 and brought in the #1 recruting class? Time will tell, give him 4 more years at the most for a ring.

He was possibly the best defensive coordinator in the country at one point. You cant go by 1 year.

And if you say Gator to Canes NFL players NOW, what the f*ck do you mean? You hardly have any players in the NFL. Or do you maybe mean rookies? Either way, you CANT compare Canes and gaytors cuz there is no comparison.

If you want to be a better football player NOW, and excel at the next level you should play in the SEC. They have the best talent, the best fans, are always on TV, craziest atmospheres.

So this means nothing then?
The ACC has produced more first-round picks (25) and overall draft choices (115) than any other conference over the past three years.

As an FSU fan, i hope the Canes smack the Gators in the mouth. Murphy should know his facts before he runs his mouth. It would be a major upset, but i think these past two seasons have taught us anything is possible. And as far as NFL goes, the top two teams with the most active players and starters are FSU and Miami, respectively. The Gators are 5th or 6th, if i am not mistaken. Its not often i will say this, but Go Canes!

If the ACC has so many great players why did the SEC wax the ACC last weekend. The best ACC team (I would suspect they would have quite a few NFLers on there according to you) just got their butts handed to them by a middle of the road SEC team. So what does that say about your NFL filled ACC conference??? The SEC has the best players, teams, stadiums, atmospheres. They are loaded with speed, talent, and physical play. If you want to prepare for the NFL you want to play against the best week in and week out and the SEC is where it is.

Randy Shannon had his team QUIT on him last year. QUIT. That should just get you fired on the spot. However the Canes dont have any money. They tried to hire a budget coach and you get what you pay for. A coach who has his players QUIT on him. He is in way over his head.

Everyone seems to have a problem with talking now.
Have you heard any Gator fan talk about the last FLORIDA college football team to win a National Title? Was it the Canes?
Maybe Florida should pull out of the SEC and be an independent without a conference championship and schedule Temple, FAMU, and the likes and see how many National Titles we can get? Maybe at the same time switch Miami to the SEC and see how many times they can even win their division much less the SEC or National Title game. They cant even make the ACC championship game so my guess would be they would be the doormats of the SEC.

I like this wider format..

I recently lived in Miami for 2 years and saw maybe 5 people wearing UM hats or shirts. I wonder why everyone talks so much trash anonymously here online but can't even show their support for the home town team in Miami. Go to any city in Florida and you will see Gator gear and pride everywhere. Only when your trash like the UM and the entire Miami-Dade County will you think you have a chance to win against the GATORS!!! GO GATORS!!

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Gino Toretta just picked up the trash from my front yard. Thank God, for UM grads.

Q. Hey Manny, I haven't heard much about Ramon Buchanan, can you shed some light on him, did he even play on Thurs?

Quit fu*kin crying and making excuses!!! The SEC hasnt ALWAYS been a powerhouse and definitely not one for all the years you've been in it. Whats your excuse now? 2 Rings in 102 years, your program is NOT prestigious, what the f*ck dont you get? We are 22-9 vs the SEC, once we bulid our program back up, put us in the SEC, we arent scared of NOBODY! We dont make up some bunk a*s excuse to stop scheduling ppl unlike you guys. I got so much more respect for FSU, for a couple reasons such as the fact they were NEVER scared to schedule us, I went to the FSU/Miami game last year in Tally and their fans were nothing but respectful to us and even congratulated us after the game and shook our hands. All this with the fact that they have the SAME exact amount of titles as you, they have put many mores stars in the NFL than you and they dont come on here talkin sh*t, its respect for each other. I will NEVER understand why UiF is so high on themselves, especially when they cant back it up.

I don't have to ask, moved to Deering Bay after Jimmy Carter diluted the class community that once was Coral Gables...

Coral Gables, the soon to be mass exodus of realtors and mortgage brokers from that community that once sailed from the Port of Mariel, came to America - made a few bucks and thought $$$ automatically brought class ?? Send them all to Pelican Bay.

Miami's FB is a key...

Staying home and picking up the blitz
Being an outlet receiver
Being the big back on short yardage
Opening holes for Coop and JJ

F...UF fans anyone who doesn't like it, show up outside of Sandbar in the Grove before or after the game....I'll be there...jeans, orange shirt, MIAMI on the front, UM custom sneakers....celebrating our win.

That goes out to you CokeCanes, Canesrule (fake), and any other wannabe.

south beach, bia$#h! its called being fashion forward. we were more than sports jerseys and sneakers. we wear gucci, prada, fendi, versace! gainesville hicks idea of a designer name is 'cross colors.'

i've being quietly observing this war. gaytards, you picked the wrong battle. what makes you think you can come at us. we are goliath and you are darline (no! not even david). we are too much for you retards. this blog has being a bloodbath. you fu#$ers need a quick transition. you swallowed more than you could eat and you got your head split in two. you are being massacared on this blog. canes dont honor the mercy rule, we keep going untill you have no more pulse left. run to your own blog pages while you still have a pulse.

i want to give a shout out to my main bloggers: canechick-sexiest cane of them all, 5 rings u got em-my man, orange-the head hunter, and last but not the least, the mean GREEN-keep it coming soilder.

the cane world is the strongest. we are proud to the end and we are strong. we bleed orange and our tear is green. we never give up and we cannot be moved, let alone back down. simple, we do not care about you so much that you will not see us in your blog mouthing off. canes only care for other canes, so we stay with our own blog. evidenced by all this gaytards being here is the fact that our blog is hands down the best. i've checked out other blogs but never posted. this as good as it gets!!!!!!

Sandbar in the Grove...BAWAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I should be able to find you since you would be the only one wearing Miami gear and with the tucked in shirt with the huge GUT.
Miami fans are hysterical. Reliving the 80s. I bet the family holidays are great with all the UM men with their huge guts talking about their high school playing days and how they were all-state. A bunch of Uncle Ricos down in Miami.

It figures you would go to a bar for the Gator game because you are going to need to be numbed up for the @ss kicking the Gators are going to put on your high school girls team with their weak coach. This isnt 1980 anymore and you arent playing Temple, FAMU, Rutgers or any other weak school you used to play. This is a real football team. A team that plays good opponents like Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and has week after week of tough opponents.
When you have a tough schedule, play a championship game, and win the NC then you will have every right to talk, until then I would keep quiet.

Reading this blog is great. It was actually a great history lesson for me. Since I was only focused on who is going to win the game Sat., I really wasn't thinking about Miami winning the mythical (pre-BCS) NC 25 years ago. But after reading your blog it is now obvious. How could Florida hope to ever beat Miami with your 5 NCs, multiple NFL players, and great history. And to think that I thought it was all about the players on the field...

Here is a little glimpse of the UM offense this Saturday night.

1st down RUN
2nd down RUN
3rd down RUN
4th down PUNT

You think some punk QB is going to come into the Swamp and throw it??? The Gators will stack 8 in the box and make this guy who will be crapping in his pants beat them. Go ahead Marve beat us with your arm! Dude has no shot. And I hope that 125 lb QB from Northwestern comes in. Teach him a thing or two about REAL FOOTBALL. What happens when you cant pick on those weaker small white kids from Miami Palmetto or Miami Sunset? I surely hope you have another QB because that guy aint lasting more than 6 plays. Maybe Bernie Kosar or Vinny can suit up!

You guys really need to remove that video of Jacory Harris. It is embarrassing to have a dude that thin without any muscle on the front page of the Canes Herald site. Guy needs to hit a squat rack, maybe mix in a bench press or two. Dont the Canes have any physical, big players or are they all in the NFL? BAWAHAHHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAA

UFelon- AK-47 Ronnie Wilson...
The real Felon school... AK-47 cappin is an everyday thang!!!

UFelon- What a bunch of thugs, I guess that is why SEC fans root for each other, they have something in common.. Bunch of Thugs!!

UFelon-

I think this is what everyone in Miami should be chanting "Seven straight in 08" Yeah baby the U is back.

Yeah, 5-2.

Speaking of, didn't UM finish 5-7 last year? That's a lot of smack to be talking for a team who's QB had to sit out because he got arrested last year. Then again, UM is sort of used to that. Reminds me of the 90s.

Just remember gaytor fans, games arent played on paper!!!

How you gonna talk s*it about Marve when you've never seen him play? Maybe you can ask all the top notch florida high schools he played against.

Marves arm is stronger and more accurate than Tebows. Mark that down! He may not be as big, but hes fast as sh*t.

So go ahead and stack 8 in the box, I dare your team to do that. Our receiving core is just as good as yours, yea I said it. Benjamin, Collier, A.Johnson, Byrd (all freshman) can hang with your upperclassmen, trust!

Damn I wish I could find the video of Glades Central vs Pahokee last year, when Benjamin caught a td pass on YOUR janoris jenkins and threw the U up right in his face, s*it was classic! Maybe well just get a replay this saturday.

Damn you gaytors are gonna catch hell if you lose to a bunch of freshman, you better pray you dont f*ck up! This is your BEST chance to beat us for a LONG time.

Well, what Manny forgot to mention was Cokers sorry behind didn't offer this kid a scholarship. Now I'm as big a Canes' fan as anybody, and the past is the past, but there aren't too many people on here who wouldn't mind the numbers Murphy has put up, in a Canes' uniform.

Sorry buddy, I guess you've never been to Plant City because if you think some high school games are going to prepare your boy for the SEC, you're crunk. You're big bad freshmen are going to sh*t their pants when they get to Ben Hill Griffin stadium.

We arent scared of nobody! The majority of these kids grew up and played in Dade County, nough said.

And a forewarning for you gaytors...

Marve ran a 4.65 40 out of high school, so he probably runs 4.6 or 4.5 now, which is faster than most of your LBs, hell he's almost as fast as your WR's that you brag about. Just thought Id throw that out there, just think about that quickness and his accuracy. But I know it dont mean much to you now, you'll just have to see on saturday.

Wow all U SEC guys Tenn goes down to unranked U-C-L-A. Wow how could that happen and with a 3rd string freshman QB, not looks so good for the SEC

Okay Gaytor fans...time to start getting ready for another butt plugging by the Canes so go home and start cleaning your double wides... get all of the rusty broken down cars out of the yard, buy some more KY jelly, go to the gas station and buy your malboros and cheap beer, crank up the moonshine machine in your bathtub, go to your family reunion and pick up some chicks to bring to the party so they can watch you get your arses whooped again... most of you inbred redneck students at gaynesville today were not even born the last time that the Gaytors beat the Canes... 25 years and counting.

As for Gaytor WR Murphy - maybe we can hire him to cater the Canes' next championship victory party; assuming that he will acutally graduate from UF with a degree (given their recent history this is highly unlikely)....what is the going rate for Florida grads this year....about 6 dollars an hour?
