Signs of the Times

Jrsfront2aGeorge Richards here live from Miami Gardens Stadium where the Hurricanes begin play in just over two weeks. The Hurricanes have played here before, in the Micron and FedEx Bowls, but in a few days, this becomes the new home of UM football.

The stadium now has a few exterior signs showing off its new tenant, with the Miami U affixed to the main guard gate (pic at left, sorry about my finger in the shot!) off of Dan Marino Boulevard.

The other tenants -- Marlins, FedEx Orange Bowl and Dolphins -- also have their logos on display.

Jrsfront On the outside of the stadium, the U has also been included on parking signs along with the other tenants. UM is represented on the club level, with a mini Hall of Fame on display.

And there you go....

1st! I know it doesn't matter! LOL

Wuz good Manny, keep brining the HEAT!

Miami Gardens Stadium?

Miami Gardens Stadium?

LMAO

3rd

The other tenants -- Marlins, FedEx Orange Bowl and Dolphins -- also have their logos on display.

No logos from the other players in Duhhhhh U's "new" staidium.

STICKY & SWEET TOUR

It all starts with the coaching, doesn't matter how many falsely claimed #1 recruiting classes you land with 1/3 of the class not qualifying.

Need I mention the SEC as an example:

• Five coaches who own national championship rings. They are Steve Spurrier of South Carolina, Phillip Fulmer of Tennessee, Nick Saban of Alabama, Les Miles of LSU and Meyer himself.

• A sixth, Auburn's Tommy Tuberville, whose team went 13-0 in 2004 but did not get a chance to play for the title.

• Two more -- Mark Richt of Georgia and Bobby Petrino of Arkansas -- who have had 12-win seasons capped off by BCS bowl victories.

DEMOTE WITHIN, PROMOTE WITHIN

At this time last year, the SEC already had America's most accomplished collection of coaches. Then Miles won the national title at LSU and the league swapped out Ed Orgeron (10-25 as a college head coach) for Petrino (41-9).

That means the best just got better and the toughest just got tougher. The SEC '08 coaching colony ranks among the most accomplished of all time. "It's a Who's Who," Nutt said. "The strategy, the X's and O's, all that stuff is top of the line."

REAL TIME ADJUSTMENTS

Season tickets down to $99 or a free pair of home game tix with a test drive.

Prices & promotions not even heard of in the WAC, but prevalent right here at Duhhhhh U.

SIGN OF THE TIMES

You are a lot better camera man then reporter..... he he

How nice of Wayne to give DuhU an 8" X 10" logo on the sign. Now thats TRADITION ! I get goose bumps just waiting to have the concierge direct me to the $27 chicken sandwiches. All 30,000 of us are gonna rock this place. Hopefully the few television cameras that come to games don't show the empty (45,000) seats. Anything we can do to create a homefield advantage at the fish warehouse?

FIU & FAU ARE BEATING DUHU ON STADIUM ISSUES

But on the field the product is still lacking. A stadium never made a champion and a coach never went out and hit someone when it mattered. It's about talent and a positive atmosphere; one that you can’t' seem to find on a fan blog these days.

Sure, there are many element to a successful program. But pointing to successful areas of a program and ignoring blatant shortcomings of other areas is just sticking your head in the sand. Each program measures success in different ways. Some have upward momentum. Some don't. When you're team loses it's beloved has its historic home field leveled by a wrecking ball and has to drive across town to where you are a rental tenant, thats downward momentum. Cite all the things in the world if you like, Having no stadium to call home is a slap in the face. UCF? Stadium FIU? Stadium. FAU? Soon to have stadium. MIAMI? will play with 40,000 empty seats on satrudays. The UM fan base just doesn't show up. Couple that with the questionable Shannon coaching tenure and you have some more years of mediocrity staring at you. UM will be calling for his head before 09 rolls around. This guy is way over his head.

Hey miami fans, you stink, we gator fans are awesome. Just look at last year. You lost 7 games, we only lost 4. That makes us better.

You had to switch stadiums from the place where you won an NCAA record for most consecutive wins, we are still at the same stadium, and ours has a nickname, so we're better.

Don't look at all the times in a row that you have beat us, thats just the past. Don't look at the amount of NC that you have won compared to us - again, thats just the past. We're only concerned about this year, since we should win.

That will settle it once and for all that we are better, all we have to do is beat you this one time, with the heisman trophy winner and at home, and we can officially say we are better, because today is all that matters.

nobody is "bragging" about conferences. It's is pertinent that you guys play in the bottom feeding ACC yet talk smack. The ACC SUCKS. Buncha pansies in that conference. UM plays a pansy schedule against pansy teams.

UM SUCKS

Nobody "fears" DuhU. Not even the bottom feeders in your sorry conference.
Florida will crush you easily.
YOU SUCK

"Florida will crush you easily"

It's ok to have a dream.

seven straight in 08, yeah that's right.

Remember this florida:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykkORcuNk78

Or how about the gayor slash Berlin did for you in the peach bowl? Don't remember well this well help jog your memory

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m_Zw-te0m0

past glory/present story -

hmmm.. so then what does it mean when the "mighty" gayders from the "mighty" SEC lose six straight times to the "sucky" canes from the "sucky" conference? Miami plays a "pansy" schedule against "pansy" teams and still finds time to beat the gayders.

Last years record, tougher conference, better head coach, switching stadiums.....Seems gayder fans find every reason why the canes suck and the gayders rock - except the only one that counts - head to head. I think this may be the only time in the history of college football that a team has lost 6 straight to another team, yet has the bal*s to brag! HA!

Too funny. The gator fans are still upset that UM has gravitas with recruits.

You idiots should be upset. UM will soon be at the top of college football in a class all by themselves. You know it, and you can't take it.

Cry a river losers. Hey, canesrule, how about Mcgee telling Meyer to stick it and committing to the CANES ? Kills you, doesn't it ? Especially when Meyer only has slow midgets at CB.

Ha, ha baaaaaaa, haaa!

your TEAm sucks

your COACH reallly sucks

your NON-EXISTENT stadium sucks

your FAN BASE sucks

your CONFERENCE sucks

your PANSY schedule sucks

your non -existent DEPTH CHART SUCKS

your D-LINE really sucks

YOU SUCK

Florida will easily CRUSH your SUCKY TEAM

DUKE took you into the 4th quarter last year.....DUKE !!!!

UM SUCKS

48-0

51-13

The team QUIT on Shannon 5 quarters ago

UM SUCKS

The sad part is that you haven't seen the bottom yet. Not even close. But good luck with Marble Mouf HC. ALL of you will be wanting him gone before the season is done. You THINK you have upward momentum but thats because you're a homer. You're sorry program is headed down with a bullet.

UM SUCKS

Florida State, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, University of South Florida, University of Central Florida. All schools supported by the state. All have large alumni bases because they are mandated to take Florida students even though they cannot qualify for other schools outside of the state. Yes they all have stadiumsbut that's because the taxpayers paid for them. Miami is a private school and has to go it alone to get a stadium. Miami has a small alumni base because there are less than 10,000 students at Miami. Schools like Florida have 35 to 40 thousand students. By shear numbers you should have stadiums comparable to the Big House in Michigan or Leyland Stadium in Tennessee. But you don't.

All the state schools can get land either by eminent domain or have the state shell out the money because the schools are out in the middle of nowhere. Miami is stuck in the middle of a huge metropolis area with nowhere to build except the Everglades. FIU is sitting on land recalimed from the waterways and garbage dump known as Interama. The FIU south campus has the stadium sitting on old tropical park, an old horse racing track.

What Miami has proved is that it's not the size of the stadium or the extravagance of the training facilities or even how many millions of dollars are poured into the program but rather the heart and soul of the players. Miami lost that heart and soul during the Coker era but Randy is bringing it back. The athletic ability has always been there. What was missing is the heart. Heart will always win.

I was fortunate, I was able to go to a real school out of state and then come back to Miami for graduate school. By the way, the out of state school was Auburn..... a school Florida lost to the past two years....stuffing Teblow last year. My man Pat Nix will get the offense going and it will be all she wrote. War Damn Eagle!

Go Canes!

Any team that gets beat fourty eight to NOTHING sucks. that was a mere 75 minutes ago don't forget. But it's all fixed now right? YOU GUYS SUCK !

The local media is already fed up with two faced Secret Service Shannon. He'll get his much quicker than you dumbells realize.

Wake will tool your sorry a s s in 08...Pathetic.

Nominated for brain dead homer statement of the week:

" The athletic ability has always been there. What was missing is the heart. Heart will always win."

there are plenty programs that fill stadiums and don't win games. Miami has never had packed houses, that's not what they're about. The Miami brand has always been about more that student body and home field advantage.

In Florida you have 40K + student body with years of alumni support and basically the backing of a whole city. While Miami is a different animal, so you can't really compare the two. I'm not concerned about the past. This team isn't built like those teams, which is probably a good thing because back then, save Butch Davis' years, they were borderline hoodlums. Miami is a national brand. The Miami brand has always appealed to those who didn't buy in to the long standing traditions of programs like OSU, UF, UGA, ND, etc...

So with all that being said, you hating the Canes is completely understandable. You hate it because it's different. Dislike it because you don't understand what makes them special. Who knows if Randy is the right person to completely right the ship. What we do know (see) is a program that was already headed for the skids long before Shannon came. What he has been able to accomplish off the field is enough for me to keep hope. And if his on the field record doesn't reflect it at least he laid the ground work.

If I remember correctly Florida had to go through a similar transition with a guy named Zook.

The sad part is that you haven't seen the bottom yet. Not even close. But good luck with Marble Mouf HC. ALL of you will be wanting him gone before the season is done. You THINK you have upward momentum but thats because you're a homer. You're sorry program is headed down with a bullet.

Ha your comments are rude and untrue. You must be really bored to blog on a Miami blog especially since your are a GAY TURD fan. Listen Tebow is going to get hurt this year, your coach is a cry baby, Percy is little and injury prone. Our defense will be much more polished than yours plus we are taking all Urban Liar's recruits. And we havent hit the bottom yet? Please little man we hit the bottom last year now we are only rising. Regardless whether we beat Florida in the swamp is irrelevant we have already started to win the recruiting war and in 2010 we will win the National championship, so either way your a loser and you must have never gotten any attention when you were a kid. Ha HA HA HA

"Put your money where your mouth is"

ITS ALL ABOUT THE U!

Glory, tell me when was the last time florida beat UM?

Sorry Ell, try as you may, B.O.B. edged you out for dumb cane homer statement of the week. But I got to give you some credit you inflatable helmet wearing moron. " we will win the national championship" is a strong second. Those days are way over. This isn't a down time. This is the new ERA in cane football. It's the reality of a program that has eroded BADLY for years. Sure the bare empty depth chart drew local recruits, at least the ones that qualified. Next year won't be so rosey for recruiting. This new ERA will hurt until Marble Mouf is given his walking papers. That guy is gonna drag down UM farther than they already were. He's clueless.
UM had no choice but to hire that guy. UM strategy: no one will come here because we have eroded so bad and we pay dirt. So lets hire some fiery speech guy from within that nobody else in the world would give a glance to. He's way over his head. (CANES SUCK in case you haven't noticed) Since joining the bottom feeding ACC you have gotten worse. CANES SUCK. Should have stayed in the even more pathetic Big East.

What a pathetic bunch of morons that show up for Canes games. Baggy jeans, hat crooked, barbed wire tattoo, nonstop cell phone talking, leave "cause we gettin blown out BRO", Expedition driving, Dade county LOSERS. Will DuhU ever "pack" more than 30,000 into that horrible fish warehouse? No way. CANES SUCK

Um's football PROGRAM is continuing to erode BADLY. Its not and "down time" you fools. It's the new STATE of UM FOOTBALL. Good luck with that marble mouf coach he is CLUELESS.

First of all you are retarded, second why in the world are you so condifent in your beloved Florida Gators? They lost to Michigan last year dude.. What you talk like they were undefeated sort of like how Urban felt when Cookie decided to go to the U and jump on the bandwagon for the future. We will win the NC in the next couple of years and we will hit Florida in their mouth this year and although I am not going to guarantee a victory we will however make it a game and hopefully hurt Tebow and break his leg. He is a moving target dog sort of like Percy over the middle. Keep your mouth shut and stop bloging on here or else I am going to break your fingers and you will never be able to type again...

Hey guys. I was just kidding around, no hard feelings. I don't mean to come across rude, but sometimes I just get caught up in the moment. The truth is, Miami should field a pretty decent team, and Florida would be wise to watch out for them, as they are young, talented and hungry.

Many of you dont know this, but I was brought up in a broken home where the neighborhood kids used to push me around, and they always wore Miami gear. So I always hated the canes, but one day, after a playground bully took me back behind the old tool shed and showed me a thing or two, I have always had problems finding women attractive. I do "bat for the other team" and other than a 350lb hefer named Lacresha, a have never known a woman. So please forgive me for posting ALL THE TIME, as I just lost my job at 7-11 because I got caught in the back room with doing some nasty things with an issue of GQ and a snickers bar. By the way.. you SUCK, canes SUCK, trees SUCK, I SUCK, Scotch tape SUCKS, football SUCKS, shannon SUCKS, I SUCK (for a dollar)

you're on crack "elliot" (who names their kid elliot?..people in the 50's, that's who) Florida will crush UM. Vegas will spot your green inept team at least 21 . Final score should be at least 28 point spread as Meyer crushes Shannon easily. this one will be a laugher. Bring on some real competition with NC contenders georgia, LSU

UM is a walkover.

Tim Tebow is SOOOO hot!

"stop bloging on here or else I am going to break your fingers and you will never be able to type again..."

IMPRESSIVE MORON

My favorite movie scene is the one in TOP GUN when all the guys are playing volleyball on the beach. Tom Cruise is SOOOOO hot!

Go to school Stool. Quit posting your standard garbage.

I'd name my kid Ralph or Lucien or Humberto before I'd ever consider naming him "Elliot". Go back to the 1950's

Wow what a tiny logo for us. This so called home of ours is not even a home. Its a rental. Not a place to call home, but thats the cards the fans were dealt because its about the money. Maybe one day they will save the money and build a stadium. Or they can take down the city of Miami building and build a stadium on top of their stupid a__es for destroying our stadium once the Marlins get sold. (Sorry Marlins but you're the reason our stadium wasn't fixed.)

As for you loud mouth Gator fans. You guys run your mouthes way too much. This is why we respect FSU and not you. They run their mouthes but atleast the play us every year and don't run away and say no no we can't play the Canes. Oh and how many championships have you won? We won 5 and how many do you have again? More importantly why are you reading Miami Hurricane blogs/articles to begin with? And I sure in hell hope we do beat you just so I don't have to listen to your mouthes. Or if we don't win I hope we beat Timmy Boy into the ground and make him know what it feels like to play real football. Don't EVER under estimate the U!!!

I agree past glory/present story... Did you see the interview last year with Tim Tebow in the locker room with his shirt off!.. WOW!

Undertestimate the canes? Good comedy. The canes flat out suck and no one is gives them the time of day because thats what they deserve. ACC doormat. No presence nationally. Don't deserve it. It'll just get worse as long as Marble Mouf is running the ship. How on earth does a head coach lose control of his team? Cancerous players..blah..blah...blah. DuhU is a JOKE and your sorry coach was ranked 66th among 66 BCS coaches. Go look for yourself. He'll be your Zook. Three years..GONE. You'll suffer with that goofball for 2 more seasons.

The only reason that you run your mouth with such confidence is because you are safely hiding behind a computer, you coward. I bet you don't even have the balls to show yourself in the swamp and talk all of your nonsense, face to face. You are a typical, p ussy gator.

Hey Manny... Do What ya gotta do

One more thing, the Gator rule! 9-4 baby, read em and weep! Take that cane fans! How's that taste! 5-3 in the SEC... eat that! Canes suck! Yeah! 0-6 vs the canes baby! No one else can claim that! Tebow is hot! Oh yeah!

Elliott I love my name personally and who would name me that? A very bright and creative women thats who. Go back to redneck ville and drink some beer dumb as$
In case you forgot Florida sucks and the GAY TURDS are going to get more than they can handle from us this year so go and cry with your winey Head Coach Urban Liar(he is such a wimp) I loved watching him sulk as Michigan whipped youll up and down the field. You have no DEFENSE Michigan pretty much owned youll last year and they do not have the talent we have this year.. So get ready you retard and keep talking and Tebows going to get his legs broke. Ha Ha Ha

Its all about the U!

IM not cocky, Im confident/
So when you tell me Im the best..
Its a compliment>

Quit blogging and get a girlfriend man...
Florida gators are sore losers who live in teh worst part of florida. Everyone knows Gainesville is not an attractive city and personally would never go there unless I need to do a story on "Rednecks in America"

Lol...who cares about this 40-year old virgin's opinion on anything? He's already proven how limited his knowledge of sports is. So, why does anybody care about what this nerd says? And who is on a blog 24/7? Loser.

FLORIDA WILL CRUSH THE HAPLESS CANES EASILY

Still UM has won the last six, everything else is..... Irrelevant. Like I said before SEVEN STRAIGHT IN 08.

Ok with that said, say you do win, MAKE SURE it doesnt take you another 10+ years to schedule us again, actually make it 2010 in our house, i'll even buy your f*ckin ticket.

And how come you pansies dont have Auburn on your schedule this year? weird huh?

And yea we did lose to virginia 48-0, did you think about the fact that you lost to a team that got beat by Appalachian State University? Of course not.

I could argue all day with you pansies, bring it!

Ya know, it wouldn't even occur to me to read, much less comment hundreds of times on a UF or FSU story. I guess I don't have such a huge insecurity issue that I feel some deep-seeded need to tell someone that they and their team suck over and over just so I can fool myself into thinking that I am better than all those who don't live in their parents' basement and who have kissed a girl before.

So what if I live in my moms basement? So what if I've never seen a naked woman? My gayders were 9-4 baby! We rock! Tebow single-handedly made sure we only lost 4.

He's so awesome. I love him, and I don't care who knows it. One day I'll marry him and we will adopt a child from Zimbabwe and name him Tebow..

little tebow tebow will grow up to play football at Florida and kick the canes as$! So take that.. canes suck.. me and tebow are awesome. I guarantee we'll have just as good a year as 2007.. mark my words... no more than 4 losses... book it baby! We're awesome! MA! MEATLOAF! I'M HUNGRY DOWN HERE IN THE BASEMENT!

Hell yea man a championship in 06/07 and a 9-4 season in 07/08 should give you all the right in the world to talk s*it to a team you haven't beat since 85'.

Of course this doesnt matter cuz its the past, just like your 2nd championship in 06/07-
Miami holds the edge in the all-time series with a 28-25 record against Florida. The two schools met every year from 1944 until 1987, but have not played regularly since then. Florida canceled the annual rivalry after the SEC announced the addition of an extra conference game.(*cough*bullsh*t)

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – As the University of Miami football team continues its preparation for the 2008 season on the practice fields, the same student-athletes are getting ready for another semester in the classroom, a place where the Hurricanes have thrived in recent years.

In 14 of the last 16 years, the University of Miami football team’s graduation rate far exceeded the national average of the American Football Coaches Association’s member schools. Since 1991, UM’s average AFCA rate is 71.52 percent, well ahead of the national average of 58 percent.
“We are in a profession that keeps score, and no score is more important than our graduation success rate,” Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. “The University of Miami is synonymous with champions and the young people in our program today are focused on becoming champions both in the classroom and in competition. I commend the young people currently in our program today and those in the past for their dedication and commitment to academic excellence.”

This past spring, the NCAA released its annual Academic Progress Report (APR), with the Hurricane football team scoring a 969, the eighth-highest mark out of the 119 Bowl Sub-division football programs. Miami’s score – also the third-highest mark in the 12-team Atlantic Coast Conference – puts the team in the 80th-90th percentile nationally based on its performance in the classroom.

Miami’s APR score in 2008 was a slight improvement over its mark of 966 in 2007 when the team was ranked 10th nationally in academic success.

Of the 23 seniors on this year’s squad, 13 have already earned degrees, while the remaining 10 are all on course to graduate either in December of 2008 or May of 2009.

The 13 players that have already earned degrees include: Carlos Armour (Sports Administration), Tyrone Byrd (Liberal Arts), Glenn Cook (Marketing and Business Management, Sports Management master’s candidate), Romeo Davis (Liberal Arts), Dwayne Hendricks (Business Management), Khalil Jones (Sports Administration), Joe Joseph (Sports Administration), Eric Moncur (Liberal Arts), Anthony Reddick (Liberal Arts), Chris Rutledge (Liberal Arts), Xavier Shannon (Enrollment Management master’s candidate), Derron Thomas (Sports Administration) and Chris Zellner (Geography).

Last season, Miami had 12 early graduates – the second-highest total nationally behind fellow ACC member Boston College and in 2006, Miami had an ACC-high eight players named to the All-ACC Academic Football Team.

Miami’s fall semester begins Wednesday, Aug. 27, one day before the Hurricanes open the season against Charleston Southern at 7:30 p.m. at Dolphin Stadium.
