Canes crush Aggies 41-23

Sitting here at FIU Stadium where the 12th-ranked South Florida Bulls are playing the Golden Panthers. But I'm still keeping an ear out to hear what's going on with the Canes.

I'm listening to the game here on WQAM and following the game on CBS Sports' Gametracker. I've been really impressed at how UM responded to getting punched in the mouth on the game's opening play. Since the 62-yard touchdown pass by Jerrod Johnson to Mike Goodson, the Canes have gone on a 24-3 run.

> Robert Marve has been impressive, connecting on 11 of 13 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. He hit freshman Thearon Collier for a 28-yard touchdown and had a 66-yarder to Collier called back by penalty. Solid, solid outing for Marve. He's showing us he can be effective when the offense is opened up.

> Graig Cooper has two touchdown runs and 77 yards on only three carries. UM has thrown the ball 20 times and run it only 8 times. I expect that to flip flop in the second half with a 14-point lead.

> So far, three Canes have gone down with injuries. Guard Chris Rutledge, Marve (who returned in the second quarter) and defensive tackle Marcus Forston. WQAM is reporting Forston injured his shoulder. In a move that didn't surprise me one bit, Allen Bailey saw some time at tackle while Forston was out. Bailey is certainly big enough to handle the war in the trenches.

> Despite reports he likely wouldn't play, Eric Moncur started at defensive end for Miami Saturday. He's made two tackles for loss in the first half.

> Huge punt return by the way by Travis Benjamin to set up UM's final score of the first half. He had a 46-yard return to set up Collier's touchdown pass. It's amazing what happens when you have a few playmakers available.

> Moncur comes through with the first defensive turnover of the season, picking off a pass to setup another UM touchdown -- a Marve to Farquharson TD pass. Canes are now blowing out A&M 34-10.

> Shannon said turnovers come in bunches. He was right. Glenn Cook recovers a fumble and scores to make it 41-10.

> Big, big win for the Canes, who showed they could move the football on the ground with Graig Cooper and use its weapons at receiver. The defense causes two turnovers that lead to easy points. This is what U wanted to see today.

It sux that this game isn't on in atlanta

Give Nix credit, he is calling a great game!

i like that the defense is going for "kill shots", lets get some of that swagger back!

A Realisst,

Make sure you give the AD and team credit!

FYI - Cooper is from TN not South Florida, so you can recruit out of state.

FYI - Derron Thomas is from LS!

oops, LA not LS

i hope all of the nix haters are satisfied as the offensive line played better and the receivers blocked better and caught the football. A couple of things to work on:

Can someone get bosher to kickoff the ball into the endzone?

Team lacks 4th quarter killer instinct...hopefully that is learned with experience.

Too many penalties on important plays.

26 point left on the board, could have been a bigger blowout.

Was the secondary exposed and why was the coverage so far off the line by the DB's?

And most of all, the defense needs to work on tackling all week because I think North Carolina is a lot better than texas a and m.

did any fsu fans out there just see your qb throw that interception right to wake forest?

Overall a very good game for the Canes. I like that Nix let Marve throw a little more on first down and it seemed to work. Only downside was for the 2nd game in a row the D unravelled a bit in the final quarter.

MIAMI(FL) - 41
TEXAS A&M - 23

Great Game The Team Played This Afternoon In College Station, TX. I'm Proud Of What Robert Marve Was Able To Do, And Our Defense Did An Outstanding Job!!! We Still Need To Tackle A Lil' Bit Better Instead Of Going For Those "Ooh & Aah" Kill Shots, And We Need To Run The Ball More Effectively!!! Yet, We're 2-1 And We're Coming Back Home To Take On Upstart North Carolina "Tar Heels" Led By Brandon Tate and Head Coach, Butch Davis Next Saturday Afternoon In Miami Gardens.

Hey Manny...Wasn't Marshall McDuffie kicked off of the FIU squad after the "incident"? Why is he on the field? Also, what's the split of FIU versus USF fans at the game? 50/50? 60/40 Bulls?

Keep up the amazing work!

I'm very encouraged, and I think we have a real shot at the ACC now. My only problem is just how familiar this all is. Beat a cupcake in the opener, lose on the road to the #5ish team, beat Texas A&M big to give is hope that we've turned the corner.

The hope comes from how everything has played out. We thumped charleston southern, whereas we only beat Marshall handily. We got destroyed last year by Oklahoma, but we faired well against Florida. And we beat A&M pretty big at home last year, but we absolutely destroyed them on the road today.

I hope those differences are meaningful, because otherwise this year looks like a carbon copy of last year so far. If we beat up on UNC next week (UNC right?) then I'll be looking forward to a BCS game, hopefully against UF.

so WHERE OUR ALL THE NIX HATERS AT.. I TOLD U GUYS A WEEK AGO THE OBJECTIVE IS TO GET THE BALL TO THE PLAYMAKERS AND MARVE DID A GOOD JOB AT THAT PUT THE DIFFENCE BETWEEN THIS GAME AND THE UF GAME IS THAT THE PLAYMAKERS DID SOMTHING WIRTH THE BALL. GOOD EXECUTION TODAY GUYS THAT ALL TO IT. TRUST THE COACHES

how in the world is fla state ranked?

Fellas,

I must say that there was a fair balance between the offense and the defense. They both helped each other out. The offense played up to its potential today. I am sure they can do better. If they keep this type of performance throughout the season, I don't foresee any team in the ACC beating them. As someone suggested earlier, a rematch with UF would be sweet and I can guarantee that the result this time would be in Miami's favor.

I hope I am wrong, but I think Leonard Hankerson may be in the doghouse. He was the reason that long touchdown by Collier was called back. Kayne did pretty good today. I watch in amazement as those boys are turning into young men. If they keep that level of performance, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Canes play in the NC next year.

Look guys, I know it's too early to raise the Canes to such high level, but I can't help it...:).

I was very pleased today. The Canes did well on all 3 phases of the game (Special Team, Offense & Defense).

Go Canes!

P.S. For the guy/girl who accused Shannon of not showin emotions..... I hope he satisfied your complaint today.

Ryan,

After tonight we'll see whether or not they deserve that ranking. Like you, I don't think they should be either. However, keep in mind that a lot of those voters only take the scoring margin into consideration and ignore the opponent's level.

P.S. The Wake Forest QB just had a bonehead play and prevented his team from going up 10 - 0 into the locker room.

MIAMI HURRICANES looked really really good today Marve has a very bright future all i can say is we will be in the hunt for the national championship for the next few years im so happy were finally back now all i need if for the phins to come back lol GO CANES

I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH YOU ON THAT.. SPEICAL TEAMS IS A MAJOR LIABILITY IN MY EYES OUR KICKER CANT NOT KICK THE BALL FOR A TOUCH BACK HE'S KICKING IT TO THE TEN OR FIFTH TEEN YEAH AND ITS NOTHING AGAINT TAMU BUT WHAT ABOUT WHEN WE GET SOME PEOPLE WHO CAN RUN THE BALL BACK WELL BE GIVING TEAMS GOOD FIELD POSITION AND THATS SOMETHING RS NEEDS TO ADDRESS

Just an FYI:

Miami pledge Brown goes off against Kapaun
Elite. ESPNU 150 running back Bryce Brown had a huge day in East's 34-24 win over Kapaun (East Central Wichita, Kan.) on Friday, rushing 20 times for 263 yards (13.1 average) and four touchdowns, reports the Wichita Eagle. Three of his scores came on 80-, 67- and 50-yard runs.

I've seen Brown play, his is a beast!

OBERT SIMTH IS ABOUT TO TELL U HIS NEW ACC CONTENDER NOW ON ESPN2

bye the way i pray we get a rematch with florida that would be so so great to beat them after all the u know what i heard after that game GO CANES

1 more thing if bye any chance we do get to play the gators in a bowl game it would only be fair if we get all ACC refs this time GO CANES

Where are all the Shannon and Nix bashers?

We looked great so U have nothing to say!

THEIR IN HIDING TILL SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS THEN THEY WELL REAPPEAR. JUST LIKE LITTLE ROACHES....

WILL

Great game plan, Nix just earned my respect! This team will turn into something great if they keep this up, plus the recruits will love this type of team. And they can play as FR......

Today was wonderful. It appears that this team is starting to gel right before the SCC season starts. That is good.

We finally threw on first downs and took some chsnces downfield. I do agree we need to work on the kickoff/speacial teams because the A&M return unit was killing us.

We also need to learn to go for the jugular in the 4th quarter because we let-up on the Aggies. Which reminds me... I am not sure why Randy was so P.O.'d Meyer kicked a field goal on us. That's what real teams do... never let up.

I remember the days when Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson routinely ran-up the score on weaker teams. This is what you are supposed to do so there are no miraculous comebacks. Remember the Doug Flutie and Frank Reich games? NEVER EVER LET UP!!!

I meant ACC not SCC.

I was a Nix hater 2 weeks ago for not letting the kids play, Tying the wrists of the offense and not letting them do what they are capable of doing and it has been proven tonight. I saw Marve hit his 2nd and 3rd options today, including the one to the back of the touchdown.
So i don't understand why they weren't allowed to use this offense vs FL....Coach NIX !!!
I hate the screen plays every 3.5 plays, but overall I liked the improvement of the offense.
Noticed we didn't use all 18 of our receivers today..huh ??? I was very happy with their offense because NIX let them play. He didn't open up the offense VS Gators.Today proves my point !!!

Good win, must tackle better, and secondary wasn't playing up to it's potential, gave to much of a cushion

Where are all the F'in haters????????

Da U Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

TXCANE DIDNT YOU SAY SMALL BACKS DONT FIT AT MIAMI? JUST ASKING?

COOPER - 5-10 180
THOMAS - 5-9 200

TODAY THE U LOOKED GREAT, BUT PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS TEXAS A&M WHICH WE BEAT LAST YEAR WITH KYLE WRIGHT.

I STILL THINK COOPER IS NOT AN EVERY DOWN BACK AND I AM NOT GOING TO GET EXCITED UNTIL NEXT WEEK WHEN WE KICK UNC'S A**.

I AM ALSO HAPPY WE DONT LOOK LIKE FSU. THEY LOOK HORRIBLE!

I AM ALSO HAPPY WE DONT LOOK LIKE FSU. THEY LOOK HORRIBLE!

Watched the whole Semen-oles game and that team is in dis-array. They couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag if you gave them a knife!!

Both of their QB's are horrible, OMG they suk!! Maybe even worse than Kyle and Kirby!!

How that team was even ranked is beyond anyone's explanation?????

THIS WILL BE SAINT BOOBY'S LAST YEAR GUARANTEED!!!

FREE SHOES 5-7 NO BOWL, JIMBO FISHER NEXT HEAD COACH, NICE PRODUCTIVE OFFENSE YOU GOT THERE!!

ok if nix had played like this 2 weeks ago maybe the canes actually beat florida. Let's not let him off the hook for his florida play calling it was horrible.Nix did a great job against a&m but let's wait to see how he calls a game agianst wake or florida state or even north carolina. Seems to me the tougher the competion the more nix tends to choke in his playcalling. a&m has been horrendos this year that allowed nix freedom in his playcalling had a&m been 3-0 and dominating you probably would of seen old conservative nix still.

TXCANE DIDNT YOU SAY SMALL BACKS DONT FIT AT MIAMI? JUST ASKING?

COOPER - 5-10 180
THOMAS - 5-9 200

Yes, they are small so why recruit more? That's why we are recruiting larger power backs to go along with Coop and Thomas.

Did you notice my FYI? Future recruit Brown rushes 20 times for 263 yards (13.1 average) and four touchdowns.

We did look good, I also hope we can continue against UNC.

Yes, FSU did look badddddddddd.

Go U!!

Paid $140 for the ESPN Gameplan to watch this game today in NYC. Worth it! Canes looked loose - culminating in Cook's forced fumble and TD. The defense scores - remember that? Moncur's INT - remember that? Easy to win with that kind of explosiveness matched on the offense. Marve has the look of a future Pro Bowler. Here we go, running the table on the rest of the season. Go Canes!

Brooklyn...well done.

Its a Great day
to be
a Miami Hurricane...

Said itz gr8...

Manny,

What did you mean by "Embarrassing scene" at the FIU game? Now I am curious....

An impressive win, including another touchdown that was called back, Da U is starting to show why it was ranked number one in recruiting. We have so many playmakers on offense, but let me single out true freshmen Theron Collier from State Champ Booker T. Washington and Travis Benjamin from Glades Central. Did you see ole Micanor Regis from Pahokee tearing up the Texas A&M offensive line: the kid is a beast and continues our Glades connection with Benjamin. The game against very tough North Carolina is going to be a classic, I just hope they switch it to prime time it deserves.

The ACC kicked some serious a*s: Congrats to Georgia Tech for exposing the SEC fraud by kicking Ole Miss’s a*s badly; NC State burst East Carolina’s bubble, not to mention the love that Lou Holtz’ spawn (Skip) had been getting. As for Da Turds, does anyone have an easier schedule? Tenneessee, losers to an awful UCLA team, Ole Miss, which was trounced by Ga. Tech, my old kentucky home and Vandy (the name says it all) a couple of SEC traditonal patsies, and Arkansas, the worst team in the SEC, “going down” on Bama (like Gaturd imposters Jay and Daniella do on each other).

Who did Mississippi State get crushed by?

And it is another Miami First Down... great game!
Cat5

My bad, I got the two Mississippis mixed up. The Jackets owned Miss. State, Ole Miss got whipped by SEC doormat Vandy. With Kentucky, lowly Arkansas, Crap Bowl candidate Tennessee, struggling South Carolina, the SEC conference is slowly being exposed for the overrated fraud that it is.

The Gaturds have one of the easiest schedules in the nation for the rest of the year, so they will probably run the table, and Da U, if it continues to play like yesterday can also: dare I say it: rematch.
USC and Oklahoma will be 1 and 2, but it would be nice to get the Turds before Teebow tries to make it as an H back in the NFL.

I am proud of our boys and I am glad that Texas A&M got some points on us because I don't want Randy Shannon letting our players get too proud of themselves. Marve has incredible potential: he's tough, mobile, accurate, and he can put zip on the ball. Did you see the ball he threw when he took that shot on the ribs???? GUTS. Our O-Line openned holes on a bad running D like it should've. We made it look easy. Cooper is just straight up fast!! And we need Travis Benjamin on kickoffs as well with Brandon Harris. Our D looked good for the most part, but we missed too many tackles, especially the potential sacks. We should've had about 8 sacks and would've if it weren't for how mobile and big their qb was. Our kickoff coverage NEEDS to improve!!! Everything else is fine, but our kickoff coverage needs work. I need to single out Dedrick Epps for a good game and Kayne Farquarson as well!!!

Did ESPN even show any highlights of the game ? I tried to stay sober enough to watch College Gameday Final and I didn't see anything on it the game wasn't on up here in the northeast.

I liked how Waaaah-ndy had Marve throw into the end zone late in the fourth when up by 18. Sounds like running up the score to me. That shows what kind of a man Waaah-ndy is, and what kind of program he's running. Or it should, at least, based on his own words after the Florida beatdown. Waaaah-ndy Shannon is a hypocrite and he, his team, his school and all their supporters are still nothing but losers.

I agree...not gators have an easier schedule and play the tough opponents, at home.

Bailey at tackle...lmao....

We are finally seeing Randy s recruiting pay off------Imagine when these guys are juniors and 2 more top 5 classes come in and we can start redshirting these studs like we used to and only play 2-3 true fresh instead of 20, 2 more top classes would give him a full 4 year class of top recruits like Pete Carrol, URBAN(who has lost 3 and 4 games in 2 of 3 seasons), Stoops, Then we are back in the NC game every year. The only issue yesterday was based on what randy said is true--they went up and down the field on us----with a freshman qb and fresh wr fuller---they moved better than UF on us. But, when the game was close, after the 1st score, we did outplay them 24-3 thru the half. So when it was in doubt, we didnt give it up. But, who ever posted about eary starts like last year-beat the cupcake, lose to a top 5, and beat am--they scored 2 late TD's late like last year.
WE ARE ON OUR WAY BACK BOYS

We also have FSU and VA TECH at Home, the close games with NC that can go either way will tell us who we are----beat NC and Beat FSU, and are 4-1, we could get back into the top 25 and really are toughest game would be wake, correct? Can this be like 1983? Redshirt Fresh QB Bernie Kosar lost 28-3 at the Swamp, and he never thru a pass before that season, we won 11 straight and beat Nebraska for the Nat Title?
So far so good

Dumba$$, you don't even understand football at all do you? Typical Gator. What Randy did was take a knee at the end of the game on 4th down instead of taking a page out of Meyer's playbook. Thats class, none of which you have.

When ABC played "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet," after Da U scored a touchdown yesterday, I thought, gosh, with this class, we could win in the NFL in two years. Da U is going to own the college football world again.

As for the Gaturd who criticized Marve throwing into the end zone; it wasn't in the final minutes of the game like the Gaturds did, it was in the 3rd or early 4th quarter.

I must say, all the Nix haters better be glad we don't have Jimbo Fisher as our O-Coordinator. I am surprised Weatherford wasn't named the starter at the beginning of the season, because his 2 kids clearly weren't ready for non division 1-AA competition. 6 INTS to wake and both young Qb's got yanked once for the other one. Gotta be great for their confidence and at least Nix and Shannon recognized that in the Florida game. Not saying they shouldn't have taken a couple of shots downfield, but at least our qb's aren't sitting their this morning wondering what the hell happened like Fisher's qbs are.
