Canes crush Aggies 41-23

Sitting here at FIU Stadium where the 12th-ranked South Florida Bulls are playing the Golden Panthers. But I'm still keeping an ear out to hear what's going on with the Canes.

I'm listening to the game here on WQAM and following the game on CBS Sports' Gametracker. I've been really impressed at how UM responded to getting punched in the mouth on the game's opening play. Since the 62-yard touchdown pass by Jerrod Johnson to Mike Goodson, the Canes have gone on a 24-3 run.

> Robert Marve has been impressive, connecting on 11 of 13 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. He hit freshman Thearon Collier for a 28-yard touchdown and had a 66-yarder to Collier called back by penalty. Solid, solid outing for Marve. He's showing us he can be effective when the offense is opened up.

> Graig Cooper has two touchdown runs and 77 yards on only three carries. UM has thrown the ball 20 times and run it only 8 times. I expect that to flip flop in the second half with a 14-point lead.

> So far, three Canes have gone down with injuries. Guard Chris Rutledge, Marve (who returned in the second quarter) and defensive tackle Marcus Forston. WQAM is reporting Forston injured his shoulder. In a move that didn't surprise me one bit, Allen Bailey saw some time at tackle while Forston was out. Bailey is certainly big enough to handle the war in the trenches.

> Despite reports he likely wouldn't play, Eric Moncur started at defensive end for Miami Saturday. He's made two tackles for loss in the first half.

> Huge punt return by the way by Travis Benjamin to set up UM's final score of the first half. He had a 46-yard return to set up Collier's touchdown pass. It's amazing what happens when you have a few playmakers available.

> Moncur comes through with the first defensive turnover of the season, picking off a pass to setup another UM touchdown -- a Marve to Farquharson TD pass. Canes are now blowing out A&M 34-10.

> Shannon said turnovers come in bunches. He was right. Glenn Cook recovers a fumble and scores to make it 41-10.

> Big, big win for the Canes, who showed they could move the football on the ground with Graig Cooper and use its weapons at receiver. The defense causes two turnovers that lead to easy points. This is what U wanted to see today.

'don't give a damn about nothin' but this U'!!!!!!!!!!

I'm getting that old feeling again! Yes, I know we need to maintain perspective given the opponent, but the discipline, play calling, and execution were all stellar! Marve's confidence was obvious and he has a great guy backing him up. The future is right in front of us and all we have to do is enjoy. I can't wait to welcome Butch to our new home in a BIG way this Saturday. GO CANES!

Great job U ...

I've been traveling this week to Utah, TX and back to ATL for work. Everyone is on the Canes' jock baby. Those who saw the game at UF expected us to do what we did yesterday. I saw some subdued swagger, a type of quiet confidence that says, "we're ready to play anybody."

I'm glad that RS is coaching special teams because he will take personal responsibility for making sure that aspect gets better. Grab a guy from the stands if you have to as long as he can kick the ball into the endzone! But Bosher did do a great job on punts.

Final note: the defense has to finish tackles and more guys must get to the ball. If one guy goes for the kill shot and misses, there should be 2 more defenders in place to close the play. If not, other ACC playmakers will smoke us for big gains.

Overall, we won big on the road in a hostile environment when we were only favored by 3pts. Well done CANES!!

nix still sucks a&m is a horrible team let's see what they do against wake's d and florida states. i bet they don't score 20 on n.c next week so let's not crown nix for beating a horrible team

Manny Navarro,

In your blog, your opening lines were, "Sitting here at a half-empty and embarrassing scene at FIU Stadium where the 12th-ranked South Florida Bulls are playing the Golden Panthers. But my heart is in Texas."

Let me help you out. Please give me the name and contact information of your superiors at the Miami Herald and i'll start a petition to have you removed from ever coving an FIU event again. Your degree is from FIU yet your heart is in Texas or whereever UM may find itself. That's your dysfunction. That's your decision. So in addition to having you removed from covering FIU events, I'll work relentlessly to have any record of you holding and FIU degree wiped from any public record. I can't help you get secure a UM degree. You could either start stockpiling student loans or perhaps if you beg UM, they'll color in a diploma for you in crayon and you can hang it up in your cubical with pride.

I look forward to helping you achieve your goal of complete disassociation of anything FIU related.

This is my first and last posting on an UM blog. Unlike some UM fans, i'm not preoccupied with UM business. I stick to my FIU business and I could only pray UM does the same. If you hate FIU, fine. Then stay here on your UM blog and keep telling each other how great you are for beating Texas A&M, a team that was beaten earlier this year by ASU, a Sunbelt team that plays in the same conference as FIU.

Manny Navarro, I e-mailed you. Don't respond to me via this blog as I will not be coming back to visit this nor any other UM blog. E-mail me so that I can help you out.

Go G-Panthers.

Eek! He doesn't need to get banned or anything of the sort.

However, it's very disrespectful to be sent to cover a team and you sit there and spent the game listening another team. It's simple though, if he doesn't get to cover us, that is fine, don't show up!

If his boss demands he show up, let us FIU Faithful know and we'll be glad to email his boss and let him know that its best for all of us that he not cover us!

And stadium was over 80% full, not "half-empty and embarrassing" as you claim.

gpantera - Just shut up and get off this site!

FIU sux and Manny has the right to say what he wants!

Hey Manny,

Why don't you elaborate on what was so embarrassing about being at the FIU game on Saturday?

What is embarrassing is the fact that you are employed as a journalist and make those kind of stupid remarks while representing the Miami Herald. You sir, are an unprofessional joke. And the fact that you attended FIU makes you something even worse--a bandwagoner UM fan that only routes for winning programs. That, my friend, is why FIU, along with so many other college football fans, detest UM.

While FIU was fighting the real "U", USF, right until the end of the game in their first ever home game at the new FIU stadium, there you sat on your fat bottom writing garbage under the guise of being a journalist. You should be fired, Manny Navarro.

I told you to keep the faith! Watched the game on the gameplan. Miami's is executing alot better this year. Marve is very impressive. McCarthy played well and had a nice sack which caused a turnover resulting in a touchdown. There was some bigtime hitting going on! Defense slacked off a little in the late third quarter. Cooper had some nice runs. Miami has a very good chance to win the ACC if they continue executing and playing with intensity. Go Canes!!!!!!!!

THE REAL U USF LMBAO
Your showing your self to be pretty dumb so how can i really give a hell about what your writing. The stadium looked pretty empty to me. People have opinions you can't hate on manny for having his.

The guy is supposed to be a journalist. Are you kidding me? Does he even have a college degree?

Face it UM fans, USF has SURPASSED Miami. They are the real "U" (best team with a "U" on their helmet).

If Joseph Goodman(covers UF) is forced by Miami Herald to cover a UM game and writes his displeasure having to cover a half empty game between UM and North Carolina, instead of being at UF game...would you guys approve of his professionalism? I strongly doubt it...first of all, Goodman wouldn't do that. First thing Canes fans would do is ask Miami Herald to not let Goodman ever cover UM sport again.

Manny Navarro,

THE ABYSS

Hey Manny, any chance of getting some POST GAME AUDIO. Been looking everywhere and nobody seems to have any.

I agree. As both an FIU student and die-hard Canes fan, I find that opening comment distasteful and uncalled for. In an article entitled "Canes Crush Aggies 41-23" there's no need to make reference to FIU, especially as the "embarrassing scene at FIU Stadium." There was nothing embarrassing about it. An up and coming team put up a great fight against the 12th ranked (probably overrated) team in the nation. The only thing I find embarrassing is the lack of professionalism displayed by Manny Navarro.

On a side note, I hate it when people refer to other schools as the "real U." The University of Miami is and will always be THE U!

Other than that, great win for Miami. Keep 'em coming. I wish I could've watched it. Go Canes!

Am I missing something here. I believe this is a blog. If Manny wants to write in an OPINION based blog that its "embarassing" he has all the right. Last time I checked, it was PP who started that whole UCG garbage and you guys ate it all up.

All you FIU fans, including gpantera, are a bunch of hypocrites. Go to your own blog and talk about your pathetic team there.

Jesus Christ!

You just can't please people. Period.

Keep up the great work Manny! All you FIU people, get over it! Enjoy your commuter school.

Also, do you think that, despite Brandon James small frame, he can make it to the pros? What a waste of talent if he can't go to the next level.

Keep it coming canesrule. We know we matter when girls blog about us.

Keep it coming, I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep it coming!!!!!!!!

canesrule, your name is perfect, and keep it coming!!!

canesrule, did you watch the GT game yesterday???

Keep it coming girly girl!!!

I know the U is back because canesrule is back!!

Manny,

As a journalist, you report what you observe. Some will like it and others won't. Don't forget that the truth hurts sometimes so please understand the FIU faithfuls frustrations.

I personally feel for you because you missed out on a great game yesterday. Hopefully, you'll get a chance to watch it either on ESPN360 (if you have Verizon or AT&T internet). It was total domination by the 'Canes except for Special Teams coverage but our return game was great.

Please continue to share your views/opinions/feelings as well as your observations. Again, some will like it and others won't. You can't be bothered too much with what others think, but of course be mindful of their feelings....;).

P.S. Will you be covering the UNC game this Saturday?

I protest, some Gaturd is misappropriating my name. When I said we will own the college football world again, I think I am being accurate and objective. In two years, the number one class Randy recruited will be able to compete on Sundays. Those are facts fake canesrule, so shove it up your Gaturd as* if you can't handle the truth, but remove your orange and blue buttlplug first.

MANNY NAVARRO,

You are already employed at the SIBERIA of print journalism... What's your beef with FIU ?? That was ONE FALSE MOVE on your part.

Pack your bags on Monday sir, I hear the Coral Gables Gazette is looking for a janitor. You messed with the WRONG MARINE this time.

BTW - I was a season tix holder for 11 years at UM 1995 - 2006, all of us in South Florida got love for the CANEs, we grew up on them. What's your beef son ?? You owe the FIU community an apology kid.

"The GAYTURDS sold their soul to the devil when they signed ubran crier" - and as penance he granted U your fourth choice coach.

U + 4TH CHOICE COACH = U GET WHAT U PAY FOR

a feeble attempt to belittle our big win before a loud, proud, sour crowd ...

JUBILATION

how does it feel to lose 26 of the last 27 against the likes of arkansas state, north texas state, middle tennessee state, troy state, louisiana-lafayette, louisiana-monroe, florida atlantic, western kentucky, bad news bears sponsored by chico's bail bonds?

DESPAIR

Some of you UM fans may try to defend Manny Navarro's unprofessional comments that start this blog by saying he can say whatever he wants, its just a blog.

But what is so troublesome is that this guy purports to be a journalist. After reading those comments (and by the way, I NEVER read this blog -- someone who posted on the FIU blog copied Manny's comments after browsing this blog), there is no way you can call him a journalist. What does this particular blog have to do with FIU? It's about the UM/Texas A&M game. And he said NOTHING to support his comments or give any examples of why the FIU/USF game was "embarrasing." The fact that you'd rather be in College Station is irrelevant to what was going on at FIU on Saturday. There was no reason to call anything "embarrassing" in a blanket statement like that unless you have some specific examples of what they were.

Manny Navarro's comments come across like a jilted school girl that didn't get to go to the middle school dance she wanted to go to. His journalism skills would barely earn a "C" in middle school.

What happened Manny, why the FIU hatred? Did FIU flunk you out of journalism school? If you're just another UM bandwagoner fan that somehow was given the gift of your own blog working for the Miami Herald, then fine. But don't try to portray yourself as a journalist again.
