« '09 Recruit Report | Main | Moncur, Bailey will play »

Live Chat at 2 p.m.

For those of you who missed it last week, we've moved our weekly chats on the blog to a new and improved forum. I'll be on at 2 p.m. this afternoon to field questions after Randy Shannon and several of his players including Robert Marve meet with the media Tuesday morning at UM. Have some good questions lined up.

> Before I go, UM released its injury report Monday night for the game. This might be a good sign for those wondering if defensive ends Allen Bailey and Eric Moncur will play. The only guy listed on the injury report -- freshman receiver Tommy Streeter (who was deemed out for the season two weeks ago). We should probably find out for sure Tuesday who else will be out for the game.

> As for some honors, quarterback Jacory Harris was tabbed the ACC's Rookie of the Week for his performance against Charleston Southern. Senior Spencer Adkins, fresh off his two sacks, was tabbed co-defensive lineman of the week in the ACC.

> I'll let you know Wednesday who the winner of our Top 10 Reasons I Hate The Florida Gators contest is. So far, G-Man, Lizard Zquizher, CVS, Ted, CanesThing01 and lions2knights made me laugh the hardest. And, I have to give 2bits some props. He came up with the best reasons to rip the Canes of any Gator fan to visit the site. You have until midnight Wednesday to file any last second entries.

A: Same as I said last week... 1

A: Haven't heard a peep out of Buchanon to be honest. He's likely headed to redshirt avenue. Only news on the '09 recruits is what I posted in the previous blog.

Q. Did you know if Miami was recruiting Jamaal Berry hard enough? or did he not have the scores necessary? I saw that he orally committed to Ohio State this weekend.

Whats the attitude on the team after the comments made by that Florida receiver?

Manny I do not want to here any talking just lots of action. It is not what you say it is what you do. Go Canes!!!

Q. how many tickets did Da U get for Canesville against the Gaturds?
Last time we went we must have had 15 to 20 thousand in the stands (2002)

Q1) Manny, what's your honest prediction for the game score??

Q2) What are the players doing different (if anything) this week in their practice and prep to get ready for this game?

Q3) What are the coaches using as motivation? Any good stories?

Q4) When is the team going up to G-ville? Any idea how many Cane's fans are estimated to make this trip?

Q5) Why is it Gator fans are so much more bitter and stuck-up than Noles or Buckeye fans??

Q6) I heard Meyer wants to run up the score on us to make a statement with state dominance and recruiting? Any truth to that?

Q7) Why does ESPN like UF and the Buckeyes so much? It seems like everything they do puts us on the bad side.

Q8) Any recruits and reputable alumni going to this game?

Q: Do the players know about the Gator Flop?

Q) If UM is going to beat UF at UF, what is going to be keys to the game? Turnovers? Special Teams? Defense? What?

Q) How is TE Gordon looking?

sup Manny Hope Your weekend was good man...When is the team supposed to arrive in canesville and how they getting there train or plane?? Q#2- Does the team seem focused with the task at hand??

Any word on how the canes are going to use cooper and james?

Q) Manny, what's Miami doing to prepare them selves against such hostile enviroment like swamp?

Who has Rivals? I was wondering who the running back is that says he is going to commit to the U?

TXCane- I was wondering the same thing about the RB. I see there is also a class of 2010 committ CB ready to give us a verbal. Also, not to add more pressure to the cooker, Jarvis Jones will be at the UF game and is considering both schools.

We are going to beat the brakes off the punk ass gaytors! All of you halfway fans and doubters can stay off our bandwagon after we upset the college football world! We got some TRUE canes over here baby!!!

The RB might be Jakhari Gore the cousin of San Francisco 49er and former Miami Hurricane star Frank Gore. Looks like he's wearing a Columbus T-shirt.

Manny, I will be driving to the game from Pensacola. I was wondering if you had any information on the possible cancelation of the game due to Hanna? And if so will they reschedule?

Yep, its Jakhari Gore. Compare the pictures on rival sites.

Manny, penetration of UF's line of scrimmage is the key to the game for me. UM has to get to the ball carriers before they reach the line of scrimmage, or they will find seams and hurt us with their speed. Does the Onion and/or Bill Young have the courage to sell out at the line of scrimmage, or will they try to protect the DB's?

For me, I'd rather see them attack the line and try to force mistakes. If we're gonna lose, let's at least take a few of them down with us.

Q Manny,
For 2008 , it appeared that the Hurricanes concentrated their recruiting efforts in Dade, Broward, Palm beach county with several guys from this area. For 2009, it appears that the Hurricanes are not concentrating on as many players from these regions. What is your take on this and do you agree? Is the talent in these area not there this coming year or are there not as many players interested in the "U"?

I saw it on here before, but I'm glad Harvin and Spikes are playing. That way, when we win, there won't eb any excuses. I'm getting really psyched about the game, but we need to remember, this team IS overrated. I mean, if they didn't have Tebow last year, they would probably be close to, if not, our record. Michigan schooled them all over the place and Meyer even had some bad things to say about those seniors leaving. Now that it's all his boys and not Zookers, we'll get to see if he can really turn that talent into a manageable team. I seriously think we have a chance. BUT, the things I'm REALLY feeling HAVE TO BE DONE to win are 1) DO NOT turn the ball over. Momentum in the swamp would drown us if we do that. If we can take a few from them and remove the crowd early on, it will slightly easier for us. 2) Contain and pressure Tebow. Michigan pressured him and forced him to throw poorly or into the the D-line where they ate him alive. With our injured players from last week back, THEY HAVE TO put pressure on him or he'll sit back and pick us apart with those cross routes. 3) Special teams. Need say no more. We have to prevent their big returns and, at the same time, create big plays of our own. We need those speedy guys (Coop, Collier, "Blurr" Benjamin) to get some yardage. 4) KICKING GAME. Holy crap! How could we forget about this?? Punts have to placed, kickoffs have to placed to prevent big gains, and field goals will be CRUCIAL. Remember how we lost several times last year by missed field goals?? 5) Last but not least...QB connecting with WR's. Now that we have better playmakers at QB and WR, we have to make smart passes (short or deep) and good catches. Maybe even cycle Marve and Harris since Marve has the deep ball and mobility and Harris (respectfully) is more accurate on short throws. Those are what's sticking out like a sore thumb in my mind to win this game. If we lose any of these 5, we're done. Looks like we can win the ACC this year though by the way things are shaping up. Tampa here we come.

Haha...not too often I laugh at myself. Not only did I have horrible grammar above, but I incidentally listed ALL aspects of the game. Offense, Defense, and Special teams. I think it's safe to assume if we want to win this game, we'll have to execute well on all 3 parts. I also think having that depth and speed at WR will allow us to cycle them and keep fresh legs in the game. Same with the depth and packages our abundance of linebackers create.

I like the cut of your jib

Manny how many points do you think last years team would of scored last wk?

Atlanta-nice response. I'm not really a boat guy, but your jib ain't cut too bad either.

TURN 'EM LOOSE!

Manny,
Q: What are the Canes goals this season? We understand "No Excuses"...but what are the top 3 overall goals for this year to make it a positive?

- CVS

Manny, just wondering, what are your thoughts with Tharron Collier playing over DJ (Davon Johnson) I mean Tharron is shifty, but I believe DJ has the speed a college WR has to burn a defensive back. Is that something that is randomize by Coach Shannon, or did Tharron play out DJ?

Thanx for the Gore update!

Q1. manny is it safe to say that where going to have safetys by committee or is one of the standing out??

Q2. why is AR still wearing #26 why hasnit the team retired that jersey for the late great Sean Taylor??

Q3. with all the speed miami has out there at wide receivers is patrick nix got some spread out formations i know we our traditionally an I-formation pro style offense but with JH who played in the spread is whole four years at northwestern i was wondering if we might see some spread???

Q4. with the head coach of north miami beach saying he doesn't feel safe sending his players to the U because of what happened with doug wiggins.. has there been any other high school coaches saying the same thing??

NMB has never really been a pipeline to da U.

We've got to play some serious defense to stay in the game with UF. Mental mistakes can lead to big plays against the Gator offense.

I think if we tackle well and smack those receivers around...we'll be in the game.

I'm most interested in seeing how our speed matches up against UF and our attitude during the game.

Watch out ACC...the conference is all of a sudden winnable.

The odd makers has Fla over Miami by 21 points. The U will be ready on Sat night. This is not last year team. This game is going to but Miami back on the map.

I mean put Miami back on the map

The only great player I can think of to come out of NMB that played for UM was Michael Boureau and that's a stretch. As a graduate of NMB, I can tell you it definitely is NO football factory.

Dear Duh U Fans:

You can talk all u want about how Duh U can win this game. The bottom line is Duh U won't! Duh U will be run upon and thrown upon at will. The Gator defense got a little older and more experienced and I doubt Duh U will have any success in trying to keep up w/Tebow and Co.

By the way, why do u call yourselves Duh U anyways? Are u that f@#$%$ stupid that u can't pronounce, or spell, the University of Miami Candycanes? Good luck, girls.

I am very proud of the young Canes, but they were done a disservice by Patrick Nix. I know you have young players and a young QB, but Robert Marve did not look scared to me. He made it easy on the Florida defense; he never put any pressure on them to make plays. They played downhill all night because they knew exactly what was coming. Randy Shannon had a short leash on Tim Walton; I hope he extends the same courtesy to Nix.

P.S. Urban Myer is a prick for adding that field goal, he is lucky he ran into a young Hurricane team and an inept offensive coordinator. I really hope that the Canes can have a great year and Florida slips up so we can see them in the post season.

UUUU..what a game did you see the face of tebow in the first and second quarter? living in melbourne fla I will have to endur this to 2013..RAndy?why didn

Payback is a b****

Go Gators
