EXPRESS EDITION: Tuesday's news and notes

I'm going to make this an express edition because it's been a long, busy day today out at UM. First off all, for the first time this season defensive coordinator Bill Young met with the media and spoke with us about the way his unit has been playing (HERE IS THE LINK TO THE AUDIO).

Bill_young> The most interesting comment from Young is that only about 50 percent of his defense has been implemented. There will be more in the story. I would have just preferred to just provide you with a Q&A. But the sports information department said the only way we'll get to interview coordinators is if we write feature stories. Oh well, you got the story and the audio you can tune into.

> The big news this morning from UM was that coach Randy Shannon said starting right tackle Reggie Youngblood is likely out for the season. Strangely enough, I saw Youngblood out at practice. He was wearing braces on both of his legs, but was involved in stretching. Shannon told us after practice Youngblood did not practice. Stay tuned.

Lamar_miller> As many of you probably know already, the Canes landed their 15th commitment of the year and third running back in its 2009 class late Monday night when Miami-Dade's top recruit, Lamar Miller of Killian High, announced he was choosing UM. The big development in the Miller saga according to his high school coach Steve Smith was because he finally scored high enough on the ACT (20) to get into UM. Miller looked like he might be an academic casualty. Instead, he got the score he needed and got into the program he always dreamed of playing for. Miller (5-11, 205) is a Top 100 player according to Rivals. He has a Dade-best 95 carries for 742 yards and 10 touchdowns right now through five games.

He's definitely a home run threat when he has the football in his hands. I watched him play North Miami Beach earlier this year, a game in which he ran for more than 200 yards and scored 3 times. Miller is good, but needs to improve his inside running. He's definitely still a great get for the Canes and will make a nice incoming trio with Kansas product Bryce Brown (the nation's No. 1 back according to Rivals) and Davenport Ridge's Mike James. My question is which current Cane backup running back is out of a job? Shawnbrey McNeal and Lee Chambers have a combined 15 carries this season, but haven't played in weeks. Smells like someone will be getting a position change or heading elsewhere.

> Running back Javarris James and freshman receiver Thearon Collier did participate in individual drills today and there's a chance they could play this week. I'm still not optimistic either of these guys play this week. UCF is a non-conference opponent who lost to UTEP 58-13 two weeks ago. Shannon, however, did sound more optimistic about Collier than James.

"He's feeling better," Shannon said. "He ran around Sunday, a little yesterday. We'll up his tempo a little bit. If it's game time and he can help us 18, 15, 20 plays (that'll work)."

> As far as linebacker Colin McCarthyand defensive end Eric Moncur are concerned, Shannon said both could be awarded a redshirt for this season. Moncur (whom Shannon said Tuesday will definitely be out for at least three weeks, but keeps giving us the impression will be out for the year) is a fifth-year senior and McCarthy a junior played in four games this season. The NCAA rule indicates that in order to be eligible for a redshirt you have to play less than 30 percent of your season. If Miami makes a bowl game, they'll have played 13 games this season. That's still over the 30 percent limit. It's still the NCAA, so who knows.

Sam_shields> One of the more interesting comments Randy made Tuesday was in regard to junior receiver Sam Shields, who picked up the costly illegal substitution penalty against Florida State which eventually led to UM settling for a field goal instead of scoring a touchdown and taking the lead. Shields practiced Tuesday but there's a rumor circulating the message boards he could soon be off the team. Shannon left us Tuesday with this cryptic message: "We have to keep coaching him. We're not going to say, `Well, you're on the shelf.' Sam knows he's a third-year guy. Everyone is expecting Sam to make plays, and he hasn't. He's been having opportunities to do it. We'll keep coaching him hard, but we have to give these young guys a chance now. They make plays for us. You're on a roll with something, you ride it till it stops."

Here's some interesting video on what happened on the sideline after Shields was flagged on Saturday.

> One of the other more interesting comments Tuesday came from defensive end Adewale Ojomo, who was asked why UM has had so much trouble getting sacks this season and creating pressures. Ojomo didn't sugar coat his answer and basically told us UM is getting one-on-one situations and simply not winning them.

> I'll have more for you in the coming days. It's just a lot to pack into a blog. Definitely look for the story on Young tonight and for all the audio interviews from today. I spoke with Jason Fox, Sean Spence, Marcus Forston, Robert Marve, Travis Benjamin, Randy Shannon, Matt Bosher, Adewale Ojomo and of course will have Randy's press conference.

Jimmy Johnson leaves the Hurricanes and moves on to the Cowboys and builds a championship team. Jimmy Johnson is rated one of the top coaches of the game at both college and pro levels………..But Jimmy Johnson comes out of retirement to coach the Dolphins and falls on his face……Was it coaching or talent?

New England, coached by Bill Belichick, knocks the socks off the NFL and is the premiere program that all the rest are chasing……but two weeks ago, a below average Dolphin team goes to New England and kicks butt. Are they now clamoring for Belichick’s head?

The college game is different from the pros in that a college team cannot build overnight by free agency and draft selection. A college program is cyclical, with a history of the top schools arriving at the peak and then descending back into mediocrity. Why don’t they stay at the top? In the modern era its due to limits on scholarship players, Key recruits not wanting to compete for starting positions at the top schools, Head coaches moving on to the pros. (plus many nuances’)

Look at the time it took USC to arrive back at the top, almost 30 years…Notre Dame hasn’t been there since the 80’s. At Penn State, Joe Paterno has spent more time at the bottom than the top…..is it coaching? Alabama, Michigan, Clemson, and many other elite programs are still trying to climb the mountain.

This brings us to the “state of the Hurricanes”. How does a small private school with below average facilities and a very fickle fan base in an International City entice top talent to commit? Howard figured it out 30 years ago, Jimmy continued and Butch went back to the blueprint for success. While at the top of the mountain, Larry moved off course and we have been paying for it every since.

You fair weather fans must be from the MTV generation…..It has to happen now or I will change channels, reload my I-pod, pay more attention to fantasy football than reality. Count your blessings cane fans and hope Randy is given his chance to continue his rebuilding program. He has been there and knows how to get back. He will arrive as a complete coach when the cupboard is full and staff adjustments are made. There isn’t anyone who deserves our support more than Randy. You see what drove modern business into disarray, looking only to the quarter for profits and not looking ahead to build a strong business model.

Sure, get involved in the discussion, critique and offer your opinion. But you need to get behind the canes, look beyond the short term and get ready to view the football world again from the top of the mountain.

Go Canes!

That's some tough video to watch. Who were the coaches or assistants in there? I like the young guys coming in there over the last two and hope everyone gives shannon enough time to go through an entire recruiting cycle of his guys before making a decision to fire or extend.

Canes = Stock Market

Curse these injuries. It's time to step up and get some conference wins. Believe it or not, I still think we can win the conference with the way the rest of the ACC looks. We just have to take care of business and hope some others fall along the way. I'm not giving up on these guys.

Great HearACane..I agree lets recall we were doormats all through the 70's

Programs are chasing are greatness from 83...the speed, power, pro style..all reflects what UM has been doing and has done..

Coker was wrong to leave South Florida recruiting and look elsewhere..I have to believe that was a directive from somewhere...it makes no sense to stop recruiting in South Florida...

Shannon has restored that and we are quite young...we have recruited team minded winners...

Go Canes two more years until title town

What does the committment of Miller really mean? Is he an insurance policy for Bryce if he likes his visits and Arthur isnt happy?? Is Mike James going to look elsewhere due to the competition? Who on the team now might transfer or move positions once this happens??

Jason Fox and Joel Figeroa were horrible against FSU. Did Shannon say anything about them.

Glad that Shields is getting benched, but please send Glen Cook, Derron Thomas and Leonard Hankerson with him. Cook reverted back to the Glen Cook of the last 5 years Sat. Not only did he not make tackles, it seemed like he was voluntarily and without any resistance moving in the direction the blocker wanted him to move in.

Hankerson doesnt even try to catch the ball if a defender is anywhere near him. Those plays in the end zone were disgraceful.

We have a bunch of kids who were at their senior proms 5 months ago trying their best to bring us back. I hate losing too but I'm just taking it as preseason. Getting ready for next year were we will be ranked in the top 15 preseason and we'll have Oklahoma coming in week 2 to Miami. they will be ranked #1 or #2 when they get here. We beat them and we'll be top 5 in week #3. We will be better and we will dominate next year. Losing leaves a bad taste in your mouth and believe me this kids will go to Tallahasse and north Carolina and beatr them both by 3 touchdowns each. Garanteed. Fsu looses Antwon Smith who had 4 touchdowns and we bring back everybody. Let them make mistakes this year, let them feel what losing is. Let them learn to take everybody seriously. That has killed us in the past(losing to stupid team we had no business losint to) just cause we were the U. We will rise and we will be dominant. This team is for real. Every expert that talks about the canes (nationally) says yeah they losing but watch out for Miami in the next couple of years. They'll be contending for a national championship. Nationaly their being looked at seriosly and that brings recruits.BCS National Champs 2010! be patient and wait.

Q: Manny, some of the most enlightened and informed experts predicted that the Canes would finish at 9-3 in 2008 and that AJ and Spence would be stars as freshmen. How do you think AJ and Spence have done so far and how do the Canes finish this season, 7-5?

Manny great job as usual. We have got to get rid or replace the bad apples. Shields, Kayne and Hankerson way too many mental mistakes and dropped passes. Hankerson should have caught that TD pass from Jacory at the end of the half. Cook, Sharpton, Reddick , B .Johnson, Van Dyke and Ponder are all soft, have too many mental breakdowns and are very poor tacklers. solution play the more talented youngings. Shannon U got to send the message that if U don't tackle, U drop passes and mental mistakes U do not play.

that video reminds me of the miami northwestern film. if you dont know what i'm talking about, type year of the bull into youtube

How does a small private school with below average facilities

i may be alone on this one, but i do feel bad for sam shields. i agree that the coaches were right to get in his face and he should get less playing time. shields dealt with kyle wright, kirby freeman, and a lack of offensive identity as a freshman and sophomore. he was highly recruited but not as highly as mckenzie (who is also struggling), hankerson (who is struggling also), or a johnson or benjamin/d johnson. the play was inexcusable, but i give shields a second chance. think of who shields had as mentors: leggett, k jones, ryan moore. not a solid group to look up to. plus, i think shields has had three different position coaches, two different OC's, and two different head coaches.

miami lost because of third downs. miami lost because there are senior DB's who cant tackle. miami lost because fsu was better in the trenches on both sides of the ball. miami lost because the majority of the WR's are young and not physical with the other teams DB's.

but most of all, you cant come out not ready to play against your arch rival at home and go down 24-0. that is due to a hangover from the north carolna game that the coaches for some reason could not get out of the guys heads

go canes, crush ucf...all fans, continue to support this team with attendance and positive constructive criticism...they need both.

NOTE TO ALL THE BLOGGERS AND READERS OF THIS BLOG: Keep contacting the so-called local newspaper and remind them what FIU means to the South Florida community. They need to make sure that the coverage improves
Posted by: TheFIUfan | October 05, 2008 at 05:16

actually Pete, if FIU wins can you please lobby for more FIU space in the Herald. Last week's paper had about 4 or 5 articles writing about UM's loss, but only like 1 or 2 articles about our WIN. throughout the week I see pointless articles written about UM players while FIU gets shunned. lets keep winning and hopefully this'll change. right pete?
Posted by: alt7787 | October 04, 2008 at 12:33 PM

pete wants to give us space win or lose, it's his bone-headed editor who in spite of the demand apparently needs to see some w's before they give us coverage.
of course if he were in charge of the chicago tribune, he'd never cover the cubs b/c they haven't won the series in 100 years!

PETE!!!!! Make the Herald print FIU football articles on the front page of the sports page the whole week!!! No more articles about UM players. who the hell cares about dedrick epps?! People need to take notice that FIU has finally started winning.
Posted by: alt7787 | October 05, 2008 at 12:16 AM

UM should be very scared because they haven't been able to do anything in the last five years but FIU has done so much. ... sooner than later, UM will no longer be the prominent college football team.
UM should be afraid.

You my friend, know what is on the horizon!

Go 'canes!

We are so lucky to have Bill young as our DC! He is going to mold these young players into champions!

Go 'canes!!

Welcome aboard Mr. Miller and congratulations on getting the test scores you needed. Keep the mental toughness upon entering the U and realize your academics are just as important if not more than your ball carrying abilities.

Miller can play catch in the sidelines with Jacory Harris in front of 1500 screaming fans.

Way to go!!!

Hey guys remember the good old days when we were an indepenedent, showed up in camo gear, played one game that mattered a year against the Gators, didn't have to play in a conference championship game (lucky for us, we all know how that would have worked out), and were know as Quarterback U because the majority of the defenses we faced were sub-top 100 D's.........seems like yesterday.

Can the Herald create a blog where we all just reminisce about those days 20+ years ago because the future looks too bleek...... dare I say back-to-back-to-back 5-7 seasons at best.

Where is the outrage for our red zone defense? What are we allowing 20/20 in scoring and 19 of those for touchdowns? The only non touchdown was the "in your face, I gotta cover the spread" field goal by that jackass up the road. I mean damn its 3rd and goal and we cannot even stop a draw play? Hello!!!! I think even a great program like Duke has stopped someone!
And all of you asking for coach Shannon to get fired...Why? He is building a program much the same way Butch did. Give it time and you will see us return to our proper place atop the NCAA world. Like many of you I was frustrated by the lack of aggressive play calling by Nix, but look at what happened when we did open it up. More turnovers. Trick plays are only going to work so often. We need a running game much the same way Dallas does. Without it, we will lose as they did. Marve and Harris are not at a point where they will be able to do it all on there own. Too many drops and a porous defense. Hell Kyle Wright was not that bad when his recievers were catching the ball. Marve and Harris will get killed by you so called fans if the same keeps happening to them.
Lets be passionate about our team, but it will take time to return to glory. We are better off today than we were two years ago. The U will be back and sooner rather than later. I trust Shannon and our new regime!

There goes Canesrule again whacking off to Tebow and Meyer's picture. Geez can you put down the lotion for 24 hours???

Navarro, so Coach Sahnnon wants an article when you tape his coaches. Bro, in towns as diverse as Tuscaloosa, State College and SouthLA - when the head ball coach asks for this type of press...they get it.

Relax, mang -- I think it mighta made your blob better, cuz you definitely brought the heat today. Appreciate the coverage.

Q for you. One theory about offense is that the run opens up the pass...another is the pass opens up the run. We're recruiting a heck of a lot of solid HS runnngbacks. Does that give us an edge to FINALLY recruit more OLinemen?

Canes, baaby

I was at the Killian vs Lakeland game this past weekend and after watching with my own two eyes...Lamar Miller is the real deal. He scored a 60+ yards TD on the 2nd play of the game (a run btwn the tackles by the way Manny).

Killians O-line is weak and horrible. Lakeland man handled them all night. Every single yard Miller earned was exactly that, earned (from his talents alone). If he had a halfway decent O-line he'd be off the charts in terms of yardage.

Its funny because many around were asking if he was going to commit to tha U and I kept saying it depends on if he can get the test scores to enroll. Less than a week later, he commits. Welcome to da U baby! RB definately won't be a weakness for us for years to come!!!

By the way, the refs cheated dem boys when Lakeland was awarded a TD after a fumble that didnt happen was returned for a TD by an offensive lineman. The game should at least have went to OT. Killian showed character by not giving up though.

I now live in Lakeland and I wanted to see the hype of Miller with my own eyes...

Go 'canes!

I asked Shannon if this team will be in a bowl game. ''We should be in one''

''Everybody mourns differently,'' he said. ``I don't have much patience or accept losing, but I internalize. I didn't sleep for two days after these last two losses. I may lay my head down, but I don't sleep. There are growing pains.''

I will say what I have said three weeks ago. You can't win when the QB doesn't pass for 200 yards. The last drive, with 4 minutes on the clock, we saw nothing but 5 yard passes. That won't get it done. Unless Randy embraces a true passing offense, he is going to be history. That starts with Randy dumping a starter who is 1-3. If he tries to ride his good will, he will be gone.

Bryce Brown, Mike James and Lamar Miller High School videos. I can't wait for them to join!

Check out the moves Bryce Brown makes at minute 1:19. Nuff said!

A combination of speed, agility and punishing power.

Lamar Miller looks like a bruiser. Down the middle kind of guy for first downs. Very Solid!

DS stinks for college football...the field is too far away, there is no ambiance... - James

already we've seen. ...

1. lousy kickoff coverage.
2. turnover.
3. DB getting beat in the end zone.
4. running game stuffed.

did i miss anything? -Canethang

This is freaking riddiculous. Yes the players are playing the game. But especially with a young team the coaches have to teach the players to contain the qb, not make stupid penalties, etc. -eric

Are any of you suprised? Everyone put their hopes on a bunch of freshman and underclassman. You cant do that and expect to be good. We are making their QB look like a heismen candidate. we are being outcoached and outplayed - egyptian magician

These players are playing horribly right now. They aren't playing well. This stuff you learn in high school. Brandon Harris has to learn to play the ball in 10th grade. -Footballfeak40

wow our secondary is filled with a bunch of clowns.

biggest clown...Bruce Johnson

Wow. This is my first chance to see Miami play on TV. I need to remember not to pay much attention to what I read. This team is not as good as the press clippings claim. I watched FSU last week and thought they were average but after looking at this debacle it is clear Miami is one of the bottom feeders of the division. 4-5, wins, maybe, this year. - John C

www.fireshannon.com - Nate

Its going to be kinda hard to get the president of the school to pony up the cash for a decent coach when we have a dyke for a president. Maybe if this was a women's softball team. We are done maybe sports illustrated should make another plea to drop football. -Gibby

This is all on Shannon.

No doubt Shannon is a good recruiter. We've got some promising players.

But as a motivator as a game day coach - he's just lacking. This team is just not prepared to play this week. But you can look back to last year. The biggest game on the schedule the one game you had to win was against Virginia. The game to close the OB. It's not that we lost that game ...we were embarrassed. We're getting embarassed again today..

It'll be intersting to see what if any adjustments are made here at halftime. I'm not looking for a win anymore. I just want them to make a game out of it. FSU doesn't have a 21 point edge in talent over us. This should be a 3-7 point game either way. - Scorp6

its ok... just keep making excuses for shannon. - unbearable

Can somebody tell Shannon you dont get to keep timeouts or challegnes. Guy looks lost on the sidelines.- Nycanes25

FSU > UM - daneptizi

This D is terrible....way to go Bill Young! The U is done this year....safe to say. - Greg D

I'm shocked at how bad the Defense is. This might be the worst secondary we've ever had. These guys are brutal.

Brandon Harris might be a future stud but he is in over his head in this game. He has been Randy Phillips against Oklahoma bad today. - MJH

Fire Bill Young please! The defense in this game is embarrassing. I have never seen a team give up more third and longs. I have never seen a team commit so many defensive penalties. And why wont they blitz more? Every time they do something good happens. Also, if #1 Brendan Harris plays again this season I give up. The guy is a walking disaster. - AHM

We are nothing more than a run-of-the-mill program now. Nothing special, nothing worth getting excited for.

Let me know when we hire a coach who knows what he's doing. - UtahCane

I haven't been impressed by FSU.... but I have been embarrassed by UM.. - Bill S

Just horrible all the way around, Both QB's throwing picks, Young getting out coached by Jimbo Fisher, coaches not having guys ready to play in a big rivalry game. So much blame to go around to everyone. - Adam

Bill Young is a joke. FSU was like 90% successful on 3rd and 10 or longer. He blitzes on 3rd and 3 and plays prevent zone on third and long. Thats called doing things backwards. No wonder Kansas let him go so easily. Obviously it was their talent last year not him. -AHMalready the radio crew is hailing this as a great effort, no quit, something to build on, ...blah, blah, blah.

this just masks an overall lame effort. bottom line is that this team is 2-3, with two of the losses to in-state rivals.

there will be no shot at an ACC title or a decent bowl game. we're looking at another sub-.500 season.

i'll ask it again: do you think randy shannon and this coaching staff can get us to 10-2, 11-1 in the next 2-3 years?

i'm not raising my hand. - Canethang

Looking forward to Randy's post-game. Hope the players have some toilet paper, they're about to be s--t on as usual. -Canethang

Time of Possession.

39:23 FSU

Does it really matter who played QB? - Adam

the problem is that this coaching staff is in way over their heads, especially the man at the top.

unfortunately, this is not going to get any better until a legitimate coach is brought in.

you'll see false hope with wins the next two weeks against bad teams, but watch what happens against Wake, Virginia, Va. Tech, BC. (that's four more losses right there.)

Another year down the drain...now the nation is convinced we are a joke and will be until we beat a top 25 team....much less a top 5 team. This is horrbile. -Knoxcane

ff40 the shannon apologist... as certain as taxes and death. if no one needs a scapegoat, then why does shannon feel the need to throw his players under the bus?

its called class ff40, and randy has none. -canerule 9'ships

i dont need a scapegoat, im just sick of hearing shannon blame the players for everything, but not holding himself accountable.

my only hope is this...that holcutt has no ties to shannon since he didnt hire him, and he will want to bring in someone else to rebuild this program. -Chuck-0

ff40 your clueless...

You just dont get it. You probably were one that wanted coker here forever.

But you'll probably justify the coaching staff then too... - Nate

I see you left out that Shannon has never won as a Head Coach. - Canesrule 9'ships

yeah the typical cane fan isn't really known for their thoughtfulness and reason. -htcane

1rst and goal at the 4!!! and they have 12 men in the huddle. That is a freakin JOKE!! This is major division 1 football, and they could of smashed it in there and taken the lead in the game! That is all coaching and it just seems like shannon is a deer in headlights as a head coach. I like the guy, and he can stay as calm as he wants, but that don't mean u can execute the x&o's in pressure packed situations. He has failed in all the big ones in 2 years - canesrule 9'ships

Can someone tell me who else had drops during the game besides Hankerson, Farquharson, and Shields? - I'mdonebuyingseasontix

Seriously; WTF? - Orlando Cane

you know its coming santana, thats his MO...blame the players. ill be shocked if this week is any different - Canesrule 9'ships

Coach Shannon's gonna say this in his press confrence. IN MY SHANNON VOICE. " Guy's werent flying around like they do in practice", "were gonna watch film and make some adjustments for our next opponent". "the D played well just gotta make some adjustments". shannon why didnt u throw it to Ald johnson or Benjamin more? "They werent opon next question." Shannon why does your coaching staff suck? "Cause this University dosent have the ballz to fire me and hire a new coach cause the cheap".

Canes tackling s u cks!!!!!!

Canes recievers STILL S u c K !!!!

DuhWho doesn't have nearly the amount of talent that all you blog morons think they have. They honeymoon is quickly grinding to a halt.

Benjamin looks like a giant H O M O with hair extensions. whats up with that?

After reviewing all the above comments it is abundantly clear that DUHWHO's coaching staff really S U C K S !!!

Down 10 and kick a PAT? Just MORE evidence that RS has no grasp of the finer details in coaching. NONE !!

People who don't wear rose colored DuhWho glasses have been telling you jackmeats for a long time now that you will get what you paid for with Marble Mouf the clearance rack coach.

Hire 4th choice coach from within, and go 2-3.

Where's that ENORMOUS dolt 86cane with his 9-3 predictions. What an idiot

Where's that nimrod "hey fellas real canesrule here" and his glorious prediction of a huge crowd and victory. Midway through the 3rd quarter, at least 25 thousand people had filed out. Your fan base is a JOKE

FF40 has to be the biggest idiot on this blog EVEr. constantly backtracks, speaks nonsense, generally comes off as an idiot.

You're all a bunch of dimwitted idiots. Except of course those of you who are calling for Shannon's head. You guys aren't homers. You guys see what's really happening.

Slowly but surely, as predicted, DuhWho is showing us who they really are. A very mediocre team with horrible coaching. - Shannon ?????

Best QB ever to play the game, check!

Best facilities anywhere in the south, check!

One man wrecking crew at WR, check!

Lost to Old Miss (At Home), WTF?

Trap game on the plate, Oh Shyt!

Go 'canes!

Alot of the crap on here is why I don't come on here more often. This board has gone to hell in a hand basket with all the UF and Ohio State fans mixed with Canes fans who don't know how to run a real debate or realize the components to building, leading, and winning. I wish Manny could just come on here and wipe alot of this crap out, but that'd stir them up even more. What a terrible image some of these UM "fans" are giving off to people who stumble upon this blog to discuss various topics or have questions answered. The people on here that can't type and insist on talking smack about everything including the weather should look into doing more productive things with their time. I can't believe I'm already seeing "fireshannon" crap on here either. They win, you're on the bandwagon and hand out praises. But, the second they lose, they slash the tires and call for heads to roll. Anynone who's that impatient and uneducated in sports isn't going to be able to much in their own life with that mentality. Must we remember how old these guys are and the lack of experience/play time some have. Manny, I'm really disapointed with what's going up on here. I love the news posts and articles you do, but WTH. If I'm not the only real Canes fan who feels this way, please speak up.

Ok people I have to say a few things to you. First, as a MIAMI alUm, I donate several several dollars to the University and I feel like that allows me my say. Secondly, if yoU are gonna get on here and blast the coaches, players, the waterboys, the Ushers, or whomever yoU choose make sUre yoU at least spell their names correctly and have all the facts. Case in point it's spelled Nix not Nicks - come on folks show how we sUpport the "U" not kick it. These kids are playing well and it's a learning process with them. I totally Understand and hate losing as mUch as the next gUy bUt Coach Shannon can't catch the ball, make a tackle, be in the right defensive position or those typr things. Randy is MIAMI and always has been - so get off his case and let him do his job. Lastly, I really feel that most of yoU gUys on here don't even go to the games so yoU really have no reason to complain. Randy is doing a very good job so let's be sUpportive and we WILL be the "U" of old very soon. GO CANES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the post Herbal Minded. I agree (check out my post as well).

No matter what this is the best place for UM football info. The Gator Haters are unfortunately a necessary evil. With out them on the U blog showing there fear and jealousy of a true football program, it would be harder for Canes fans to grasp the fact that we are headed in the right direction with the right coach.... IF THEY AIN'T HATING U AINT DOING IT RIGHT....

While that is true, I just cant stand a lot of the debates on here that have no foundation to the arguement. For these people that hate Coker so much and wanted him to leave, I'd like alot of the people on here to follow his suit since they have the same mentality as some of the players Coker recruited. By that, I mean too many don't have the patience to take necessary steps to make sure you build the right foundation on discipline, character, academics, and team cohesion. The QB's, WR's, and LB's aren't the same will see the most immediate changes for the better. By next year we will have even more offensive weapons in Bryce Brown, Mike James, Lamar Miller, and everyone this year. Take a look at who we ARE NOT losing on offense. My worry is the O-line. We need Brandon Washington to get in here and we need some freakin senior leadership. I don't want to see people with this "I" mentality try to go pro early and use the U as a stepping stone to the NFL. Our D-Line will be better next year with the addition of more depth and experience. I believe Shannon will keep Nix since they now have their own QB, not an inheirited one. I also think Bill Young will develope into a great D-Coordinator once we cycle some of these players out and he can implement the ideas with the guys he wanted. I would be livid if UM let Shannon go before he cycles through his own players. I truly believe that we next year will be a turnaround and I'll get to see these guys play in Tampa at the ACC championship. Take a look at the rest of the ACC. It's perfect for us to develope these guys. UM is beginnning to make leaps and bound with the talent and ability their recruits. I could go on and on, but I've got work to do. And by the way, I have to buy and wear an FSU jersey to work on Friday after a wager with a coworker. I'd like to see more confidence in our team from the rest of you.

Love the coaches getting in Sam Shields face about the penalty. Sam Shields shouldn't see another down of football at UM.

This coaching staff is going to do a great job with this team. I think they are coming along great and everyone is learning something. It takes time to build a program up from the depths. Haven't we learned anything from the Butch days? We wanted to run him out of town too, he didn't end up doing too bad.

Some of you need to chill.

Do not forget that Moncur did not play the first game of the season, so he should be eligible for the redshirt.

Shields is a remnant of the stench of the Coker years. All he has done for 3 years is drop passes. If we are going to have a receiver drop passess and cause penalties, I would rather it be one of the young guns in the name of experience. Shields is an extension of the joke that was Ryan Moore and if Hankerson doesn't straighten up, he is on the same track.

What a terrible image some of these UM "fans" are giving off to people who stumble upon this blog to discuss various topics or have questions answered. ... I can't believe I'm already seeing "fireshannon" crap on here either.
