McCarthy out for FSU game

Linebacker Colin McCarthy, one of the heroes of last year's win at Florida State, will not play in Saturday's game against the Seminoles according to a late announcement by the University of Miami's sports information department Friday night.

It's listed as a shoulder injury according to the report. Consider it bad news for Miami, which is already going without starting right tackle Reggie Youngblood (leg) this week. It is, however, an opportunity for freshman linebacker Sean Spence. Look for Spence to start in McCarthy's place. McCarthy ranks third on UM's defense in tackles with 18 this season. Guess it also means Spencer Adkins will see more time at linebacker, as well as true freshman Jordan Futch.

First!

as much as i like and have faith in sean spence, this is not good news to loose experience on defense.

keys to the game:

1. Field Position, If Matt Bosher cant kickoff into the endzone or if he cant put at least each punt 40-50 yards, miami is going to have a hard time beating fsu while giving them a short field.
2. Do not let Preston Parker have a huge game. He is their best offensive player, and he is dangerous, he hurt UM before he got hurt in the game last year. Mark it down, because Mccarthy is out, Parker will get big yardage on one reverse or one over the middle pass.
3. Make Ponder/Richardson beat you. UM must stop the run and make the FSU QBs beat them.
4. Establish the run first, then throw the ball. No trick plays, no screens to an island, just run the ball straight up the middle with cooper, and mix in play action passing. FSU has a great pass rush and without a running game, marve will be running for his life the entire game. Remember that UM has had a qb knocked out of about every FSU game since dorsey was here.
5. Win the turnover battle. Even if there are interceptions or fumbles, UM must be posititve in turnover margin. If UM ties or loses the turnover battle, this will be a hard game for a young team to win.

I don't consider it bad news because thier are others who will step up and make it happen. Mccarthy has had big hits on special teams but it was Spence who has shine on regular D so I think we'll look even better come tomorrow. Now if Cook went down I think it will be a harder hit because he is our true leader on D and will be missed the most.

All hate aside ... Kick F.S.U.'s ass

Of course GameDay isn’t going to the lifeless fish house. Why would they? An “official” said that they expect “70,000 for the game.” What a load of krap. That place won’t even sniff 50k. It looks mighty empty in there with 25thousand empty orange seats. You’re football program is still heading down as you start understand what a terminally krappy stadium situation you are stuck in.

GameDay only goes to locations that have an actual gameday spirit OUTSIDE the stadium as well as inside. The only thing outside Dolphin stadium is a couple hundred acres of nothing. Virtually everyone that comments on Dolphin Stadium says the same thing;it’s a nice “venue” but a “terrible place to watch a game.” Enjoy the reality of knowing that your school just doesn't have the resources to compete at the top level anymore. No funds, no coach, no stadium, no fan base. Deterioration. You're beginning to understand.

It’s funny when DuhU outprices lower bowl tickets and fans in the upper deck ( binoculars required) are looking down at empty seats. Just a small detail of an enormous bungling of a very important matter in the history of the UM football program. Those empty seats are your new reality. Enjoy.

Tumbleweed Stadium is a joke.

Tumbleweed,

Obviously our program is still superior to the one U root for, otherwise U would'nt be on this blog. Do any of U haters notice how Miami fans never comment on other team's blogs, but yet eveyone opposing team's fans stay on ours? JEALOUSY!! Imagine how much worse it's gonna get when we start ruling again! Some of U may take your chrome to the dome!

I wish these Gaturd trolls would find something else to occupy their time with other than cyberstalking Da U on our blogs. This salad tosser whose real name is jay and who claims to reside east of I-95 in WPB is a real pain in the tuckus, probably because he is constantly tossing his partner (Daniel's) salad all day long, another Gaturd who stalks these pages under a bevy of names.
Anyhoo as Jay would say, as I have taken the tour of the demolition of the fabulous Orange Bowl, as depicted by this newspapers, what I would not give to have this renewal of the epic and premiere rivalry in all of college football played there today. The field was unmatched; the design revolutionary and perfect for the climate, and the closeness of the fans to the field, unparalleled. So Orange Bowl, wherever you are, our hearts will always have a special place for you, just as jay has a special place in his heart (and arse) for every gay bar between here and Key West.
We will see if the expected throng of 75,000 can make Joe Robbie howl and shake like the grande ole dame of college football. We lost Yankee Stadium and the Orange Bowl in the same year: how fitting. The Taj Mahals of their respective sports, more history packed into those two places than all other stadiums combined, so that the Marlins can draw their intimate crowds of a few thousand for 80 games a year. Terrbile mistake and miscalculation by miami-dade banana republic leaders.
Don't get me wrong, the new place is fabulous and recruits will love it: amazing locker room built just for Da U; unmatchable plasma jumbotrons that make other college football venues green with envy as demonstrated by gay jay's post above; club seats ameneties that don't exist anywhere (how are you gonna compete with that ben hill and doak campbell? you can't).
Yet, what a game this would have been in the rickety old orange Bowl, that sparkling emerald and orange gilded field? In the freakin' rain?!?!
Sounds like Jay has been pricing our tickets. Yes jay, we charge more than the Gaturds, which you cannot afford also. maybe if you found a job instead of spending all day on this blog trying to salve your hurts from losing to Old Mrs. and the Wild Rebel formation, you'd be able to join us for the still spectacular rivalry: UM v. FSU.

QUANTAM LEAP

Howdy Folks;
I expect a great game. This is the game Nix gets it right with the mix of run and pass. Keep FSU guessing. Stop there run game and hope our D comes up with a few picks. A couple wide rights or lefts wont hurt either.

Vote for the guy with ONE house!

GO CANES

Yeah!!! Gameday! I'm driving down from Orlando to see the best rivalry of the last quarter century. I really hope the place sells out. It's Miami-FSU people. The same game that we had Walsh to Irvin in 87, Toretta leading us to victories in wide right 1 and 2 in 91 and 92, Ken Dorsey throwing to some guy named Jeremy Shockey in Wide Right 3 00, the McGahee scamper in Wide Left 1, the Orange bowl win in wide right 4, Hester's block in the 04 reg season. 7 titles between them...and plenty of legends. Game on boys!

Tumbleweed Stadium

Keep talking and in a couple of years I will personally put my foot in your mouth. You talk a lot of crap for a little boy. Listen partner Miami will be back and it is very close to those days of superiority. Your just a hater and hate is nothing more than wasted energy. What a douchebag.............

ATTENDANCE

Dolphin Stadium - Thanks for the 8 X 10 logo on the front gate Wayne

Why are the stands so empty? My excuse is I live 3,000 miles away in Seattle. I hope ESPN stops showing the stands. - Russell

You think the FSU game is empty, the Canes game was embarassing. There could not have been more than 30,000. Huge sections were empty all over the stadium.
-nycane25

If the Canes lose a football game in Dolphin Stadium, does anyone know about it? - cane fan
The atmosphere is terrible!!!!
Are fans(sic) didn't show up. It was a joke. A huge ACC game and we get 36,000. Are you kidding me!!! ( you won't fare much better for FSU)
Where I was we were as loud as we could be. It was a good group. The old west endzone crew. The loudest part of the fans and they threw us up stairs. Yes still bitter. -pbcfrcane13

I live in NY and have season tix and donate the ones I do not use. You guys in Miami live right down the street from Dolphin Stadium and yet the stadium was half empty. So called fans down there should shut up since they never go to the games. What a disgrace - that's what the top recruits probably say. - Hurricane78

Now if we could only get some folks to show up for games! -cane fan

It wasn't too bad. Just empty as he%&. - The U Dynasty

DS suk$ arse for college football...the field is too far away, there is no ambiance... - James

Yea and guess what the canes had empty seats in the OB thats just how it is down here.-pbcfrcane13

Even with empty stadiums we are still one of the best College football programs going. -cane fan ( delusional homer)

We will see if the expected throng of 75,000 can make Joe Robbie howl. - canesrule tosses Sapp's salad...EWWWW( Joe is gone)

UM's fan base is very small and decreasing. - sarasota cane

LAME- OOOOOOOO FANS

Miami = Jury

HOW STUPID IS ISRAEL GUTIERREZ??? HE MUST HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO WRITE ABOUT.

STICK TO PLUCKING YOUR EYEBROWS, PUTTING ON MAKE UP, AND WRITING ABOUT THE HEAT!!!!

Manny,

How could the Herald of allowed Israel to write that article? He's the one starting up the debate so here it comes. The columnist being the man to fire up the Clement/Collins/Costa, Berlin/Crudup and Kyle/Kirbly.

Only you or Linda should be the ones allowed to write anything that resembled what was published today from the horse's mouth of Israel Gutierrez

Canes red zone defense is the worst in the ACC, one of the worst in the nation.
Opponents have had 10 trips to the red zone and scored all 10 times. 9 were TD's.
Combine a lousy secondary and the worst red zone D around-you better pray that FSU commits suicide by penalty like they did against Wake. Not likely.
Marve hold the ball w-a-a-y too long in the pocket and stares down his receivers. Look for FSU's pass rush to get to him frequently.
scUM drops to 2-3 after today and locks up last in the Atlantic Division.
Canester, you're kidding, right? scUM wannabes are all over the other boards.
Ruling again? LOL!!!!!! You are dreaming now.

Manny--I'd also like to file a complaint about the article Israel Gutierrez wrote today. Is there Herald now a 'tabloid'?
Making up a controversy is bogus journalism.

Manny really appreciate all you do. Only one little request. Can you tone it down on the disgruntled Jacory Harris stories. Nothing is being reported it is all speculation. Media is like man made weather and, inadverdant or not, can create some fierce storms. If Jacory or a family member came out and said Jacory is disgruntled that would be one thing. No one is even saying that. Just speculating.

Anyways thanks again Manny. On to Florida State.

I 2nd that

I have a real bad feeling about this game. I not convinced Shannon and Nix are the answers. I think we are in for a long afternoon.

fsu has a much better defense than UM even though their secondary is questionable. However Marve will probably not have time to throw and he may get rattled because the fsu D-Line and linebackers are better than ours.

The fsu overall offense is also better than ours, especially their running game. Even though Marve has looked good at times any one of the 3 QB's for fsu would beat him out for the starting job if they were here. Their offense line is young and maybe we can confuse them on occasion.

The FSU kicker is back and they have a very good punter, so the special teams advantage also goes to FSU.

Finally the 12th man will not be a factor in this game because the fsu fans always attended the games at the OB and 25-30,000 noles are expected to attend. We will be lucky if we have more Cane fans there than fsu does.

I just hope we can stay focused for the whole game and do not get embarrassed again. I hope we can keep it close but I have my doubts.

fsu 38 and Miami 17.

The game is streaming at http://www.justin.tv/mikej1224 if anyone cannot see it.

It is now apparent to me that Shannon is a great recuiter, but is clueless in terms of putting together a good coaching staff & preparing his team for games. Damn, I wish we had Butch Davis.

How do you blow 3 time outs on defense? Bad coaching!

Not sure about Shannon yet but Nix must go!

Where is the TE over the middle?

Where are the crossing routes of the middle?

Shields drops 3 passes and stays in the game?

At least the players didn't quit like last year!
