Courtside blog: UM 73, Kentucky 67 (F)

RUPP ARENA -- I'll be here in one of the most famous places to watch a college basketball game. The game will be carried on ESPN. Feel free to share your thoughts with me as this one rolls along. Shandel and I got great seats -- right next to the UM bench. This is probably the closest access we've gotten all season.

> I got to hand it to the Wildcats. This is the first place I've been in where fireworks go off during introductions. I thought Wake Forest and its motorcylcing mascot was cool. This is better.
> By the way, please let me know if Ashley Judd is in the house. If one of you guys spot on her TV, I want to know where she's sitting.
> Kentucky has come out with the same offense Ohio State used against UM in the second half, spreading the Canes wind and attacking the lanes. So far, Miami has done a decent job against it.
> Jack McClinton has come out aggressive. He's taking the ball to the basket. He's not settling for jumpers or threes. That's a great sign.
> We may finally see freshman Reggie Johnson. He just took off his sweats and looks like he might come in. Is it a false alarm?
> Got to give the Canes credit. That was probably the best first half effort I've seen from these guys ever. They thoroughly dominated that first half. Great defense.
> Kentucky fans have tried taunting Jack with 'Please Don't Slap Me' chants. He's done that. 17 points in the first half. James Dews has also played great. He has 11 points.
> Guess Ohio State is pretty good. They just knocked off No. 7 Notre Dame 67-62. If there ever was such a thing as a good loss. Looks like OSU is one.

Canes off to a hot start. I love it

Hey Manny as always great job on all the coverage. One question. Are you as worried as i am that if the canes make another tourney run that coach Haith will become a hot commodity and bolt for a better offer?

McClinton is the Tebow of our BB team..

Manny...hey what's up? I just got back from the ACC Championship game in Tampa.

VT dominated BC after LOSING to the Canes this season. Go figure, huh?

Tell Shandel I said "hi" and GO SALUKIS!

I MEAN GO CANES!!!

There's always that possibility. He's a great recruiter and he's turned UM's basketball program around. I've always been of the belief from talking to Frank the one job he would probably leave UM for without question is Wake Forest. It's his hometown.

49-32 15m

49-38 11m

stuck at 49...

unstuck ... 54-41 9m

Here we go again. Cmon punks! Work the clock, run a real offense.

56-45 7m

56-50 5m

This is embarrasing

58-52 4m

BA ... OK ... 60-52 3m

Why is the offense just standing around

BA ... A-OK ... 65-56 1m

This is one that won't even feel good if we win

Dews don't ... choking ... 65-60 :56

70-66 :24

72-66 :09

This is one that won't even feel good if we win

73-67 F

I FEEL GOOD

still a good win, on the road....
but we need a point guard and a perimeter shooter..

Manny,

Haith continues to show no faith in people like Gamble, DeQuan Jones, Adrean Thomas, and especially Rios. What was once thought to be a team with depth, looks amazingly thin during crunch time. Why are these players so slow developing? And why doesn't he run an effective/traditional ball movement offense. Everyone stands around and waits for Jack or 3's or both. Always great to win in Rupp arena, don't get me wrong, but team looks a little vulneralbe right now. Thoughts?

vulnerable compared to whom ...
enjoy the win before a loud, proud, sour crowd ...

UM held UFs offense to its lowest points total.

Says a lot about our team's future after tonight.

GO CANES

From Scout.com, headlines read:

"There has been a change of plans for the nation's top running back prospect, BRYCE BROWN.".

Anybody know what this is about?

-I know I have a reputation for suspending folks from the blog, but I'm officially laying the law down on Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald. He's suspended from hanging out with me on the road. For the third time, he was denied entrance into a bar because of his clothing. This time, his jeans were too baggy. The night still turned out a success as we ended up having a couple drinks with comedian David Alan Grier at the Louisville Wet Willies, which has a special egg nog Call-A-Cab for the holidays.

I thinks the reason he keeps getting deny from place to place is because the Herald is not paying him enough, so he can't afford to dress nice.

Bryce is not going to come to UM, early..

De La Hoya quit in the 8th..

LOTS OF OPEN JOBS in College Football these days for NIX. So hurry up and get one before they go away. Or you will be watching games on TV.
NIX NIX NIX NIX NIX
Did you see the OU game
did you see a real Offense tonight
did you learn something

If Bradford stays OU will score 50 on us next year.
If NIX stays IT"S A SHOTout

A: I agree Norm. But really it's just because I'm a thug. I'm too gangsta to get into some of the finest, high profile nightclubs in Louisville, Gainesville and Charlotte.

great job UM Cagers .

Huge win that will pay dividends for the NCAA tourney. Ohio State looking like a top 10 team, so not a bad loss. We would hav e crreamed them if not for the b.s. call against Jack. Have the officials been suspended yet?

Manny...U are ALWAYS welcome at Canespace! Check this out and tell me what U think:

Another ACC win over the SEC. Check the win-loss stats ACC vs SEC in football also. I bet ACC won. Save for UF and Alabama, SEC in football is the Big 2 and the little dwarves. Whereas the ACC is competitive up and down the line.

live by the 3, and die by the 3....don't we have a 12-15' jumper...[perimeter shooter]?

Congrats to VT... AND THE ACC TEAMS WHO BATTLED.

Parity played a major role this year, probably more then any other year. SEC AND ESPN says we're just middle of the road based upon winning records but they're not considering that we ( 7/8 teams) are very... very good and were kicking our own azzes in any given week. How many times did the leader change hands in the Coastal and the Atlantic throughout the season... Would have loved to have seen the ACC play the SEC and see how many SEC teams would be standing. Other then Alabama and Florida, giving due respect, but If Mississippi St did it to Florida... Then so could any of us on any given Saturday.

For my money, I thought GT was the team most improved, although you can throw in 6 teams that were nip and tuck to the end.

At 7/5 we just were not good enough. Next year, should be interesting, with many teams on the rise. All Miami needs is experience, maybe a coach, a game plan that works, about 10 Lineman and DB's, a 225 RB like Hershel Walker and then select one QB as the leader and maybe, just maybe, we can beat NCSt... WTF. Not taking anything away from NCSt, as they played as good as VT or FSU on that day they beat us.

If FSU can get their foot out of the way and stop tripping themselves with suspensions, they could have been the team to beat in 08

As I said before... GT looks impressive and will be a force to be reckoned with.

VT and Beamer... what can I say... good team... them sombitches...LOL

Davis and NC... you know, no need to say it!

Virginia... May the birds of paradise fly over their stadium for 100 years until we beat them 40 to nothing!

So here is to all in the ACC... Toast!!!

live by the 3, and die by the 3....don't we have a 12-15' jumper...[perimeter shooter]?

MANNY IS A SCHLUMP ?????

Shandel Blob ^^^

Alright Manny, time to start talking recruiting! Where U at?

I try to get Manny and Shandel to manage their blogs but it is more complicated at major media sources to do so.

the little dic(k)tator …

RUN AMOK

James...your vulgar language will not earn you any respect or bonus points on the blog. Is that what your mother taught you to say?

Posted by: 86Cane | June 22, 2008 at 08:41 PM

I'll send your comments to Shandel and his editor in the morning for further action.

Posted by: 86Cane | June 22, 2008 at 08:43 PM

I'm going to talk to Manny and his editor via email today to try to get them to do something about it ASAP.

Posted by: 86Cane | May 02, 2008 at 09:32 AM

So let me get this straight. You get your feelings hurt on a blog, and so you email and tattle on someone who continuously shows you up? That's very hall-pass monitor like! Maybe instead of trying to kiss ace you could just be a man of your word and boycott this blog.
