Cards-Ravens Super Bowl would help Canes

Playoffs? NFL playoffs at Eye On The U? Normally, I wouldn't bother bringing them up in this blog. But these days -- with recruiting really heating up -- you never know what can help and hurt. And my guess is you probably won't find a bigger Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens fan this coming week than UM coach Randy Shannon.

Edgerrin_jamesWhile Philadelphia and Pittsburgh don't have any UM players on their teams, the Cards and Ravens have seven former Canes between them. You know who they are: running backs Edgerrin James (Arizona) and Willis McGahee (Baltimore), safeties Antrel Rolle (Arizona) and Ed Reed (Baltimore), defensive lineman Calais Campbell (Arizona) and linebackers Tavares Gooden (Baltimore) and Ray Lewis (Baltimore). But if there was ever a real reason for Canes Nation to root for an Arizona-Baltimore Super Bowl in Tampa Feb. 1, it's recruiting.

While recruits obviously know all about Miami's history (the five rings and the countless first round picks) Ray_lewishaving something fresh and as big as the Super Bowl to talk about in those living room and in-home visits with mom and dad could prove quite valuable to Shannon. Let's not forget all the times those former Canes could throw up a U during Super Bowl week and on media day. Writers are sure to jump on that angle. In the end, that's some nice, very visible free advertising for the Canes. And, at the perfect time for Shannon, who is coming off a mediocre 7-6 season.

> After finally getting back home from the snowy Boston Sunday night, I got a chance to have a long conversation with one of my guys at The U who told me the NFL -- and helping players reach it -- is what Shannon has been selling hard to recruits over the last couple of weeks. And, my source told me, that's why Shannon is intent on bringing in an offensive coordinator who will run a pro style offense. "Whoever thinks coach Shannon wants a conservative offense is wrong," he said. "He wants an offense that's going put up points and help guys get to the next level. That's who we are. We've always been about winning and getting guys to the pros. Ask Reggie Wayne, Andre Johnson and all those guys how much it helped to play a pro style. It got them ready."

> As for the offensive coordinator search, I was told there is now some level of urgency on the coaching staff's part (not athletic director Kirby Hocutt) to fill the spot in the next few weeks. The reason: UM wants to be able to show recruits like Bryce Brown (a soft commitment) what type of offense the team will run. UM isn't scared it'll lose Brown (who is supposed to visit either Jan. 23 or 30) but the Canes want to ensure him and other potential recruits the offense will be in good hands. Brown, the nation's No. 1 running back, visited Kansas State over the weekend and told The Manhattan Mercury he's opened up conversation with Tennessee.

> By the way, I've also been told nobody has officially been interviewed in person for the OC job, but several candidates have been contacted over the phone. Our Barry Jackson reported Sunday Mike Shula was one of the ones to decline interest when asked. Shannon, who is not at the College Football Coaches Association meetings in Nashville this week (the majority of his staff is), will likely begin formal interviews this week. Shannon had been on the road doing in-home visits with recruits over the past week -- including making a stop at the home of receiver Rueben Randle, Rivals.com's No. 1 pass-catcher. Randle has told several publications he is now considering Miami again because the Canes got rid of Patrick Nix.

Good points Mr.Troutman, and like Charles Barkley said, "It's people with degrees, that work for people that AIN'T GOT DEGREES!"

Bryce Brown isn’t coming because he has a brother at UM. Who better than his brother to tell him what a place is like??? The fact that he is wavering should tell you that whatever his brother has shared with him isn’t strong enough to make him want to come to UM. When Arthur Brown is on the bench and "No tackling" Glen cook is on the field then something is really wrong. Miami’s coaching staff fails to see that you should build your system around the talent you have. You can’t have a beast like Arthur and leave him on the bench. Good coaches tweak their system to get the best out of the talent they have.

Im assuming 7 um grads would be the most in the superbowl if that were to happen. Is there any other school close?

epb , guess what, Ed Reed was only recruited by Tulane. We made him get better at UM. The past 7 years we have always had a highly touted recruiting class. It’s all about how you develop the talent. What did Miami do with talent that it recruited? When was the last time a Miami player came to Miami and get better with each year. Calais Campbell got worse with each year. DVD was worse this year. The list goes on. The coaching Staff from Coker to Shannon have really being bad at developing players Even worse Shannon tried to become the total opposite of Coker and that hasn’t worked. How many times have you seen Miami teams get blown out as we have seen under Shannon???

Gaytors come up short again. While the The U was playing for National Championships, the Gaytors were playing for SEC crowns. Now that Florida has finally caught up, The U is playing in Super Bowl rings. How's that @ss taste Gator Nation?

It also happens to big name coaches!

Steve Spurrier and the South Carolina Gamecocks are "no longer welcome" at Tucker High, one of the state's top producers of college football prospects. Tucker coach Franklin Stephens told the AJC of his proclamation after speaking with Spurrier on Sunday night. It had to do with Tucker linebacker Jonathan Davis, who had committed to South Carolina but was told on Friday that the Gamecocks had withdrawn the scholarship offer. On Friday, Stephens had a "heated" conversation with Gamecocks assistant Shane Beamer, who ultimately said "South Carolina had to do what was in South Carolina's best interests when it came to recruiting," according to Stephens.

Mike Shula runs a VERY conservative offense. we need to pay one of these top OC, and they will come to UM.

Ravens/Cards would definitely help Miami recruiting. Money is what makes this world go around. Money is a priority for every person in this world. So if they see all these Canes in the superbowl it just reminds them that coming to Miami will give them the best opportunity to make that money.

407, I think next year is really big for Shannon. He needs to show improvement. However, Shannon was not left with much when he took over. Coker had a semi-pro team. I did not see any blowouts this past season except for the 4th quarter of the UF game. Most of the "big" plays were being made by freshman. Spence looks like he can play on Sunday's. Is that coaching or talent? As a freshman, it is probably more talent than coaching at this point. Anyway, all of the quality coaches did not move this year. Do you think big money programs like Auburn or Tenn. are in a better spot now with very unproven coaches?

hey 407 WOW! gosh you are sooooo right shannon is horrible! My eyes are now open, and I believe that the 5 game win streak was the worst that we ever played! Thanks 407!

Offer Tony Dungy the offensive coordinator job. The worst he can do is say no. Put in that pro style offense we are looking for and Dungy gets to enjoy the sun in what would probably be a semi retirment for him compared to the stress of the NFL.

The difference between Florida and Miami is that, this side of Emmit Smith, Miami produces far better NFL Players - not even close. Just ask Tim Tebow why he isn't coming out - His QB sneaks and TE tosses will not work in the NFL.

I have be silent over the last month about the QB situation in Miami. But I can no longer keep silent. If the young man wants to leave... Let him. One problem I believe he is listening to everyone including his father EXCEPT the real person he needs to listen to.. Himself. I believe that his leaving will only hurt him in the long haul. His leaving shows me he has no character... no heart. If the fathers condidtion is so demanding then drop out of school stay with dad and then return to college after the man either recovers from Cancer or dies. Then re-dedicate yourself to your passion of football. Right now he looks like he is not a team player and when things go wrong he is looking for every way out except the real reasons. Now on to Fla's T-bow. Son you made a real big mistake.... Take the money and run. You will never get a higher draft # then going pro right now. Your off. line will not be able to allow you the comfort that you have had over the last years due to graduations. Other teams are going to know your every moves now and I think you are going to get hurt and not be able to further your dreams. I know you are a class act but the time for you is now... One more year in college after you have already set & met your goals is just not logical. Take the money and run... when you get the chance go for the $$$ do not hesitate. I know you have faith and that will get you far... But money is what you need to exsist. Thanks for letting me vent bye now

Notice to all Gayturds...

This will be your last year of NC runs for a long time! Timmy and Percy will be bye bye and SUB-Urban will either go to Notre Dame after they buy Weis a Cheeseburger joint or to the NFL!

Canes fans, have faith! We'll be back sooner than you think.

Once a Cane, Always a Cane!

407,
If you are going to bash Shannon, at least have a better argument than Coker. Coker is the reason why we are in this situation. Coker took over a veteran team in 2001 and a team on a 11 game winning streak. He took over the empire that Butch Davis put together in 4 YEARS. Coker just had to not screw it up.

Don't forget the Peach Bowl that Coker backed us into where we got killed on National TV 43-3 or something along those lines. And don't forget that Coker's teams routinely quit the last two years of him being here and that attitude had to be cleaned out when RS took over.

RS has a ways to go before I give him credit for being a good head coach. I will admit that. However, he needs to be judged on 3 to 4 years of work with HIS own recruits and his vision. You know Jimmy Johnson's choice was RS. Don't you think Jimmy knows something more about football than you. Give the guy a fair chance. If we are 7-6 next year it's time to think of another direction but not yet.

Manny- I keep reading mixed messages about Bryce Brown. Ok, so he is paying a visit to Tenn, etc. Is he really thinking twice about the U now? Please say it isn't so. If true, Randy Shannon should be RIGHT NOW, on the first plane to Wichita or whatever, get off the plane, take a cab directly to his house, and plant himself on the front door ASAP!

We've got to land this kid.

Offer Tony Dungy the offensive coordinator job. The worst he can do is say no. Put in that pro style offense we are looking for and Dungy gets to enjoy the sun in what would probably be a semi retirment for him compared to the stress of the NFL.

I hope this was a joke cause it might be the dumbest post ever.

we can get randle if we hire scelfo...

Offer Tony Dungy the job??!!? Dungy is a great coach (he may even go to the hall of fame). He turned the whole Tampa Bay organization around and help to maintain Indy as one of the top 5 teams while he was there. Dungy, though, is a defensive coach (ever heard of the Tampa 2 defense?). So while he is a good coach, he would be a horrible choice for OC, since his fortay is defense.

GoCanes, are you really that ignorant? Or are you really a Gay-tor fan that see's the future.

Here's one of your honest Gay-tor buddies,s that see's the future:

You just have to look at the past to see the future.

Get honest or educated, maybe both.

Are you that ignorant says the idiot that cannot read and fails to realize that I was responding to an earlier post. DUMB@SS.

gary feeman of ITU reports that dion sims has narrowed his list to two and the canes are on it. anyone know who the other team is (ohio st. or mich. st, i would assume)? any word on when he is gonna make a decision...we need a TE badly and this guy is very athletic!

Posted by: Caniac | January 12, 2009 at 07:47 AM

It's gotta be Mich. St. My understanding is they've been the team to beat all along. Great news that its down the us and them. He would definitely be a featured player since he's very talented and the only other two TEs we have will graduate next year. He would be a Greg Olsen type. And he could probably play BBall with Haith's up and coming squad.

Offer Tony Dungy the offensive coordinator job. The worst he can do is say no. Put in that pro style offense we are looking for and Dungy gets to enjoy the sun in what would probably be a semi retirment for him compared to the stress of the NFL.

Someone execute this retard and put him out of his misery.

He'd be a fool to go to 'SC. He'd be buried on their depth chart for years. They're loaded with 5 star tailbacks.

^^^Bryce that is.

LACanefan, did you ever see the 2007 article in SI that featured all nine of USC tailbacks (before Moody transferred)? All of them were five star recruits I believe.

Yeah, TonyCane, good place to get lost in the shuffle.

I think Randy Shannon supporters are just lying to themselves and I will tell you why.
Many of us started out as Randy supporters.
One thing I know is that because of Randy’s story and the fact that he was a part of the U family we all hoped he would succeed.
At least I hoped deep down he could stay at the U for a very very long time.
Due to that wish we had for him, most of us fans found ways to cover for him or deflect blame from him; all because we wanted him to succeed.
When he made the mistake of making Kirby Freeman the starter we said he could see Freemans heart.
When Freeman failed, we blamed Freeman.
When Miami got blown out at Oklahoma, we said if only that first pass wasn’t intercepted the game could have been different.
When he lost the team his first year and got creamed every game down the stretch we blamed the players who had been by our allegations “infected” by Coker
When we embarrassed ourselves and lost 48-0 to close the OB we said the players were Coker’s recruits.
When it was apparent he lost that team, we called for the “Cancers” to be eliminated
We even tried to justify his 5-7 season as a “Step in the right direction”
The Cancers were removed, another recruiting class was added and Now Shannon had 2 classes he recruited in place.
Then we began this season.
He suspends Marve 8 months after the fact; we blamed Marve and said Shannon is just being a “Just Disciplinarian”
When he started his retarded QB shuffle we gave him our trust even though deep down we were skeptical.
When he complained about Florida running up the score, even though we knew it was sour grapes, we went to bat for him
When the Offense looked lost and started copying plays from the previous week’s opponent we blamed it on Nix.
When we listened closely and realized that he always blamed the players for losses and never called out the coaching staff we paused.
When he and his “high School” assistants attacked Sam Shields during the FSU game, we cringed.
When he refused to call out his son the worst Center ever in UM history, we were bothered.
When Coach Bill Young stood up as a man after a loss and put the defensive woes on himself instead of the players, Shannon lost us.

So because people want Shannon to succeed, for every misstep he has his fans find a scapegoat.
The truth is this, these people are only familiar with Shannon the “fairy tale”
The guy who survived a hard life and made it out of the hood.
What they don’t know is Shannon is a terrible person to work for.
He has horrible People Management Skills and a fellow black man who covered the Canes went on South Florida Radio and called him out for his horrible ways.
In addition, they don’t want to accept that the man is horrible at player development and his X’s and O’s skills are nothing to write home about.
All I want any Shannon supporter to do it think a little.
How many weeks was it from our last game of the season to the Emerald Bowl.
So that wasn’t enough time for this coaching staff to figure out its 2 min offense????
Instead of concentrating on coaching he was hatching up his plan to get rid of Marve.
A very petty divorce that makes the University look small.
Also, Shannon supporters need to ask themselves one other question, wasn’t Shannon part of Larry Coker’s staff???
How come they can get incensed and even scream bloody murder when Coker’s era is brought up but for some reason they find a way to absolve the Defensive coordinator of that Era of any blame.
Shannon was part of the failures during Coker’s Era and now he is the Architect of the failures during his tenure.
He has fired the OC and DC he picked to start this job with him.
That goes to show he has poor judgment at the very least
For success to return to the U, one of 2 things have to happen;
Either UM lets go of Shannon and gets someone better or Shannon completely overhauls his coaching approach.

Great post 407, the kelly interview rings more true everyday.Ask yourself this, after the great defenses we had when he was the DC, he was never offered a HC job I wonder why

U must be one bored mofo 407! Shannon isn't going so just shut your dumb a** Gator mouth!

Sorry 704 but I am actually a Cane. I went to UM and never msiised a home game from 1998 to 2001. So please never insult me again by calling me a gator.

407, all I have to say is that the "U" will be back and Shannon will be leading the troops!!! Why do people say he is a bad player developer isn't Merriweather, Beason, Phillips(all 1st round picks) playing well??? Isn't Calais Campbell, and Tavares Campbell in the league??? I think he develop these players just fine. This shows he can develop talent. But how can you come up with all your conclusions in 2 years come on, man.

And to many of you who try to compare Shannon and Meyer together please stop!!!! Meyer is a great coach, but besides experience, he was never in a predicament similar to Shannon's tenure in Miami. Meyer came in and inherited a 9-3 team with a qb who was always in Heisman talks before the season began. Chris Leak was a great passer, Dallas Baker and Andre Caldwell were great college players(look at stats). Zook UF squads were always in the mix of things in a difficult SEC but were young and inconsistent(which resemble the canes). Senior leadership and young talent is what helped them win that title in 2006. Tebow had Chris Leak to look up to, while Marve had Wright and JH had no one.

The Canes will be fine and Shannon supporters aren't in denial. Their just rational thinkers. No one is saying that he will eclipse Joe P., what many of us is saying give him some time and when you do that you will see changes. Yeah we are talented but you had 18 and 19 year olds facing strength and speed that they have never encounter in their lives. No matter what you all think its big difference in strenth between 18 year olds and 21 year olds.

The Canes will be back!!!!!! Go Canes!!!!!!!!

Also 704, just because you are too dumb to string together more than 4 sentences isn’t a reason to say I’m bored. You should have taken your English classes serious in school. Well I’m not surprised you are a Shannon fan.

Even when we suck, we are still good. Take a look at these numbers in the last decade.

Florida
National titles: 2 (2006, 2008 AP/BCS)
Overall record: 87-29
Bowl record: 4-5

LSU
National titles: 2 (2003 BCS and 2007 AP/BCS)
Overall record: 90-27
Bowl record: 7-2
Heismans: 0

Miami
National titles: 1 (2001 AP/BCS)
Overall record: 83-29
Bowl record: 6-3

Ohio State
National titles: 1 (2002 AP/BCS)
Overall record: 91-23
Bowl record: 4-5

Oklahoma
National titles: 1 (2000 AP/BCS)
Overall record: 102-19
Bowl record: 4-5

Texas
National titles: 1 (2005 AP/BCS)
Overall record: 96-18
Bowl record: 6-2

USC
National titles: 2 (2003 AP & 2004 AP/BCS)
Overall record: 93-22
Bowl record: 6-2

These facts show you that even thought we didn't make it to a bowl game this decade, we have almost the same number of Wins and the same number of Loses that the GAYtors, And I'm not going to get into the OHIO STATE NC that shouldn't be theirs.

jr.h2, first of all, Florida was 7-5 the season before Meyer arrived, please check your facts. Btw, Shannon took over a 7-6 team. Secondly, If Calais Campbell was eligible to come out after his first year he would have been a top 3 pick. By his second year he got worse. DVD went from been a possible great Shutdown corner in year 1 to a lost player his second year. Carlos Armour, Chavez Grant, why haven’t this staff help those guys become better. Like every other Shannon supporter you are quick to say players are young. Here is the sad truth; the Gators are younger than us. That Gator defense: Younger than Miami. That gator O-Line: Way younger than Miami. Also, that Georgia Tech team that totally destroyed us is also younger than us. The college football landscape is full of young teams. So please stop making excuses for Shannon, it’s annoying. I am a proud Cane and I will say it: WE SUCK RIGHT NOW. We need to make changes to move in the right direction. We don’t need to fire our coaches to have change. The Change starts from us recognizing that we are not getting results from our current approach. We need to tweak what we are doing cos its not working. Below is our schedule next year, please be honest with yourselves and ask yourself how we will do next year.

Great showing of Jacory Harris on ESPN's College Football.

They listed Jacory Harris with Bradford and Tebow as the best QB's going into next yr.

Really, some love for Jacory.

Hi 407, good point, BUT the Gators had slightly more experience overall (14 upperclassmen to the Hurricanes 13), and that experience was at key positions (quarterback, wide receiver, defensive line). The performances of the upperclassmen for both teams demonstrates the recruiting (and perhaps development) edge that Myers had over Miami between 2005 and 2007:

Quarterback:
GATORS: Tim Tebow (Jr)
CANES: Robert Marve (Fr)

Experience Edge: Gators, big time.

Wide Receivers:
GATORS: Percy Harvin (Jr), Louis Murphy (Sr),
Riley Cooper (Jr)
CANES: Aldarius Johnson (Fr), Thearon Collier (Fr), Travis Benjamin (Fr)

Experience Edge: Gators, big time.

Halfbacks:
GATORS: Kestahn Moore (Sr), Brandon James (Jr), Emmanuel Moody (Soph)
CANES: Tavaris James (Jr), Craig Cooper (Soph), Derron Thomas (Sr)

Experience Edge: EVEN

Tight Ends:
GATORS: Aaron Hernandez (Soph)
CANES: Chris Zellner (Sr)

Experience Edge: Hurricanes

Offensive Line:
GATORS: Phil Trautwein (Sr), Jim Tartt (Sr), Maurkice Pouncey (Soph), Mike Pouncey (Soph), Marcus Gilbert (Soph)
CANES: Reggie Youngblood (Sr), Xavier Shannon (Sr), Joel Figuerosa (Soph), Jason Fox (Jr), Orlando Franklin (Soph)

Experience Edge: Hurricanes, slightly

Defensive Line:
GATORS: Carlos Dunlap (Soph), Troy Epps (Jr), Matt Patchan (Fr), Jermaine Cunningham (Jr)
CANES: Allen Bailey (Fr), Adewale Ojomo (Fr), Antonio Dixon (Sr), Marcus Forston (Fr)

Experience Edge: Gators

Linebackers:
GATORS: A.J. Jones (Soph), Brandon Spikes (Jr), Dustin Doe (Jr)
CANES: Romeo Davis (Sr), Sean Spence (Fr), Glenn Cook (Sr)

Experience Edge: Hurricanes

Safeties:
GATORS: Dorian Monroe (Jr), Major Wright (Soph)
CANES: Anthony Reddick (Sr), Ryan Hill (Jr)

Experience Edge: Hurricanes

Cornerbacks:
GATORS: Wondy Pierre-Louis (Jr), Joe Hadden (Soph)
CANES: Chavez Grant (Jr), Bruce Johnson (Sr), Demarcus Van Dyke (Soph)

Experience Edge: Hurricanes

Kicker/Punter:
GATORS: Caleb Sturgis (Fr), Chas Henry (Soph)
CANES: Matt Bosher (Soph)

Experience Edge: Even

If you isolate to just the freshmen and sophmores, who performed better? This may be the best way to evaluate Randy Shannon verus Urban Meyer:

FSU, VT and w/o question OU are losses
NC, GT and Clemson are toss ups
Everyone else "should" be a win
so at best 9-3 and at worse another 7-5

Which means 8-4, hey its an improvement good enough for the Champs Sports Bowl!

I want Bryce Brown.. but if we dont get him, let me tell you Lamar Miller is the real deal. STUD!

The Gaytors would've never beaten USC - that is why we need playoffs in college football... it is a shame that a team who lost a home game to an unranked opponent and another team (OK) who lost to a 1-loss team (Texas) played for a national championship. It is a joke and anyone who knows anything about college football would agree that USC was the best team in 2008... The Canes are in trouble again next year based on that schedule - what will happen to all Shannon supporters if the team goes 500. or less next year? Teabow better stay in college because he has no future in the NFL (4th round pick at best and he will never start a game at qb).

8-4, 7-5 in worst case scenario. The only one that I feel we are truly longshots for is Oklahoma. Notwithstanding what UF did to them with a month to prepare, Stoops' team absolutely destroyed almost every team that they played this season.

10-2 best case scenario.

407 ... U Sir have your outline for a best selling tragic story ...

Your concise observations are hauntingly chilling of the present and probable future "State of the Program" at Miami... Of course U will get hammered for truly seeing and articulating just what is fact right NOW by those that mistake being a "loyal" U fan while being blinder wearing, pied piper followers of what Kirby and Donna are trying to force feed down our throats ...

Now let the (No) Excuses comince and continue...

When and if the smoke clears, and we get those '80's-90's brilliant coaching minds back on board to oversee this program, my every 4 year 6 figure contribution will continue...

Unless U have any idea who Tate, Curci, Elliot, Selmer and Saban are... Save it Junior new U fans...

U make me seem like a genius ...

Take off the orange n green glasses then get Ur facts straight ...

Typical

407, check your facts - Gator. "Gator O-Line Way younger than UM's" - get your facts right, but your a gator, so what should we expect.

1) We were the youngest football team "of starters on the field" in the country. That's a fact. (Div 1)

2) We were the second youngest team "overall" in the country. That's a fact. Or maybe every game day announcer, just had it wrong. I don't think so. (Div 1)

3) GT's O-Line was made up of Jr's and Sr' with starting experience. A veteran O-Line. That's a fact.

4) Your gator info, isn't even close, according to the Game day announcer's, that is. Again they must have been wrong. When they stated

- "this youthful Hurricanes Team has held up well against a more veteran gator team", but I doubt it.

And to match O-Lines - it's not even close in terms of veteran depth, UF wins hands down. Defense, again it's depth and experience of that depth.

Yea, GT kick our butts, oh well. They didn't turn the ball over like they did in all there losses. A we really sucked at D-Line and LB's. With McCarthy well and Spence with a season under his belt and Harris starting "full time" at QB it's a different story.

But most importantly, get your facts right. A sophomore with 2 years STARTING experience is going to be a better player than a Jr or Sr with 1-1/2 yrs or less STARTING experience, all things being the same. And that's true at any position.

So, just looking at a teams depth chart just doesn't get it done. (But your wrong there also.)

Anyway your whole message has been biased every time you post.

So, when you release that lip lock from Meyers' crotch, get back to us with some more of your biased hate towards UM. We enjoy it!

'77 U Grad, SURE. Like we really believe that crap.

Boy, you Gay-tors have stooped to a new low.

Get Lost.

Remember, I said it first...Rios sucks

407, your posts are some of the best ones in a while, people don't want to admit where the program is at right now, they think a playoff game is going to help a kid change his mind with one month in recruiting left.....i am hopeful the canes will be good one day too but it wont be under shannons watch

Dear all pro Canes,
We all know that The U is the only choice for great High School players to attend. At this time Cane nation can really use your help, after you make one of this game changing plays, which is inevitable, remember where U came from and THROW UP THE U!!!

It's true. The purpose of college football is to win. But you don't need a spread offense or that triple option b/s to do it. USC runs a pro offense, and I think Texas and Ohio State still run it too. All of those teams have been consistent winners the last couple of years. Any good defense will shut down the spread, which many of you just witnessed last thursday. Same with the triple option.

There is nothing wrong with the pro set, U just need the right pieces. Good QB, Good TE, and a strong RB. We got 2 outta 3, we just need that Shockey/Franks like TE, and a couple McKinnie like linemen, and we'll be set.

407, I don't know about all these other fans, but I'm not one of them drinking the kool-aid. HOWEVER, this season failed for many different reasons.

Youth - Like it or not, there was alot of it on this team. And it hurt us.

No Senior leadership - This one hurt us even more. Without someone guiding these freshmen, showing them the ropes, they basically had to go through baptism by fire. You look around the nation, Florida, Alabama, USC, they all have talented freshmen but they also have seniors to look up to.

Lack of overall talent - Nuff said

Coaching - Yes, the coaching sucked and left much to be improved.

But you can't throw Shannon under bus yet. You can't say he is a bad coach because the pieces are not there yet. Yes, he screwed up the time management against Cal and that was inexcusable. No doubt. But until we have all the pieces needed to win a National Championship, you can't honestly say the blame lays on Shannon's shoulders. He deserves at least two more years. The program is where it's at now because of Larry Coker and people do not realize the damage he inflicted in his time here. I honestly do not expect a NC until 2011, at the earliest.
