Marve shows true colors after ruling

Eugene Marve went on a local radio station last week and apologized for what he said after his son was told by UM coach Randy Shannon he wouldn't be allowed to transfer to Florida, Tennesee or LSU as well as any state schools or any schools in the ACC.

He made a passionate plea that all his family wanted was for their son to be close to home. He talked about Robert_marve2having cancer, how his ex-wife was struggling financially and how Robert chose Miami to begin with because it was close to home. Thursday, UM heard Robert Marve's appeal and a three-person committee voted to keep the restrictions on the three SEC schools and the ACC, but leaving open the possibility to play at USF and UCF. Apparently, the Marve family still isn't happy with that. Why? Isn't playing close to home what Robert Marve and his family really want? Isn't that possible now at UCF and USF -- two schools who will be playing Miami over the next few years?

The truth is that really isn't what matters to the Marves. What matters is probably what Randy Shannon has been getting chastised for -- having a chance to go to those schools Marve's representatives were rumored to have made contact with before he formally decided to leave UM. In the end, we'll never know for sure if any of that happened. Nobody is ever going to admit contact was made or clarify if it wasn't. But we will have tonight's reaction from the Marve camp and that speaks volumes.

By the way, if Shannon's stance on transfers and the way he treats his players is so horrible, why don't we hear Jermaine McKenzie, Daniel Adderley and the many other players who have transferred out of this program crying?

407, you seem to have gaytor envy. If you think Coker didn't leave the us bare on talent, I challenge you to name anyone that RS coached last year and this year that is worth a damn. Kyle Wright? Kirby Freeman? Bruce Johnson? I'm struggling to think of anyone. Now look at the freshmen that RS has brought in. Seriously, you hate RS so much that you don't even make sense when you talk.

PCola Cane..

those players you mentioned arent worth a because they werent coached up. you wanna talk about freshmen playing well? thats your gauge for how randy is doing? if i remember correctly, sam shields had a nice freshmen yr, hows he working out?

atlcane...
sure a few players have turned out to be great ball players, as you have mentioned. but what about kyle, kirby, leggett, shields just to name a few. dont tell me coker didnt recruit well, we had some really nice classes under him. the staff just couldnt help them get any better. thats why boise would destroy us. their players get better, ours...not so much lately.

"We had so many freshmen and many of you tend to forget that it is a strength difference between 18 year olds and 20 year olds."

No matter how much we hope, no matter how much we blog, this is the truest statement of all. I saw this team in person against NC State and you can see the potential. But they were still 18 and 19 playing against 20 and 21 year olds. There is a physical difference.

im not expecting miami to win a NC in randys first 2 yrs. hell, to be honest, im not that disappointed with the play... the guys are young and will make mistakes. what tells me we are doomed is that randy is no better today than he was 2 yrs ago. piss poor clock management, team never prepared, beaten by weaker teams and younger teams (ga tech)... we get outcoached jsut about every game.

and it baffles me how yall defend randy. this guy has not taken blame for 1 loss in his entire career at miami. he throws players under the bus after every game, and fires coordinators. the good news is that there are no more scapegoats, and he will be found out this yr.

I M ALL FOR THE NEXT GREAT QB AT THE U.WE NOW KNOW WHO THAT IS.WE NEED GREAT RECRUIYING NOW,GREAT COACHING, GREAT PLAYERS AND CHEMISTRY.GO CANES....WAIT.. AM I DREAMING?WILL THIS HAPPEN AT MIAMI IN THE NEAR FUTURE?IT SEEMS LIKE MIAMI HAS NOT BEEN WITH THE ELITE FOR WAY TOO MANY YEARS NOW.IT S SURREAL ALMOST.CAN,WILL UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI FOOTBALL AND ITS ONCE STRONG PROGRAM RISE AGAIN TO GREAT HEIGHTS?THE U DOES NOT SEEM HUNGRY AND NEITHER DOES THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION.IS IT REALLY THE U OR A MAZE IM IN AND JUST A BAD DREAM I LL SOMEDAY WAKE UP FROM?MIAMI MUST SHOW SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT....WIN THE GAMES IT S SUPPOSED TO.THEIR TALENT AND QB COACHING DROP OFF WAS TREMENDOUS AND STILL LACKS.

unbearable U Do realize gerogia tech entire d-line can be potential first rounders in the draft and none are fresh and sophmore AND IM PRETTY SURE THEY HAVE SOME OTHER UPPERCLASSMEN AND HAD LEADERSHIP (GA TECH NOTICE THAT IS THE ONLY TEAM THAY STR8 WHOOPED US FROM THE BEGINING OF THE GAME SO THAT TELLS YOU THIS TEAM NEVER GAVE UP ALL YR BUT LAST YEAR TEAM WHICH CONSISTED OF UPPERCLASSMEN GAVE UP ON MIAMI) if some ppl came with REASONABLE CTRITISCM INSTEAD OF OFF WITH RANDY HEAD WE WOULD AGREE truth of the matter is yes we know Randy made mistakes but if U didN't expect great things his first 2 yrs ( AND IF YOU THINK WE COULD HAVE WENT TO A BCS LAST YEAR YOU REALLY HAVE NO COLLEGE FOOTBALL KNOWLEDGE) then y are u still complaining about what he did lasy year you are only contradicitng your statement i can tell you coker did have nice draft class but how can you blame RANDY for not developing lANCE LEGGIT THE MAN STAYED HURT AND SAM SHEILDS WHO DROPPED OF BESIDE THAT IS ON THE OFFENSE SIDE OF THE BALL NOTICE HOW THE OTHER BLOGGERS NAMED PLAYERS ON DEFENSE WHICH WAS RANDY SPECIALTY RANDY DOES NEED TO WORK ON THINGS THAT WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN AND AND U DO REALIZE SOME OF OUR UPPERCLASSMEN LOOKED FOR OR STILL IS LOOKING FOR 5 YR TO 6 YR ELIGIBLITY TO PLAY BECAUSE WHY THEY GOT HURT THE PREVIOUS YRS I CAN'T BLAME COKER FOR THIS BUT SOME KEY PLAYERS HE RECRUITIED STAYED HURT OK AND WITH THE DEVELOPMENT CRAP THAT WAS COKER PPL THAT DIDN'T DEVELOP WE DON'T KNOW HOW RANDY WELL DEVELOP HIS PLAYERS IT WAS AFTER ALL HIS FIRST REAL RECRUITING CLASS LAST YR AND THE FEW SOPHMORE'S HE COULD GET ON THE TEAM LAST YR AND BACK TO SAM SHEILDS AS I REMEMBER CORRECTLY HE WILL BE A SENIOR WHICH MEANS WHO WAS HE RECRUITED BY YOU GUESSED IT COKER RANDY SAID HE WILL EVALUATE HIMSELF ALL I CAN SAY IS LIKE I SIAD B4 WE HAVE TO WAIT IN SEE AND THE ONLY THING YALL THE KNOCK I GIVE RANDY IS HE HAS TO GET BETTER WITH CLOCK MANAGEMENT AND TEACH THESE YOUNG BOYTS TO WRAP UP A LITTLE BETTER JUST LIKE ZOOK GOT HIS SHOT AND RECRUITED WELL LETS SEE HOW RANDY DOES WITH HIS RECRUITS BUT IF THINGS ARE SO UNBEARABLE FOR YOU HOP ON GATOR NATION BANDWAGGON I HEARD THEY ARE ACCEPTING APPLICATION THE THING IS YOU HAVE TO BE A GOOD RIDER IF U GET WHAT IM SAYING

We won't be able to see player development until next year, can't say RS isn't good at it yet. I don't have a good feeling about this, but it's too early to tell.

There are players who have developed, but there are also some who have regressed.

IMO...

Better - Jacory Harris, B. Harris, Graig Cooper, Javarris James (when he played), Lee Chambers (based on bowl game), Dedrick Epps, Aldarius Johnson, Marcus Robinson, Glenn Cook.

Regressed - Benjamin, Hankerson, Marcus Forston (maybe getting doubled a lot more), DVD and most of the secondary.

Let's say Marve did go to UF. It's not exactly a school with a dearth of backup quarterbacks:

(*s per Rivals 100)

Cameron Newton (5 stars) Soph
John Brantley (4 stars) Fresh
Jordan Reed (4 stars) Committed

There's a big player development problem if we can't get Arthur Brown on the field. I saw that kid in the open practice sessons and he just knows how to get to the ball. He's exactly the type of player we needed against Georgia Tech.

For those of you who say that Shannon is underperforming with the talent that he has, let's compare Butch Davis' 5-6 team with the teams that Shannon had this year:

Quarterback:
1997: Ryan Clement (Sr)
2008: Robert Marve (Fr)

Wide Receivers:
1997: Reggie Wayne (Fr), Santana Moss (Fr),
Omar Rolle (Jr)
2008: Aldarius Johnson (Fr), Thearon Collier (Fr), Travis Benjamin (Fr)

Halfbacks:
1997: Edgerrin James (Fr), Dyral McMillan (Jr), James Jackson (Fr)
2008: Tavaris James (Jr), Craig Cooper (Soph), Derron Thomas (Sr)

Tight Ends:
1997: Bubba Franks (Fr), Chris Jones (Sr)
2008: Chris Zellner (Sr), Richard Gordon (Jr)

Offensive Line:
1997: Kerlin Blaise (Sr), Carlos Callejas (Sr), Mike Wehner (Sr), Shabaka Abdul-Majid (Sr), Robert Sampson
2008: Reggie Youngblood (Sr), Xavier Shannon (Sr), Joel Figuerosa (Soph), Jason Fox (Jr), Orlando Franklin (Soph)

Defensive Line:
1997: Derick Ham (Jr), Denny Fortney (Sr), Michael Lawson (Sr), Damione Lewis (Fr)
2008: Allen Bailey (Fr), Adewale Ojomo (Fr), Antonio Dixon (Sr), Marcus Forston (Fr)

Linebackers:
1997: Mike Smith (Soph), Rod Mack (Soph), Dan Morgan
2008: Romeo Davis (Sr), Sean Spence (Fr), Glenn Cook (Sr)

Safeties:
1997: Eugene Ridgley (Jr), Dennis Scott (Sr)
2008: Anthony Reddick (Sr), Ryan Hill (Jr)

Cornerbacks:
1997: Nate Brooks , Duane Starks (Sr), Eddie Henderson
2008: Chavez Grant (Jr), Bruce Johnson (Sr), Demarcus Van Dyke (Soph)

Kicker/Punter:
1997: Andy Crossland (Soph)
2008: Matt Bosher (Soph)

Comparing the rosters, who did better with the talent at hand, Randy Shannon or Butch Davis?

Unbearable
That's easy to answerKyle, Kirby, leggett, and shields all played offense.

I know practice is important but you just have to put them in the fire and either they perform or not.

Before Willie Williams got into the whole mess everytime he was put in he was always laying hits.

Tony Cane:
Your post should give us all hope that a good teams is not that far away. Look at all the young future NFL players on that roster.

I think this team has the same kind of potential.

FIRST OF ALL CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FLORIDA GATORS AND MY CHRISTIAN BROTHER TIM TEBOW. YOU'RE SPECIAL AND GOD BLESS YOU. I WISH YOU THE BEST IN THE NFL. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART. MY WIFE AND I TALK ABOUT YOU ALL THE TIMES. YOU'RE A GREAT EXAMPLE AS A LEADER. NOW FOR MY BROTHER JACORY. NONE WILL EVER TAKE YOUR PLACE. AND I WILL NEVER, EVER FORGET THAT GREAT GAME YOU PLAYED IN DALLAS TEXAS AND THE GOOD YEAR YOU HAD THIS YEAR. GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT AND EVEN THOUGH IN MY HEART YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN STARTING. THE FACT THAT YOU HAD TO WAIT, WHILE DISPLAYING GOOD HUMILITY SHOWS THAT YOU ARE IN DEED A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. IF ALL MY SISTERS WERE NOT MARRIED. YOU WOULD HAVE MADE AND EXCELLENT BROTHER IN LAW. YOU'RE A GREAT LEADER ON A GREAT TEAM WITH A GREAT COACH AND GOD'S ORDAINED PLAN WILL EVENTUALLY SHOW THIS. I COMMEND COACH RANDY SHANNON ON THE ACTION HE HAS TAKEN WITH ROBERT MARVE. THIS SHOULD SET AN EXAMPLE NOT ON LY FOR ROBERT MARVE, BUT FOR THOSE WHO THINK THEY CAN GET A FREE RIDE AND ALSO THOSE COACHES WHO THINK THEIR ACTIONS WILL NEVER BE FOUND OUT. ROBERT MARVE WAS GIVEN HIS CHANCES, BUT THE INTERESTING THING ABOUT LIFE, IS THAT THE TRUE CHARACTER OF A PERSON DOESN'T SHOW IN OPPORTUN ITY, BUT IN ADVERSITY AND ROBERT MARVE PROVED TO THE UM THAT HE WAS EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT THEY WERE TRYING TO BUILD. I'M GLAD THAT THIS DISTRACTION WILL BE LONG GONE BY THE NEXT SEASON. ONE THING IS FOR SURE. FOR ANYONE WHO THINKS THIS DEBACLE HURT THE UM'S RECRUITING. YOU NEED TO LOOK AGAIN. THIS REALLY SEEMED TO ENHANCE THEIR RECRUITING. THE MESSAGE BEING SENT IS THAT THE UM IS NO LONGER BEING RUN BY THE FOOTBALL TEAM, BUT BY THE COACH: BUT THEN ISN'T THAT WHAT COACH RANDY SHANNON WAS PAID TO DO. COACH SHANNON. YOU'RE A GOOD DISCIPLINARIAN AND IN TODAY'S SOCIETY. THESE YOUNG MEN NEED ALL THE ADDITIONAL GUIDANCE THEY CAN GET. I COMMEND YOUR EFFORTS. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND WATCH HOW GOD REWARDS YOUR EFFORT. BROTHER JACORY. YOU HAVE SOME OF THE MOST TALENT I HAVE EVER SEEN A QUARTERBACK HAVE AT ANY LEVEL. STAY HUMBLE AND I BELIEVE THE DAY WILL COME THAT YOU WILL ONCE AGAIN BE ALLOWED TO CALL SOME OF YOUR OWN PLAYS AFTER ALL THAT'S WHAT ENABLED YOU TO WIN THIRTY STRAIGHT GAMES,TWO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS, BACK TO BACK AND ONE MYTHICAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. WAIT AND WATCH THE GLORY OF GOD PERFORM ITSELF. GREAT THINGS COME TO GREAT PEOPLE WHO ARE SURROUNDED BY GREATNESS. JEREMIAH 33:3 ISAIAH 65:24 JEREMIAH 29:11

Please Ms. Robinson, don't lecture us on making Gator fans act insufferable. You do great at that yourself. Why you compare the two programs is beyond me. This about Marve, Gator loving hypocrite!

I think Shannon and the rest of the Miami high school fooks want Marve out.Shannon made promise's he could not keep to other quarterbacks with Marve still there, and when all your buddies are from the same high school what do you expect.Miami can not and will not be a national power with this attitude.
