UM partially lifts SEC ban for Marve

The University of Miami has lifted part of the restrictions UM coach Randy Shannon placed earlier this week on former quarterback Robert Marve's impending transfer. Instead of being barred from going to all SEC schools, Florida, Tennessee and LSU are the only specific SEC schools Marve will not be able to attend.

A statement released moments ago explained why -- because UM believes Marve's family members or others on behalf of Marve contacted those schools during the season.

"Due to the attention this issue has received, the University feels it is appropriate to state the reason for Robert_marvekeeping the restriction on those schools. The University of Miami has reason to believe that the Marve family or others on behalf of the Marve family contacted those institutions during the 2008 season regarding Robert's potential transfer prior to him having been given his release by UM," the statement said. "We are not suggesting any wrong doing on the part of any of the universities mentioned. Robert's desire to request a transfer was reviewed in the same manner that we do for every student-athlete in every sport. It is important to note that any stipulations imposed on any possible transfer are always the result of circumstances and are not done in haste or spite. As per NCAA regulations, a student-athlete can appeal any restrictions or stipulations given by a school regarding his or her transfer."

Is anyone watching Bryce Brown in the Army All-American game? He is the REAL deal!!! He is slicing up the Defense! Bryce just caught a huge TD pass!

Go 'canes!

UM football have been around long before Robert Marve started playing football. So if him and his crazy dad want to go, let them go. To marve and his dad get the hell out on MIami. you can not play here. We have Jcory harris so get over it. Coach Shannon keep doing your thing. You can not make every body happy. Let's coach the player that want to be here. GO CANES

Bryce Brown is a must get for U's. He and the other backs are the missing ingredient to oUr offense. He's Lamar Miller and Mike James in one.

I am looking forward to the U getting a real coach. At least we will only have to wait one more full year of losing 6+ games a year under Randy Shannon.
One more year Canes fans and we can bring in a real head coach and get rid of this joke of a coach.
Then we will turn it around and da U will be back!

This is a prime example of why the recruiting process sucks...these kids are treated like kings by all of the schools recruiting them and they are promised everything in the world, including a fast track to the NFL...they pick a school after being fought after like the last pretty girl at closing time in a bar, and then they think that all they have to do is show up and everything will just be handed to them. In reality, as in life, a recruit has to work hard and earn the starting job; then they have to continue to improve and show that they are the best player at that position i.e., once they earn the job they have to keep it... it is called competition. These fathers who interfere in their kids life are only harming their kids - everyone in any job has to earn it... no matter where Marve transfers to he is going to have to compete and earn the starting job...that is life.

Regarding what the Canes have done lately, this decade they played in 4 straight BCS bowls, 2 national championship games and won their 5th National Championship. And placed record numbers of 1st round NFL picks. How many other programs have accomplished that this decade? Please name them.

All programs go through down periods and transitional periods, but the top dogs always come back. Look at OK, now back in the Championship Game. Miami has been down before and has come back, and they will come back again. Only an idiot would bet against Miami coming back to join the Top 10 again.

As for Shannon, anyone who knows football in S. FLA knows that Shannon is a great recruiter and is quickly re-establishing the pipeline of talent. Good Lord does anyone think Erickson was a great coach? Anyone? He was not good but he is wearing jewelry because of the TALENT left over from JJ. Period. Butch is well-known as a great recruiter but not a great game-day coach, yet he set the team up with TALENT. Coker? Not a great HC, but his teams played for back-to-back Championships thanks to - say it with me people - TALENT.

Shannon will get better as a HC but he does not need to be great if he has the horses. It just stuns me that some Cane fans do not understand the history of the program and how there has been tremendous success achieved by fielding overwhelming TALENT as opposed to game-day coaching. Again, Erickson and Coker are wearing jewelry people - what else needs to be said?

Say what he wants but this is a case of a kid who thinks he is a superstar and just cannot perform at the next level, meaning college football. The thought of having to compete is more than this kid, who has been told by his high school coach and parents how wonderful he is, can stand. Put on top of that an arrest for vandalism and resisting arrest and you can see that his problem is in his upbringing. And then he skips class which every college athlete knows is a no no? He needs to ride a bench for a year or so and get some humility. He needs for his parents and high school coach to think of him instead of what he can do for them later. Classic case of a kid ruined by others around him.

And as a follow up to last post.... No, I am not a Randy Shannon fan. He thinks it is more about him than the team. Miami wins with big horses who are cocky and in people's faces, not by being perfect, Randy loving, gentlemen. SO let Marve go and go out and get more in-your-face players instead of Weiners, sorry I meant whiners like Mavre.

Bryce Brown 60 yard TD catch! Wide Open!

Can't wait - runs like a monster with the speed of a cheetah and catches passes with the hands of an ALL PRO WR.

What a combo!

Go Canes!

pedj51, that's OK.

I think I'll listen to guy's like Jimmy Johnson. He might know more than you, just maybe. Plus RS is in daily contact with JJ.

So, pedj51 we don't need your advise, we have JJ's.

Now, the Marve problem isn't as simple as those as ignorant as you think.

Thanks to his idiot HS coach, who implicated himself - RM and the Dad, UM had no choice based on NCAA rules but to do what they did. The NCAA is controlling this for now, not UM.

Bryce Brown two TD catches 60 & 41. Can't wait, # 1 Running back in the country tearing it up on the ground and in the air, he's a Cane and will MVP of this game.

Go Canes!

Folks, if you have a chance, send this weasel Wetzel a message.
We know the "mainstream media" want to hammer the U. They know nothing about our tradition and what RS (a hometown guy) means to the program and to our community.
Players, I know it's hard, but KEEP YOUR HEADS UP AND YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!
Remember: It's not about me. It's all about THE U!

http://sports.yahoo.com/top/feedback?author=Dan+Wetzel

Yes, SD Cane. Couldn't have said it better. Erickson was in a drunken stupor and Coker, well he was just Larry.

Overwhelming Talent!

Go Canes!

Erickson won at Oregon St. folks and helped lay the groundwork for Riley's current program. He won at ASU last year and I have no doubt the Sun Devils will be a player in the future for the Pac 10 as long as Erickson is in charge. You all are kidding yourselves if you think he's no good at the college level.

Okay I just finished watching this AA Bowl. Is it me or do these announcers and Mike Farrell and Tom Lemming want Bryce Brown to de-commit in the worse way ? The announcer at the end of the telecast stated that Brown was uncommitted. I don't know what is going on with Arthur Brown but man is it that bad that he told his brother to look around ? I don't like the vibe around that. I hate that we lost out on W.Campbell & X.Nixon but hopefully that will open the door for recruits that really want to come to Miami. As for the Marve mess, If Eugene wants him near home so bad, why not go to South Florida ? Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

As a father,I would be embarassed for the world to hear me say that my son, who knew the rules prior to attending UM, should not have to obey the rules. As a father, looking out for my son, I would never say he had no chance when he started every game except those for which he was suspended for violating the rules. Marve didn't have to transfer; obviously daddy wanted him to go elsewhere. Hey, Spurrier needs a QB; but he probably would want one that follows the rules. tws

I hate nixon now for the rest of my life. I can understand U wanting to pick what ever school U want nixon. Go ahead go to florida but throwing the U hat down on the floor like that pissed me the hell off dixon...

Great job now Arthur Brown is telling his brother to look around.

Oh man we keep getting bad news here in CanesLand.

I dont like Shannon at all as a head coach. I really want a real head coach who can take talent and develop it. Shannon is just a whiner and a baby and not a mentally tough person.

UM should be disgusted and is just a black hearted university for putting limits on Mr. Robert Marve. God will see to it that this piece of garbage university deserves its fate. Thank you Mr. Dan Wetzel!!!!

Woow i just read all these recent posts... Seems like to me the gator fans have it. U fans keep hating on ur own brand.. I can't believe what im going to type next...

I Cosign everything the gator fans our saying. They are right. miami fans are a bunch of spoiled brats....

Go canes
In Randy WE trust!!!!!

There needs to be a blog for X canes fans cus u losers are starting to pile up...
Go CANES

Randy Shannon IS the university of miami..

thats how i know u douche bags arent fans.. I dont care what randy does i will never hate on a miami dade product who played in championships and also coached in championships.. Randy has left blood sweat and tears on that field for miami. Thats more then any of U so called fans have every done for the U....

i cosign with miamiboisince85...U all should root for UCF or USF if u think that the program is not going in the right direction...RS will get a OC that has a clue about a "pro-style_Major Applewehite would be a hreat OC for the Canes offense....as long as we can recruit the athletes that have a f'n clue we'll be fine...people that live in Miami are FRONTRUNNING SPOILED B*ITHCES!! STOP YOUR CRYING AND HAVE PATIENCE..Coker's boys are slowly being transferred out/graduating.. U all need to watch the Under Armour Game tomm night and see the real deal Ray Ray Armstrong...He would be a great fit for Coach Young's Defense...

is it me? or does anyone else here feel as if bryce is trying to distant himself from miami, sheesh the dude scored twice and not once did he acknowledge the school he committed to, if u look into his hs video highlights, you'll see him throwing the U sign on some of his td's, he doesn't seem to be that enthused and pleased about what's been going on in Miami right now, and everytime the announcer say something (not that what they say matters) it was all maybes, and the announcer even mentioned some startling piece of statements, that his brother is actually wanting him to shop around schools to make sure he's making the right decision??, shouldn't he be pushing for him to go in the same school??? another one the announcers mentioned was that bryce is still undecided, what the hell!?!, what's been going on?? can someone say something positive here about the U just to atleast put a lil smile on my face, and please none of the "Shannon isn't really a HC, i told you so! bull crap", if ur a fan ur a fan, u shouldn't be bashing against the U regardless of the reason!!!! damn, atleast i got to see McGee play, a lot of potential, returned a few kicks, broke a pass, and one headbutt in the game that caused him a flag but was still a good cover!!!! i'm just glad we have him as a real commit, something u can be positive about!!!!

I love the fact that blind faith in UM is back. It has to be, because the TRUTH is shannon is a jerk and Marve was treated unfairly, beginning with the suspension for something that happend a year before, and the Florida game when he was pulled while he was hot (and by hot I mean hitting all his recievers in the hands even though they didn't return the favor by catching the ball). Marve NEVER got a fair shake. When he was hot his rhythm AND confidence was shaken by Shannon's insistance on playing Harris. DOn't get me wron, I like Harris, but Marve could have been much better thean he was SET UP to be by shannon who obviously disliked Eugene marve's presence. Screw Shannon, he's a jerk! I love UM Hurricane football, but I hate seeing a young man's life scrwed with in suich an unfair manner because shannon wanted to play favorites. People Shannon's in game coaching has been horrid. With a better coach we could have gone 9-3 this year!Did you see the clock management during the Cal game and Shannon calm and cool on the sideline like he didn't care whether we won or not. Shannon is a GREAT recruiter, but a HORRIBLE coach and a JERK disciplinarian who's players don't trust him.

damn man, i was really hoping for campbell, dude plays too much, and nixon for a kid raised as christian and under the discipline of military parents sure didn't show a lot of maturity there picking the gators over us and LSU, it's fine him choosing another school, but to do it that way and actually throwing the hat somewhat gives a statement that his treating us as garbage right now!

is it me? or does anyone else here feel as if bryce is trying to distant himself from miami, sheesh the dude scored twice and not once did he acknowledge the school he committed to, if u look into his hs video highlights, you'll see him throwing the U sign on some of his td's, he doesn't seem to be that enthused and pleased about what's been going on in Miami right now, and everytime the announcer say something (not that what they say matters) it was all maybes, and the announcer even mentioned some startling piece of statements, that his brother is actually wanting him to shop around schools to make sure he's making the right decision??, shouldn't he be pushing for him to go in the same school??? another one the announcers mentioned was that bryce is still undecided, what the hell!?!, what's been going on?? can someone say something positive here about the U just to atleast put a lil smile on my face, and please none of the "Shannon isn't really a HC, i told you so! bull crap", if ur a fan ur a fan, u shouldn't be bashing against the U regardless of the reason!!!! damn, atleast i got to see McGee play, a lot of potential, returned a few kicks, broke a pass, and one headbutt in the game that caused him a flag but was still a good cover!!!! i'm just glad we have him as a real commit, something u can be positive about!!!!

every SOB on this damn board who is supporting SHannon (who I think over the last two years has shown he is a great recruiter but a stubborn jerk and an intellectually inept coach) should read this article, here's what the national media is saying:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=dw-marve010308&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

I totally agree. What the F is up with BB? Brandon McGee is certain he'll play for Miami but it sure didn't look like it at today's AA game. He's starting to look like another Olivier Vernon. And did anyone see Xavier Nixon throwing the Canes hat to the side in favor of a UF hat? That s__t pissed me off! He's just a kid but the fact that he tossed the [|_|] to the side like that reveals how pathetic we're being perceived around the nation. Would he have done that in the 80's or early 2000's? Hell no! We need 10 wins next season. It's too bad we fell apart at the end of this season. I'm sure the competition is exaggerating the magnitude of it while talking to recruits (that and the Marve fiasco and firing of coaches). We need a good OC that will hopefully even bring a recruit or two with him. I'm still positive we'll have a better year next year but it would be nice to win the war on the recruiting front as well. Landing the Sanford trio would bring a lot of hope. Bring back the pro-style! GO CANES!!!!!

Randy Shannon to me is a man of principles and a man with a very strong character. He will make mistakes for sure, and we see that he is learning as he goes, but I hope UM will give him his time, because he is a true UM guy and I feel that he will take Miami to the top once again. I seen lots of Eugene Marve's walking the sidelines screaming every Saturday at all the little league parks throughout Miami-Dade and Broward, and believe me they are all very annoying.

humby, what national media are you talking about buddy??? it's friggin' yahoosports, unless ur a recruit fanatic, that's really the only attention they would get from readers, national means widespread like espn, nbc, fox, usatoday the list could go on, you really think people outside of miami would really care about the whole marve saga??? i bet you not one legit coach out there is really looking into this, he may end up in a mediocre bigeast team like uconn at best, but that's about it!

Humby...When the Fck did we start giving a damn what the national media has to say??

umm CanesfanStuck, u sure you're talking about the right guy here???? brandon mcgee is a solid commit, read it on every cane site and you'll find out, i think ur referring to Bryce Brown . . but ur statement is confusing, all in all, i somewhat get what u mean if u are really talking about Bryce here, cold shoulders all day long, not one he acknowledge the U, so much for being a commit, while other commits from every other schools have a big smile on their faces wearing their stupid hats, our most prize didn't even bother atleast flashing a lil U sign just to see where we're at!!!!!

it appears that Marve was a very talented kid on the field but during his time in miami, he has not been able to get things right off of the field and thats where RS is non tolerant. no special treament or quote on quote "coach player relationship" is involved when this kid continueously acted immaturely on several occasions throughout his um career...let the kid go, life goes on canes...

HUMBY: WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE! The Canes have NEVER been perceived well by the media around the nation. Who gives a crap about what some yahoo sports commentator has to say! For two years Shannon managed to stay out of the Canes-hating media spotlight. Not only has he cleaned up Miami's Thug U reputation by keeping his players out of trouble, but the Canes also have one of the highest (if not the highest) graduation rates in the FBS. Bums like the yahoo scumbag that wrote this article have always been around. People have made careers out of bashing the U. Why doesn't this Yahoo bum write an article about the many, many chances Marve received undeservingly to prove himself at the QB position, not to mention that he's been at Miami for two years and still can't follow the most simple of behaviorial guidelines, guidelines in place to help "mold him into a man" and in the end benefit him (e.g. going to class, not getting arrested, and not running from cops). The Cane-hating media has been dying for an opportunity to bash us about something, and this retarded mess is the best they can do.

Randy has made a few mistakes, but has done his best to correct each. Walton, Nix, Marve..etc. We knew there'd be growing pains with Shannon when he was hired...personally, he has '10 to get us back in the top 10 and hopefully playing for an nc soon after.

HUMBY...READ WHAT HAS TRANSPIRED THE LAST SEASON WITH MARVE..IF YOU WANNA PLAY THEN YOU NEED TO PROVE YOURSELF..LOOK AT WILLIE WILLIAMS CAROL CITY A__...HE B____D ALL DAY BEFORE JON BEASON SAID YOU GOTTA TAKE IT AWAY FROM ME IF YOU WANT MY POSITION...THESE KIDS WANNA PLAY IMMEDIATELY THEY CAN GO TO A MEDIOCRE SCHOOL FOR THAT PT..BUT WHEN U PLAY FOR MIAMI YOU GOTTA STEP THE F*** UP OR RIDE THE PINE UNTIL ITS YOUR TIME...

I was talking about Bryce... My bad about the confusion.

Defensive tackle William Campbell (6-5, 317 pounds), a Detroit native, had UM among his short list of potential schools, but committed to Michigan during the game. Campbell is rated the No. 4 defensive tackle in the country, according to Rivals.com.

Offensive tackle Xavier Nixon of Fayetteville, North Carolina, committed to the University of Florida. Nixon (6-6, 263), rated the No. 3 offensive tackle in the nation by Rivals.com, picked the Gators over UM, LSU, North Carolina and North Carolina State.

LIKE I SAID YESTERDAY, WE'RE IN TROUBLE!

I hope we don't lose BB.
Randy better resolve the OC situation FAST.

Folks, if you have a chance, send this weasel Wetzel a message.

I know the saga of Erickson well. This has been debated many times. Erickson only won for a few yrs at OSU and that was with Riley's players - same thing he did at UM with JJ's players. Erickson then started LOSING as usual, just like he LOST in the NFL with Seattle before getting canned. He also LOST in SF before getting run out of the NFL. He was in such demand then that he landed a DREAM JOB with.....IDAHO, where you guessed it, he LOST again. He then won with Koetter's players at ASU for wow, a whole year, and he is back to LOSING again. The guy cannot recruit and he is a mediocre coach. The Erickson debate is way tired - we have establsihed for some time that the guy is nothing special. Yet he wears 2 Championship Rings from Miami because of the overwhelming talent he had on the field.

If the Kid wants to be near his father at this PIT then all I got to say about the situation is that Shannon was being a Big Di¢K from the get go...
After all this is College Football Aint it...??

National media busting miami's balls. Shocking!
The U has been down before and we always rise.

shannon is a racist! he should be fired for this move! what a racist dirt bag!!!

we should have treated Arthur Brown, a little nicer.

That's funny Kimbo, how is Shannon racist? Isn't Marve part black? Take a look at daddy's picture and you'll see. That was a dumb comment.

Agree on getting Arthur Brown more time, seeing Romeo Davis and Glenn Cook in there so much this year just hurt. So damn slow. Even would have been better to see Spencer Adkins in there more. Next year's starters look to be Spence, McCarthy and hopefully Brown (but I think they'll start Sharpton unfortunately)

Like to see Cookie hit the field too, he's going to be a good one, hope we don't waste that talent

under-utilize our talent..

Yo..whether Brown starts or not, he should play alot. A LB or two will always go down at some point during the year. I don't mind Sharpton playing, I think he is pretty decent...and will probably end up being like Beason and Leon Williams who have played their best football later on when they left the U, unfortunately. But Brown should play. And as long as he is happy here, his brother should end up here also, which after the performance today is a great thing.

Unfortunately none of the OL committed to the U.

Yo....it must really help recruiting when the recruits can come on sites like this and read stuff from retards saying stuff about them. Helpful.

OK guy's and gals - it's time to start slapping these U and RS haters.

I like what I'm reading out there for the most part, but some of these girls are talk both sides of the street.

They love the JJ era. And yet they're hate'n on Randy.

Girls! Randy is JJ's pick for THE U's HC. He pushed and lobbied for Randy and won.

He's advising RS on a daily basis. RS and JJ wrote the plan they are working, now to take The U to the next decades of dominance.

Recruits? Look who wouldn't want every 5 star out there? But guess what girls ...

- when the CANES were dominating college football and winning National Championships
they never had a recruiting class ranked better 20th. Maybe one was ranked 15th.

- when the CANES were dominating college football and winning National Championships
they never gave a damn about the national media.

- when the CANES were dominating college football and winning National Championships
those that came to play for The U, did for The U not for themselves.

- when the CANES were dominating college football and winning National Championships
they did so with Overwhelming Talented Depth at every position.

- when the CANES were dominating college football and winning National Championships
they did so by following "The Plan".

The plan was written by Lou Saban and Howard Schnellenberger. Improved upon by Jimmy Johnson. Trashed by Erickson's arrogance after 2 NC's. Reinstated by Butch. Trashed again by Coker's arrogance after 1 NC. And now, reinstated by Shannon and JJ, no ego's or arrogance here.

JJ is not gone. JJ loves this program and he's working his A%% off to get it back were it belongs - ON TOP! He's "committed to this!" His own words.

Now Girls, this doesn't mean that criticism isn't welcome, heck we criticized HS,JJ and the rest. But, show some knowledge not the ignorance I read out there.

And for the haters and Gators that disguise themselves as dissatisfied Canes fans ... we know who you are. Your not fooling anyone, just buck up be honest and give your opinion. But don't hide behind the blog.

CanesFanForEver Go Canes!

What a disgrace this U of M, Mr. Robert Marve has been treated like a piece of meat, this is an inhumane and pure evil act on the part of U of M .. what a shame. These people responsible for abusing Mr. Marve should and will burn in hell forever!
