The University of Miami has lifted part of the restrictions UM coach Randy Shannon placed earlier this week on former quarterback Robert Marve's impending transfer. Instead of being barred from going to all SEC schools, Florida, Tennessee and LSU are the only specific SEC schools Marve will not be able to attend.
A statement released moments ago explained why -- because UM believes Marve's family members or others on behalf of Marve contacted those schools during the season.
"Due to the attention this issue has received, the University feels it is appropriate to state the reason for
keeping the restriction on those schools. The University of Miami has reason to believe that the Marve family or others on behalf of the Marve family contacted those institutions during the 2008 season regarding Robert's potential transfer prior to him having been given his release by UM," the statement said. "We are not suggesting any wrong doing on the part of any of the universities mentioned. Robert's desire to request a transfer was reviewed in the same manner that we do for every student-athlete in every sport. It is important to note that any stipulations imposed on any possible transfer are always the result of circumstances and are not done in haste or spite. As per NCAA regulations, a student-athlete can appeal any restrictions or stipulations given by a school regarding his or her transfer."

standing by for debose!

Posted by: watching the U recruits closely!!!!! | January 04, 2009 at 10:06 PM
Yea, I know he was scout'n for Ole' Miss at one my kids games a couple yrs ago and he was really pissed. His anger was directed at Coker, back then.
Just hope'n against hope, but stranger things have happened.

I agree with you GoCanes. All these skill players are great but we need O-Lineman. These skills players have to have someone blocking for them in high school, so why don't we offer them a 2-for-1 deal...chose The U and bring your favorite lineman with you. You are also right in stating that we need a good coach for the O-line. I really don't know who is coaching them now but there is a LOT of room for improvement.
Posted by: No OC at the U | January 04, 2009 at 10:08 PM
I have two thing to say:
1. Where is Manny? Dude this is all good news and instant news?!?!?
2. Randy Shannon is the @#$%ing MAN recruiting! We need to stop hating, start believing because you know he will not leave the "U" hung out to dry like former coaches he bleeds orange and green!
Posted by: A Realisst | January 04, 2009 at 10:11 PM
the reason why we are cheering on the on the ath is because those are the ones that are either announcing about comming to the U there only going to be 7 or 8 announcments and we are already at 6and beside the o'line they mention wasn't even thinking about going to us but RS is looking at o-line go to rivals and see the prospects u will see we have are eyes on alot but like i said you guys are right tho
Posted by: pay attention to the U | January 04, 2009 at 10:14 PM
Chill out on the OL recruits. We have two OL recruits already plus two TE ala Fox that will be converted to OL. Plus, we have 8 top OL prospects coming in for visits this month.
Kehoe - If he is such a good coach then where has he been since being fired from Ole Miss?
Posted by: GatorAid | January 04, 2009 at 10:14 PM
Also thank god we didnt waste a scholarship on the DT Lowery he is a big for nothing.
Posted by: A Realisst | January 04, 2009 at 10:18 PM
with the 2 verbal we just had, Randy Shannon just made that yahoosports columnists dan wetzel sound like a complete ass about his article!!!!
Posted by: watching the U recruits closely!!!!! | January 04, 2009 at 10:19 PM
GatorAid, you're a great poster, but Kehoe was the backbone to a lot of the guys the canes had, even when they weren't the most talented, dorsey never got hit for example. Kehoe's probably decided to stay home with his family.
Posted by: mra | January 04, 2009 at 10:19 PM
Kehoe's now w/ Kifkin up @ UT. He'll be pulling down over $500K/ year. Even if he wasnt still bitter as hell, he aint coming back...
God bless'm

GatorAid, not a bad point. But Art knows the UM Pro Style Offense. He taught it to Pete Carroll and Pat Ruhl, the brain trust at USC. Pat's a former O-Lineman at the U. An they run it pretty well.
That's Art's thing. And with the Spread every where the jobs are few and far between.

Couple of the RB's in this game are from SoFla going to OSU and SCU. I guess we have more depth than I thought at RB.
Posted by: mra | January 04, 2009 at 10:28 PM
I don't know about $500,000 but good for Art.

I really like Kehoe also, he was a great coach who did great things at the U. The last thing I read stated he was rumored for the OL job at TN but nothing official yet.
Posted by: GatorAid | January 04, 2009 at 10:30 PM
Yah, including Bryce Brown #1 RB in the country and Lamar Miller #10 RB in the country from Miami Killian.

Don't forget Mike James! He is a big physical RB.
Posted by: GatorAid | January 04, 2009 at 10:35 PM
Art left because Larry Choker was an arse and tried to make Art a scapegoat for his own sorryness. I think Choker thought Art was "too hard" on the kids. Choker was truly clueless. Well, wherever Art is, we wish him well. His skills are sorely missed.

i guess u can't have everything!
Posted by: watching the U recruits closely!!!!! | January 04, 2009 at 10:41 PM
We will be awright without DeBose. Got enough WRs as it is. We needed the other 2 more anyway. GO CANES!!
Posted by: No OC at the U | January 04, 2009 at 10:42 PM
Your correct! We don't need another WR. Plus, he was a gator fan who will end up replacing Percy.
Posted by: GatorAid | January 04, 2009 at 10:43 PM
Well, were get'n WR Reid, he scored a TD tonight for the White team.
All in all it's shaping up to be another top 10 or better class.
Posted by: GoCanes | January 04, 2009 at 10:45 PM
face it though canes fans, if he committed to us instead, it would've been an icing on the cake, u can never have too much of everything!
Posted by: watching the U recruits closely!!!!! | January 04, 2009 at 10:45 PM
debose will get swayed at the end to end up in miami...grew up a cane
Posted by: DrtyCane | January 04, 2009 at 10:46 PM
There saying Reid will be playing DB at Miami.
Posted by: GatorAid | January 04, 2009 at 10:46 PM
well said no oc, perfect example of what has become the typical Cane fan rationalization these days. Sure hope we're on our way back and tonights game has been a positive, but it's not looking great right now from a realistic standpoint. The results on the field next year will tell the tale.
Let's do it in '09. Go Canes!!
Posted by: g8rh8r | January 04, 2009 at 10:49 PM
i would've been more happier if debose choose florida state over florida, i can't stand their cockiness . . they think they're the shiit, they can't even become successful in the pros and they think they're more talented individually than the U!!!! friggin' ed reed ripped it all day, unfortunately it was against our beloved dolphins! all in all good day for us U fans, 2 out of 3 is really good, and seeing how jamal reid was is another bonus, prince kent look good too, but got beat all day
Posted by: watching the U recruits closely!!!!! | January 04, 2009 at 10:50 PM
prince kent is in the hospital with third degree burns. He got stuck in the toaster
Posted by: g8rh8r | January 04, 2009 at 10:52 PM
Reid is a ATH so he can play muptiles postion but hey we ray ray and dye but debose chose florida but he a florida type any way wish we had top OL WITH THIS CLASS
Posted by: malcolm | January 04, 2009 at 10:53 PM
I agree we're loaded at WR it's the secondary and OLine where we need lots of help. Although, Ray Ray might be moved to OLB/ILB/MLB which would give us some needed size at that position.

All this breaking news, action going on for the canes but nothing from Mr. manny, maybe, his not a cane fan or supporter. Fire Manny.

yeah, fire manny, where the hell is he tonight!?
Posted by: g8rh8r | January 04, 2009 at 10:58 PM
Not only did we build a fence across S. Fla, we are now going into Gator country to take recruits!
Posted by: GatorAid | January 04, 2009 at 11:00 PM
OL's will commit within the next couple weeks...WE NEED TO HIRE AN OC QUICK>..WTF ?!??!?? THESE KIDS NEED TO STAY COMMITTED AND NOT SWAYED SOMEWHERE ELSE..

fire manny??? are you kiddin' me? he's the only legit cane source we have, everyone else are retarded and seems to just copy and paste off of him!
Posted by: watching the U recruits closely!!!!! | January 04, 2009 at 11:06 PM
If Randy wants to run pro style offense, why do we have a spread QB as are starter. I think T Cook will strive in pro style not the weak aremed J harris. Discuss?
Posted by: Griggsy | January 04, 2009 at 11:06 PM
Hey, y'all lay off Manny. He is probably out poaching some of that Gator tail walking around down there. The ol' boy deserves that and a night off. Just keep it legal Manny.
Posted by: No OC at the U | January 04, 2009 at 11:12 PM
I think we all know Manny's busy covering the NC game.
But fire his butt anyways for not leaving a comment ;)

where r the OL
Posted by: Marve can go to he## | January 04, 2009 at 11:18 PM
I'M HYPED WITH TONIGHTS RECRUITS!!! IF WE MANAGE TO KEEP ALL OUR CURRENT COMMITS (AND WE PROBABLY WILL) AND ADD SOME OLs (A LOT MORE; I HEARD USC ROTATES ABOUT 15 AND I DON'T THINK WE EVEN HAD 10 LAST SEASON) WE SHOULD BE IN GOOD SHAPE. BRING IN A SKILLED OC AND WE'RE IN GREAT SHAPE TO WIN 10 GAMES AND POSSIBLY PLAY A JANUARY BOWL GAME. LET'S GO CANES!!!!!!! C-A-N-E-S CANES!!!! P.S. SOMEBODY PLEASE THROW A SCHOLLY DOWN CB GREG REID'S WAY. 3 INTS TONIGHT AND HE HASN'T COMMITTED YET. WE STILL NEED ABOUT 10 MORE COMMITMENTS AND HE JUST MIGHT BE A GREAT FIT IN OUR SECONDARY. ALL ABOUT THE [|_|]!!!
Posted by: CanesFanStuckInNYC | January 04, 2009 at 11:18 PM
Yes O-Line will see the RB's and soon a OC and their done.
Remember, when Coker was fired and RS was hired it was late in the process, no OC and the recruits stuck by us. Now, they see back to back great classes, I say more of these guy's will be switching to us - not away from us.
Now, the possible OC candidates that are watching this, seeing all this talent come to THE U. These guy's are lick'n their chops as we speak - eh post.
Let the bidding begin.

greg reid would be another steal from the gaturds....i think we have 22-27 scholly's this yr
Posted by: DrtyCane | January 04, 2009 at 11:43 PM
On our way to another top 5 class. RS is laying some serious groundwork for 2010. The talent level is not quite 3 deep but we're getting there. Stay patient and keep things positive. The weak link (Nix) is gone and we are on the way up. UUUU!

what up with the love the herald is giving the hurricanes, no updated info. for the past two days, what's up with that, anyone out there with me. Congrats to RS and the U for doing a great job recruiting. I think we another lb, te, cb and 3 ol's to build more depth which is what's killing this team and of course youth but the canes will be back with all this talent. I love the recruting battle between fsu, uf, um and the rest of the world. I can't wait to see those 3 rbs in cane's uni's cause miami been lacking breakaway backs like portis, gore, macgahee and I think we found the missing link in those 3 rb's coming in.
