Canes open NIT at Providence Wednesday

Jack McClinton and the Miami Hurricanes are not going to the Big Dance, but they're season isn't over yet.

UM (18-12) earned a bid to the National Invitational Tournament late Sunday night as expected and will play at Providence (19-13) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

If the fourth-seeded Hurricanes beat their former Big East Rivals they could earn a bonus -- a date with the Florida Gators (23-10) in Gainesville in Round 2. Top-seeded UF is set to host Jacksonville (18-13) in its NIT opener.

Sunday's invitation to the NIT is the third for the program under coach Frank Haith. UM began its season ranked as high as No. 16 in the country, but lost in the first round of the ACC Tournament to Virginia Tech Thursday and finished in ninth place in the regular season.

UM beat the Friars the last time the teams met, which was in the championship game of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Classic in San Juan on Nov. 18, 2007. UM is 3-8 all-time in the NIT and will be making its first appearance in the tournament since it reached the quarterfinals before losing at Michigan in 2006.

UM can not host any games in the NIT this season because the BankUnited Center has been rented out for the next two weeks.

First!
Wow, a four seed in the Nobody's Interested Tourney, I can't understand why I'm not planning my day around this one.

Manny, Do you know anything on Malcolm Grant and next year. I hear he is supposed to be one of the best point guards that Miami will ever have.

The last couple of games have convinced me that Miami needs to stop playing like a team and just allow Jack McClinton to take 40 shots a game.

im with you zac

Jack McClinton and the Miami Hurricanes are not going to the Big Dance, but THEY'RE season isn't over yet

Cripes Manny...you think writing for a living would result in better grammar.

I've never seen such fair weather fans in my life. J.W. if you aren't planning your day around it, it's probably because you aren't a fan in the first place. You either support the program or you don't, plain and simple. And while Zac has a decent idea...if Jack continues to struggle and shoot 37 percent, it'll take a lot more than 40 shots if they plan to beat anybody. Even though I'll be on the road from MD to FL on Wednesday I'm going to see if the game can be recorded so I can watch it when I arrive. Good luck in the NIT fellas, it's not where you were expected to be, but make the most out of it, send the Seniors out with a title of some sort. I hope Haith doesn't leave next year and I hope some of the veterans will step up next year.

I still find it unbelievable that we can't play our deserved home game at the BUC. I understand that the BUC is rented out for the Latin Grammys, but it still looks really bad to be the only higher seed who has to play on the road (much less a big disadvantage to our kids).

That being said, Providence is a good team, and winning this game won't be easy. I have faith that we can do it, but we have to show up for a full 40 minutes... none of this digging ourselves into a giant hole in the first half stuff we've been doing lately. A date with the Gators would be a nice consolation prize, but we gotta beat PC first!

sorry you missed the sacrcasm MD, but when I read that we shouldn't be disappointed with this, well . . . . As to whether I'm a "real fan," I can guarantee you that I have at least as much orange and green in my house as you.

It may only be the NIT, but it's better than nothing. This also gives those few Canes bball fans still out there a chance to see Jack McClinton play his final game or games for the U. I'll be watching on Wednesday night, rooting for the Canes... that's what real UM fans should do.

Not Important Tournament

Latin Grammy? Can't wait for the German ones and how about our brothers from Italy.

Will be a blast.

UM's distant success has the fan base STILL up in arms that there is no present glory. U guys will never figure it out. The program has completely changed since there was any success. Kehoe's supplements are LONG GONE. There is NO leadership in the program. There is NO development of players. How many guys do you have to see leave no better than when they came? Will ANYONE be drafted this year? Bruce Johnson? Late rounder.
U are small and weak.

The strength and conditioning program at UM is a far cry from what it once was. Who cares about the propoganda "weight charts" that the strength coach released. The mere fact that those numbers are surfacing says all you need to know.

Which part of this picture eludes U?

"Shut up Kehoe, Randy's recruiting......blah blah blah" Keep believing that Randy's overrated recruiting is going to return UM from 2nd tier status. Recruiting is a small piece of a very large puzzle. The UM puzzle is missing too many pieces. If U had a clue U would set your sights on winning the ACC title. That's a realistic goal. ANY talk about "NC game in 2010" is ignorant.

sorry you missed the sacrcasm MD

My apologies...I'm usually pretty quick to pick up the sarcasm. And I agree with you that no matter how you cut it this year was a disappointment.

If the team played up to 1/2 the way they were expected, this would never have mattered, they would have been in the dance.

iamme- RIGHT the blank on. THAT is what I have been saying all along. The expectations equal the dissapointment only because this team has the talent to make it to the sweet 16. And look whatthey did. or didnt do. So for all the criticism some of us have received for pointing outthe obvious, stop and think... what exactly was this team capable of had it played to its ability?

Why couldn't we play the game at the AA?

This team has the talent? You gotta be kidding me. Given our late season slide, don't be suprised if we're one and done in the NIT too.

Talent? I'm just not seeing it. Apart from Jack, the others are ___________. [Fill in the blank].

I still find it unbelievable that we can't play our deserved home game at the BUC.

What the "F" are YOU smoking?

Proving YET AGAIN that you don't have a clue.

Seriously dude, stay off your computer with that homer nonsense. You're embarrassing us.

Taco, I'm kind of with you. The Latin Grammy's are a pretty big deal, especially, in Miami. I have actually been holding off judgment until I knew what the event was that was scheduled at the BUC. This doesn't bother me at all. The school is getting more money for hosting this event. In addition, UM already probably knows if it is going to be a host to part of the NCAA tournament or not before the Grammy's is scheduled. The fact is, after last year, the school was expecting to go to the NCAA tournamet, not the NIT.

Bryce Brown, the nation's No. 1 player, announces his decision at 1 p.m. CST today.

Rivals

What happens if GOD didn't speak to him?????? I'm sure he can't make the decision on his own, or maybe the felon will make it for him.

Given that the Gaytors have just now figured out how to win consistently, you'll have to excuse me for laughing at your comments! When you "throw" almost 90 million dollars a year at your athletic program, you better win something! I'm sure your professor's are behind your athletic department spending 100%!

We have led the way in football in this state since the early 80's. What goes up, always comes down, as you will soon realize! I know this is all new for your program, so we will be patient! The U is planting the seeds of success for the future, and Randy is leading the way.

WE DO SO MUCH MORE, WITH SO MUCH LESS

Go 'canes!

has the football team been off or are they still practicing?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THE "HOLDING OFF JUDGEMENT UNTIL THE TYPE OF EVENT?"

This is the HOMECOURT of the University of Miami Men's Basketball Team...There are other venues in which the Latin Grammy's can take place at...Jackie Gleason, PAC, Dade County Auditorium, etc...

THIS IS OUR HOMECOURT, not some frickin hollywood set!!! Do you think other schools would sell out their homecourt for more money?

Only in Miami, only at the U....

Good Luck in the NIT men. Leave it all on the court.

The big Bryce Brown announcement is today. If you choose Miami, this is a TEAM sport. Another non team player left this season. So if you're not about team, save yourself some time & don't waste a year of eligibility.

Football team is off until March 23rd.

Brown - We do not want you and the U!

Plus, we have dropped the offer so I'm sure he won't even have a U hat to show off.

"led the way in football" PAST TENSE

U are a 2nd tier program.

"planting the seeds of success" at least ONE homer believes that nonsense.

U are delusional fool

This just in 12:12 p.m. - GOD told Bryce Brown to pick the "U", but Randy told Bryce to take a hike - the offer is off the table so good luck sitting on bench at LSU Mr. Brown.

thnx Canesjunkie, i couldn't remember which week they were off.

Just moments away from the final Bryce punking.

This guy played you . Once he fully figured out what a complete train wreck your football program is, he pulled the plug.

The pain will subside eventually. It will be funny to watch this guy go have a monster career somewhere elese, somewhere that actually develops there talent. U wouldn't know anything about developing your talent anymore.
How's the upcoming NFL draft looking for U?

U are a 2nd tier football program now. Get used to it.

You are the same fool that keeps posting over and over again. Go back to your Gaytor board, asswipe.

How's the upcoming NFL draft looking for U?

The same as it has for Florida many of the last 14 years, you know when Miami was continuously having multiple players selected in the first round.

ahhhh the good ole days. Hope you kept a photo album to enjoy the MEMORIES

Kehoe- In the world of Lo-sers, there is no category to describe you and the throng (that is a word that describes a multitude) of rednecks from central Florida that cheer for the turds. U are in a class all by Yourself. And I'd love to see you face to face when the Canes ransack that farm up there.

Nemo- Yes, talent: You don't beat kentucky, BC twice, FSU, Wake, and play Duke and NC to the end without talent. But talent can be wasted without heart. Because the NCAA is full oftalent.

Any wonder how App state beat Michigan? heart.

Hey apologize to kehoe....some advice for you....get yourself some hand wipes and head for the restroom with your picture of teblow....

Bryce punks U in 10...9....8...7...6....

Um, it's not a punking when the kid gets scared by the other freshmen coming in and decides to go somehwere else. That's called something else that I can't type on here. Anyone who knows anything of the situation will tell you he got cold feet after going to watch Lamar Miller v. Columbus at Tropical Park and we got away from that trainwreck months go. You like your facts, there's two for you.

I am the farthest thing from a homer but he's right on this one. They got to the 2nd round of the tourney last year and almost beat Texas to get to the sweet 16. We brought back 4 of our 5 starters and 8 of our rotation players were juniors or seniors(even though Haith actually said "We were a young team"). We started out the season ranked 16 with some writers putting us as high as 12. This was a team projected to finish 4th in the ACC and supposed to be AT LEAST a sweet 16 team. Whether you want to believe it or not, this season was an EPIC FAILURE.

Never attended a U.C.G. Basketball game but I think Im going to buy a ticket for the Latim Grammy's.. You guys have your priorities in line! No Home court advantage.. Don't worry the entire nation will be watching on TV..

I like it "J.W." (Nobody's Interested Tourney)

For anyone interested watching Bryce Brown's announcement live:

http://www.kake.com/

The video stream is on! There is a U hat there! Hum, BB's big brother is a Cane; can't really pull a dis!

I see that Arthur Brown present at the news conference...

Where will BB play?

can't watch where i am, please report once it is all over with.

Tennessee, duh

UTenn

with corrupt kiffin, perfect!

new blog...

Bryce 'Ricky Williams' Brown picks UT. It seems like UM really wasnt pushing hard for this guy which is a bit strange. The funniest thing is that the Turds that were on here ripping on the U now get to face him every year. Enjoy! lol

Thank You!!! WOO HOO!!! Tom Lugenbill on ESPN Sports Center just gave Miami PROPS for not letting ONE kid run the show. Also stating that when LOI expired on Feb 18th, Miami had said it's now or never. There's no I in team. TEAM = Together EVERYONE Accomplishes More!!! Some of you don't see this now, but this is a great day for UM Football...

What a D***

Well finally this whole Bryce Brown saga is over with. I kind of feel he dissed da U by pulling out the Miami hat first, before slinging it to the side to his brother saying, "You can do something with this". The fact of the matter was he wanted to go somewhere he could be primadonna and be the starting running back from the get go. Down here at the U, you have to compete for your time, and that was something he did not want to do. I dont by the whole explanation he gave of going to place where he could make it to the NFL, claiming with Coach Kiffin he has a better shot of making it to the league. News flash Bryce with the exception of this year Miami has had the most people drafted in the league and the most first drafted into the league since the year 2000.
