Can the Canes get back to Omaha?

Mid May has traditionally been the time of year on the South Florida sports calendar when the UM baseball team suddenly begins to draw interest from folks that didn't really care about them except during those early season FSU or Florida series.

Kyle Bellamy and Yasmani Grandal celebrated an ACC title last year. Now, they're just hoping UM can get hot and make it back to Omaha. Right about now is when coach Jim Morris and his team begin popping up on nightly sports telecasts, and the fairweather fans who no longer have the Heat or Panthers to watch in the playoffs -- or are tired of the up-and-down struggles of the Marlins -- begin wondering how their team is doing in the old "ping league." Even UM football diehards who are glued to Canesport's football recruiting wire will lift their heads up from their computers for five minutes to ask: How many weeks until Omaha?

It's what Morris and his team has gotten us South Floridians accustomed to. They've spoiled us really. What we expect is for the most reliable team in the sports market -- the one that always has that hefty national ranking, the slew of big home run bats, and that combo of left-handers who bring the heat -- to be ready to deliver excitement for about three weeks, to have us on edge and suddenly yearning for that sound (PING!)

Sorry to break it to you casual observers, but the forecast for the pinging Canes doesn't look good. Unless the Canes turn it around big time and in a hurry, the milkshake guy at The Light has served his last Omaha Express. And fans who were hoping to watch Scott Lawson do his stanky leg dance are going to have to hope TV cameras catch it.

Earlier this week, I caught up with the Canes before they left Wednesday in must-win mode for their final regular season ACC series at Wake Forest. Miami, ranked 24th by Baseball America, has gone 8-10 over the past month. The Canes have had plenty of icky losses. North Florida beat them. Bethune-Cookman took two of three from them last weekend at The Light no less.

Players know the only way they'll get to play at home again is if they get hot and stun everyone at next week's ACC Tournament in Durham. So can they do it? And more importantly, can they get back to Omaha? Ask closer Kyle Bellamy that question and he might spit venom at you.

“Of course we can get hot,” said Bellamy who with a 3-1 record, 1.15 ERA and 14 saves has been the only consistent arm on the staff Miami has had all season. “We were No. 2 in the nation for awhile. We’re definitely capable. We just have to get that mentality back we had when we swept the Gators in Gainesville and we took 2 of 3 from FSU. I think we just need to get that chip back on our shoulder – the one we had when were trying to prove to everyone we were a pretty good team."

The problem for Miami is that it's going to take more than an attitude adjustment. It's going to take a major overhaul. Only three hitters -- Scott Lawson (.348), Chris Hermann (.314) and Jason Hagerty (.313) -- are batting better than .300. While ace Chris Hernandez has gotten his act together (he's now 6-3 with a 4.24 ERA after a horrendous start), No. 2 starter David Gutierrez is still looking for his first win since March 7th.

Morris had loftier expectations when the season began despite the fact he lost three first round picks and a boatload of talented players from a team that went 53-11 and entered the College World Series last year expecting to win a fifth national title. But despite the recent setbacks Morris hasn't lost hope. Heck, if Fresno State did it last year why can't the Canes?

“We’ve proven we can beat some of the best teams in college baseball and we’ve proven if we don’t go out and play well we’re not going to win,” Morris said. “We’ve put our backs against the wall no question about that. But I know we can respond. I think we’ve swung the bats really good against some good teams, and any team in the Top 25 has a chance to get hot this time of year. Fresno State was 82nd last year and they won it. We have a lot of young players who can grow up quickly over the next few weeks."

As it stands, even if Miami were to win next week's ACC Tournament, the likelyhood remains they could be on the road in the regionals because the NCAA isn't likely to grant more than two in-state teams the right to host. Both the Gators and Seminoles are ranked higher than UM at the moment and both have had much better regular seasons to this point. As it stands, Baseball America projects Miami will be making the trip to Gainesville.

That doesn't bode well for UM. When the Canes have reached Omaha in the past, they've usually done it playing at home. Of their 23 trips to the CWS, only four were achieved by winning a regional on the road (2006, 1996, 1989, 1984, 1974). Morris said this team in his eyes compares a lot to his 2002 team, which won a regional in Gainesville, but then loss a heart breaker to South Carolina in the Super Regional a week later.

“It’s very important for us to host regionals,” Bellamy said. “There was a lot of inspiration we got our own fans last year in those tight games. Sometimes traveling and being in the airplanes and the hotels can wear on you. Hosting Regionals would definitely be a huge lift. Hopefully, it’s not too late and we can turn it on.”

JUST A FEW QUICK NOTES...
> After spending the past month on Marlins detail, I will be going on the road with the baseball team to Durham next week. So, if you want to talk baseball while I'm there, shoot me some questions on the blog or email. I'll probably be live blogging the games.

Eduardo Clements > This week with the Marlins on the road and Clark Spencer on the beat, I got a chance to make my rounds to a few local high schools to catch up on the recruiting front. For those of you interested, I posted three videos -- including an interview with Booker T. Washington running back Eduardo Clements.

While I'm still very skeptical UM will be able to get any of the Tornadoes' top recruits, you should know the Canes at least have a new constant presence on campus. Tim Harris Jr., the son of former coach Ice Harris and a star in track at UM, has begun his high school coaching career this spring at Booker T. He's coaching the quarterbacks. That alone should help Miami stay in contention for Clements, receiver Quinton Dunbar, and defensive end Lyden Trail, who recently picked up an offer from USC.

> As for Miami Springs highly-touted receiver Willis Wright, Miami has definitely offered Wright and is intered in him. But they aren't nearly as interested as Florida State, which has already had five coaches come down to meet with the 6-3, 200-pound receiver in the past year. Miami Springs coach Alex Pacheco told me Monday Wesley McGriff visited the school last year, but no one from UM has been out there yet this spring. Wright got his formal offer from UM in the mail. Physically, Wright is one of the most impressive receivers I've ever seen in Miami-Dade. I'd throw him in the same category as Aldarius Johnson, Dwayne Bowe and Andre Johnson.

> For those of you still on edge over Frank Haith's chase of John Wall, Miami is definitely in the race for the nation's top available recruit. The people I spoke to this week on Wall's behalf told me UM is in his top three and under serious consideration. Wall, by the way, is apparently considering stretching his decision making process past the May 20th deadline.

> In case you missed it, our live weekly Q&As on MiamiHerald.com have been shut down until the start of football season. I'm now doing Marlins Q&As on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. If you want to shoot me questions, feel free to email them to me or place them on the blog. I'm thinking of starting up a Monday Mailbag session if I get some good questions from you.

LITTLE BIRDIE

OMG! An update.....

Of course they can. Who cares. College baseball is followed by parents only. It's not even a blip on the viewing radar.

Besides, U have one of the worst defenses in the entire ACC. Melon head will not fix that in 09 and OU will dismantle U.

Slow weak defense. Terrible coaching carousel. Dwindling fanbase. RENTAL stadium that hores itself out to uber slacker Buffet. The polyvinyl ring of honor is quite prestigious. All of college football envies the satin luster that eminates from the removable plastic.

It will take far more achievement than U have in U to win the average ACC.

More of the same in 09. Big hopes in the summer. At least U will get crushed early in 09 and accept the truth a little earlier.

Manny wrote:

Hey, I resemble that remark! In all honesty, the Canes are in a slump and at the worst possible time. I still believe they'll get it together, but it starts against WF. Can't get it done there, won't get it done this season. Simple as that.

Don't be so smug, Gaytor dope. Your bitter rants are as predictable as Thanksgiving dinner at a Waffle House in Gainesville. Only now, you have to worry about the cracks appearing in Jort Nation:

"Urban Meyer wants former Gators to fall in line and never criticize his program. Shane Matthews wants to tell it like it is on his radio show. So it has come to this: Meyer vs. Matthews in a battle over what should be said on the air. The brouhaha that started over critical remarks Matthews made on his radio show last October reached feverish levels recently when Meyer lashed out at former Gators who make negative comments. Though he never mentions Matthews by name, Meyer said at a recent Gator club meeting, "If you want to be critical of a player on our team or a coach on our team you can buy a ticket for seat 37F, you're not welcome back in the football office. You're either a Gator or you're not a Gator." Does Meyer really have the right to control what former players say, especially those in the media who have a job to do? He seems to think so. Former players in broadcasting do not."

we just got a commitment yesturday....no news on that??? i know your on other details but for heavens sake atleast check in with old sources from time to time.

Using Urbin Meyers logic then HE is not a Gator. He attended Cincinati and his logic says that HE is a bear for life. Let us all enter the REAL world. A FAN loves their CHOSEN team and is disappointed when that team loses. I am sure Shane MAtthews was disappointed in HIS team and his comments reflected that. In the real world he has a job to do and reporting his opinion belongs in the REAL world. Urbin Meyer is a footbal coach. His job is not to attempt to censure negative press. His job is to coach his team and answer for any foibles that occur. His comments smack of megalomania. Get back to the real world Mr Meyer.

Seriously, this is a Florida Gator blog now. Everytime I come here there is just gators, urban meyer, etc.... I'm done on this thing.

just pushing back against the garbage that is Jort Nation.

Right about now the FAIRWEATHER fans who no longer have the Heat or Panthers to watch in the playoffs -- or are tired of the up-and-down struggles of the Marlins -- begin wondering how their team is doing in the old "ping league." Even UM football diehards who are glued to Canesport's football recruiting wire will lift their heads up from their computers for five minutes to ask: How many weeks until Omaha?

U got that right Manny.

Yep. Sounds just like the typical Miami fans that U are.

Seriously, this is a Florida Gator blog now. Everytime I come here there is just gators, urban meyer, etc.... I'm done on this thing.

So take Ur 50% deflated ball and go home U quitter.

Adios

I`d hate to see the boyz go into the ACC without a sweep against WF..Whether we host or not we need that for at least a shot of confidence

We have stranded way to many runners lately as well

DAU!!!

U want the fake (so U feel better) or real news on Ur new 1 Star wr/cb Jeremy Davis ???

Fake first...

New commit could bring size to CB position

> Posted by Shandel Richardson on May 13, 2009 01:16 PM
CORAL GABLES _ One of the glaring weaknesses in the secondary has been size the past two years.

Although guys like DeMarcus Van Dyke, Brandon Harris and Bruce Johnson all have solid cover skills, they came up just a little short against teams that featured bigger receivers. The latest verbal commitment could change that.

On Tuesday, Cape Coral's Jeremy Davis joined the `Canes' 2010 commitment class. He is 6-1 and 172 pounds, but will likely pack on more weight before arriving in Coral Gables.

"I think my size makes me a true corner," Davis said. "That's where I see myself playing in college."

Davis, who played last season at Fort Myers High, is the half-brother of former UM standout Phillip Buchanan. So he is very familiar with the program. He would attend games and practices while his brother was on the team.

"I got to work out with them and stuff like that," Davis said. "I went down there a lot. It's really my dream school."

Davis, who runs the 40 in 4.3 seconds, transferred high schools when his family moved in January. He is also expected to play running back, receiver, and safety this season.

Great pick up, can't argue with the size speed and bloodlines.

Love this. Slowly but surely Canes are coming back.

If Jacory and O-line can develop quickly we should be contenders for ACC title.

And while this year might be too soon, next years team might have enough development done to have a chance to begin competing for national titles again. Big key is development of Jacory in bringing back our QB tradition.

172lbs is being very generous...

Not quite the "lock down" corner U were looking for huh RYan?

By the way, if you add up all the 1 star 2010 commits U have, U might just get a 5 star player between them all... U keep buiding that depth.

i was wondering how long it would take you to show up..

Not hating on the Gators my bro goes there. We all know college football goes in cycles and you guys are up now and have a loaded team. We are restocking the cupboard with talent. last time i checked nix, glan, and chandler are 4star players...Did also read Davis was clocked at a 10.4 100m...not quite as slow as you are saying. Gator fans are funny...ive never gone on one of thier boards at all because when we were on top we didnt care what they did...amd still dont..enjoy your time at the top...the U will be back soon enough

" Only now, you have to worry about the cracks appearing in Jort Nation:"
-yourcanes

How desperate are U when you post meyers comments and label them "cracks?"

Gator Nation is stronger than EVER U gd fool. And U are dumber than ever. U should be paying attention to your new "lockdown corner."

Just another cruel joke at Beanpole U.

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT THERE IS A LOT CRAP WRITTEN HERE BY FANS OF A TEAM THAT IS NOT WILLING TO PLAY UM YEAR AFTER YEAR, MAYBE WHAT ALL YOU GAYTOR FANS SHOULD DO IS GET TOGETHER WITH YOUR PRESIDENT AND GET A YEARLY SERIES WITH "THE U" AND IF YOUR TEAM BEATS UM EVERY YEAR THEN YOU CAN TALK ALL THE CRAP THAT YOU WANT, BUT FOR A TEAM THAT HAS ONLY BEATEN UM ONCE IN THE LAST 20+ YEARS YOU GUYS SURE TALK A LOT CRAP.

Nice way to start the series against WF..Keep it going

No time to ease up now

DAU!!!

No joke. I couldn't believe the 23 runs. Hopefully, that hotness will carry them into the ACC tourne.

P.S. I am so over this Gayturd. There is absolutely no reason for any of us to "bite" on his idiotic comments. All he does is sit here all day, and fish. Eventually someone bites, and he gets dumber. How 'bout we just ignore this num num, and go about our Cane ways? All this Gayturd has is envy anyway:

They didn't win 58 home games in a row.
They didn't draft 14 years straight of first rounders.
They don't dominate the NFL with 7 pro bowlers.
They didn't win 5 NCs.
They didn't play in 10 of them.
They didn't dominate CFB for 20+ years.
They haven't been undefeated.
They don't have a winning record in bowls.
And especially, they were beat on for 25 years FINALLY winning against a dismantled program that held them for 3 quarters with a redshirt QB surrounded by a bunch of TRUE freshman.

They can enjoy their two years of success with a hiccup in the middle (9-4 with a smashing by Big Blue in a bowl). ROTFLMMFAO!!!!

chronic name-change clown is back with his liberal use of the word "fool." You must have heard that ad nauseum as a child (assuming you are no longer a child). When the coach starts ripping former playes and gives an ultimatum that "you are either a Gator or you're not" that is a crack. Former players, especially those that did not play for the Turban clown, will start picking sides. This could get fun. I will be watching. And laughing.

360 Cane - its wake buddy, THE worst team in the conference and prob the worst team in a lot of other conferences. Dont get too confident about what happens this series. The teams that Miami will face in the ACC tournament are night and day compared to Wake

Since these Gaytor Trolls won't go away and claim to have the "facts", here are some more facts about the Gaytors that have the Gaytors ranked at the top in 2009 -

Gaytor Criminal Nation:

*tried to make a top 10, from best to worst or is it worst to best (I got confused)…. But there were so many heinous crimes/assaults/stabbings/shootings and theft that I had to list some evil-doing as honorable mention. Like the “Its good to be Chris Rainey” recruitment or the mysterious throat slashing keg stealer.

Here are my top 10:

1. After Jarvis “Puffy” Moss jumped up (Ganja increased his vertical by 18″) and salvaged the croc’s season against the Gamecocks by blocking a last second field goal attempt, it was revealed he to also failed a drug test during the summer as the clock ticked to zero. Guess what game he missed? The showdown between top ranked UF versus division 1AA Western Carolina.

2. Gator great, Marcus “Medicinal Puff” Thomas - a multiple drug test failure, pot and GHB. Gator fans tried to convince us all it was from the same test… then the truth came out, near the end of the season with his dismissal from the team. Moss and Thomas were both drafted by the Broncos. **bleep** was Shanahan thinking?

3. Baby Momma Slappin Avery Atkins. The alleged victim, Benerah Sanford, told police: She and Atkins argued Saturday on a drive to Atkins’ grandmother’s house. Atkins leaned over and punched her at least 13 times, and pushed her face against the car’s window while he conversed with relatives. Every time Sanford tried to exit the car, Atkins either punched her or stepped on the gas. When the pair finally arrived at Atkins’ home, she ran off and called the police.
Earlier this month, Atkins was found in a car in Daytona Beach with weed, gun and digital scales. To top it off, it was not his car. He had enrolled in UF in January with plans to “fight his way back to the cornerback slot.”

4. Brandon James a football player and Brandon Powell who coincidently is the basketball player who sucker punched the Vandy student in the back of the head [link], were found together in Gainesville with…. you guessed it: marijuana in the car during an undercover “buy bust”. One felony and one misdemeanor — purchase of a controlled substance and possession of >20 grams of marijuana — suspended indefinitely.

5. WR Riley Cooper smashed a windshield, welcome the perfect gater. And just who is Jasim Alidina? Adlina was the victim of Freshman Riley Cooper’s flailing haymaker through his car window. While Alidina survived the incident, remarkably unscathed, neither Cooper nor the car were as lucky. Cooper was taken to the Morton Plant Hospital.

6. Florida defensive back Dorian Munroe charged with felony for removal of parking boot and placing it in his trunk. This was later ironed out as expected as UF is thin at the corner. One felony — theft of a police metal parking boot from his car

7. At Da Club, Ronnie “The Rifleman” Wilson slaps some guy, then spits on him, then ends it by shooting at him, luckily police actually stepped in one time before he killed that guy. two felonies and one misdemeanor — gun in a parking lot near campus — suspended indefinitely. THIS ONE ACTUALLY CAME BACK TO THE TEAM

8. LB Dusty “Rhodes” Doe, pummels some dude (ala Channing the Chainsaw Crowder) in a Alaucha County vs. Pasco County gang fight (Reds vs. Crips style). Punishment? No suspension from Meyer. Doe to face the (Jaws intro theme) Leadership Committee. one misdemeanor — disorderly conduct for parking garage brawl

9. The 7-Man shower Self shooting gun incident, Gator players led by Dee Webb, Andre “Bubba” Caldwell and Reggie Lewis had a $60,000 SUV loaded with improperly registered AK’s and other machine guns… and they were all drunk while shooting at apartment windows for fun. Of course initially nobody took the blame and they all said they were in the shower (together) and that the gun must have shot itself… Gators went with the deniable plausibility angle when Dee Webb shot off his arsenal saying he had already declared for the draft, so he was no longer a Gator.

T10. Dallas “Bike Taker” Baker, steals a bike, but when cops questioned him, Dallas said, “heck man, I just thought the bike was ‘abandoned’”. The sophomore was issued a sworn complaint from UPD as an officer stopped Baker near Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (which is a great place to take a deuce). Baker said he was late for an appointment and picked up an abandoned bicycle. Misdemeanor!!!

T10. Linebacker Taurean Charles. A UF student said Charles touched her against her will, the sworn complaint issued by the university police department said. Charles allegedly slammed her on the bed and onto a computer desk, picked her up over his head and threw her down on her roommate’s bed, according to the complaint. Charles was later dismissed from the Florida team.

Who is worse? Florida or Montana? [link]

Honorable Mention

Nyan (Cap’n Stabbin) Boateng gets into a heated arguement with some chick, a knife fight breaks out, Nyan Dogg ends up bloodied on the floor, luckily he was still alive.

“Nyan has some issues he is dealing with, and in the meantime, he will not participate in any team activities,” Florida spokesman Steve McClain said.

WR Percy Harvin, the star of the 2006 recruiting class, is a guy who was banned from Virginia High School sports. Why? Because he slugged a ref and had been involved in numerous brawls.

Chris Rainey and other recruits brag about how many gifts and wads of cash they are getting from Gator Alumni/Boosters… Cash, Jewelry, and throwback jerseys. But he was just joking. Ha Ha Ha.

Joakim Noah swipes at Vandy cheerleader, and later confronts the Vandy coach! That will show her and him. They were gatorbait!

Two Gator linebackers Darryl Gresham Jr. and Jon Demps go up in smoke, Cheech and Chong style, suspended from team on National Signing Day. Suspension/dismissals free up crucial scholarships for incoming Blue Chip recruits. Linebacking now a concern.

The unknown 6′4″ 280 pounder. A University of Florida student claimed a Gator football player stole his beer keg from the back of his truck which was heavily damaged as his head hit it. The student had a knot on his head and his neck was slashed by a ring. This was reported to the police as per a story in the Florida Alligator. This story quickly vanished. The student got his keg back and continued scraping the paint out of the knot on his head (legend says that the student now has a full scholarship!!)

"University of Florida Gator Football Players Jacques Rickerson and Ronnie Wilson arrested for beating and strangling women" This is the Gators 4th arrest in 2008. The Gaytors, however, are far outpacing the Noles in the "charges" and "felony" categories.

Other 2008 Gator misbehavins...
Stealing and using the credit card of a dead teammate's dead girlfriend.
Underage Drinking
Open container
The weed thing mentioned above

Go to the Fulmer Cup webpage for more rankings. The Fulmer cup measures misbehavior of college football teams.
The Gators are currently 13th, while FSU sits at 31st, and Miami is not ranked.

The Gaytors won't stay at 13th for long, however, as they will definitely vault up the rankings, possibly to # 1. The gators will receive 13 points for these latest arrests by my best guess: 4 (hitting girl + intensive care), 2 (simple battery), 2 (obstruction of justice), and for Wilson: +2 (assault) and + 2 (battery). They might also receive a bonus point +1.
The gators finished 3rd in 2007, while Miami and FSU did not even make the leader board.
UFelony finished 6th in 2006.
Factoring in even the most conservative of estimates, UF is now the ALL-TIME most misbehaved team in the Fullmer Cup!

2009 update: University of Florida police arrested Gators offensive lineman Carl Johnson on Monday for violating a sexual violence restraining order. This is the football team's third arrest since November. Cornerback Jacques Rickerson was kicked off the team for domestic battery. Quarterback Cam Newton, who has transferred, allegedly stole a student's laptop and threw it out of his dorm window upon police suspicion.

I ONLY WENT BACK A COUPLE OF YEARS CAUSE I WAS TIRED - but U get the picture Gaytor Trolls.

Meyers does a good job of getting them off the hook it seems till they get real bad then the nutt gets them, what a joke of a college at Florida !!!!

ESPN NEWS:

"Shane Matthews played quarterback at Florida in the early 1990s, but when Matthews criticized Meyer's game strategy during Florida's upset loss to Mississippi on his radio show last fall, Meyer was not happy. And though he didn't mention Matthews by name in a recent Gator Club appearance, it seemed that his comments about ex-players pledging allegiance to the orange and blue were made with Matthews in mind, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

SEC blog

ESPN.com's Chris Low writes about all things SEC in his conference blog.

• Blog network

"If you want to be critical of a player on our team or a coach on our team you can buy a ticket for seat 37F, you're not welcome back in the football office," Meyer said, according to the report. "You're either a Gator or you're not a Gator."

The rift apparently started when Matthews criticized the offense following the 31-30 loss to Mississippi -- the game that produced Tim Tebow's now-famous postgame speech."

Who else has recently said the same thing that Urban breaktherules Meyers just repeated, i.e, "your either with us or against us"... yeah, that's right, it was good ol George W. Bush... can you say paranoid?

This just proves what a joke that program is over there in "Deliverence Country" a/k/a Gaynesville - Urban the Dicktator is letting everyone know that he will not stand to be criticized - if you say anything bad about him he will lock you out of the football office, as well as the Gaytor Club and he will take away your Gaytor Card; so keep your mouth shut or you will not be able to participate in any more circle jerks with the other toothless Gaytor fans and will have to go back to your family renunions to pick up chicks!! Seems to me that Urban the crier is a bit sensitive - "he can't handle the truth! just like he can't speak the truth!

It is clear to all non-Gaytors that Matthews is more of a Gaytor than Urban, after all Matthews played for the Gaytors and went to school at Florida and Urban did neither. But Urban soontobeheadedtonotredame Meyers wants to lock Matthwes out because his "liwwle feelings got hurt!!!" Mommy, that mean man is saying bad things about me...wa wa wa... Now Now girls, play nice - just get your T-bag doll and go play in the pen with your sister. What a bunch of losers over there in farmville... no wonder everyone hates the Gaytors.

Davis is a true big time D-1 prospect. We should all be pleased to have him. Turds are jealous- Couldnt get him.

MAnny- How is it that UM dropped so far down- their # of losses is 1 less than UF, they swept UF 3-0 at G-ville, they beat FSU 2/3. UF recently lost 3-4: FGCU, 2 to LSU, and managed to drop 1 slot in the ESPN poll. WTF???

CHALLENGE TO ALL CANE FANS ON THIS BLOG: DON'T ANSWER "HE WHO SOULD NOT BE MENTIONED". LEAVE HIM TO HIS MISERABLE EXISTENCE!

My correction: UM has one more loss than UF.

This blog is flaming...im out of here

Go Canes!! I love the Baseball team of course but I CANNOT WAIT 4 FOOTBALL 2 START. TIM ICE WILL GET ALL THOSE STUDS FROM BOOKER T. REMEMBER BRANDON IS ON THE TEAM TOO.

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT THERE IS A LOT CRAP WRITTEN HERE BY FANS OF A TEAM THAT IS NOT WILLING TO PLAY UM YEAR AFTER YEAR...

U (and FSU) had Ur chance to join the SEC years ago and play with the BIG BOYS but U chose that power house conference formerly known as the BIG lEast.

U turned tale and are now hiding mid-pack in the ACC. The conference with the LEAST BCS appearances since it's inception.

U need Florida and the SEC, they don't have any use for U.

Play in January and start popping off.

P.S. I am so over this Gayturd. There is absolutely no reason for any of us to "bite" on his idiotic comments. All he does is sit here all day, and fish. Eventually someone bites, and he gets dumber. Ur about as smart as a fish ... Same hook, same 2 lb. test, same little fish gets thrown back time after time.

Get off my MirrOlure til U can play with the BIG Fish.

WOW!!!!!

Davis is a true big time D-1 prospect. We should all be pleased to have him. Turds are jealous- Couldnt get him.

Dude had 1 other offer. ONE ! And that was from West Virginia.

U are reeeeaaaachhhing... BIG TIME ? NOT ONE BIG TIME SCHOOL OFFERED... DO U Comprehend that ? He's allllll Urs.

WTF???

Going 8-10 at crunch time will do it . Simple math.

4-3 40

4-3 40 junior in hs

UM isnt worth anything this year. lackluster schedule, will be lucky if they end up in an ok regional where theyll face a lackluster FIU squad who will send them home packing. both teams had fairly simple schedules (yes, i know UM is in the ACC, but the Sun Belt is ranked 6th or 7th best), but if the Canes manage to survive the ACC tournament, which they wont, they'll end up losing out.

oh, and by the way, whoever voted for the top 25 rankings has to be an alum, these guys are waaay overrated.

Seminole senior Andre Debose gave 100-meter dash favorite Dentarius Locke a good run in their afternoon preliminary race in the 4A state track and field meet at Showalter Field.

Debose, a UF football recruit, clocked a career-best time of 10.46 seconds, only five-hundreths behind Locke's 10.41. To the naked eye there was little separation between the two as they crossed the finish line. They are the two fastest qualifiers for tonight's final, which should go off around 7:15 p.m.

Debose's fastest time of the season coming in was 10.63.

Locke has run 10.31, faster than the state meet record of 10.37 set last year by South Lake's Jeff Demps - who took his speed to UF for football and track.

I'm NOT Going to Notre Dame ...

Maybe, after next year, U ought to try to get Spurrier to make it interesting...

I've been saying this for years: ever since the lady Donna took over as the U's president, the atmosphere has changed. This isn't a bad thing. But it seems that sports championships aren't the priority anymore.

Case in point: the U's football team has just about the highest academic rating in the NCAA. But I don't think it will compete this year, or next year, for that matter, for the national or even the ACC championship: not as long as it has to compete against schools that put sports before academics.

It could be that the U's glory days as a home of championship sports programs are over.

UM isnt worth anything this year. lackluster schedule

theyll face a lackluster FIU squad

FIU will need a strong showing in the Sun Belt Tournament next week to get into an NCAA regional. The thought here is FIU must at least reach the Sun Belt title game.

the Sun Belt is ranked 6th or 7th best

A John Wall decision could come as early as this weekend, with Miami and Kentucky the two likeliest destinations for the top point guard in the Class of 2009. … If Kentucky lands him, the drama was unnecessary (based on his original destination being Memphis when John Calipari was the coach). If Miami gets Wall, you can chalk this down as one of the top recruiting coups of the past 10 years. Hurricanes coach Frank Haith will have pulled off quite a feat if he gets Wall to replace Jack McClinton, making the Canes an NCAA team and ensuring Miami is a must-see destination for hoops for the next 10 months.

I was 21 in 1984, punk.

for your information, 2001 was 8 yrs ago, 1991 was 18 yrs ago. If your little mind is unable to appreciate past championships when they were not that long ago, then your little mind doesn't even belong on this blog. With your thinking, d-(rhymes with swoosh) bag, then we should all forget about 1996, and for that matter 2006. Bottom line is, for the last 30 years, No one. I mean no school has 5.

Closest are Oklahoma, UF-3

So buh bye, a-(rhymes with grass) hole, your arguments are empty. You and all the gator morons who come on this blog to hate the U have nothing to say. The jealousy spews out of your pores and it is clear from what is coming out of your keypads. JEALOUS. Jealous because after 2010, it will be over for you. Maybe if youre lucky, it will be another ten years before you smell a BCS, while UM and FSU, even Alabama, and Georgia are on the rise. And once the NCAA realizes that something fishy is going on there in trailorville, just like the bomb will drop at USC soon, it will be over for all you ignorant crackers, and we won't here from you for another 20 years, just like before!!

Let us not forget the past or we will be sentenced to repeat it. THAT IS WHAT YOU LOSERS FEAR!
1984, 1987, 1989, 1991, 2001, (2002)

PLAYED FOR: 1986, 1988, 1992, 1994

ROBBED FOR THE CHANCE: 2000

U CAN'T TOP THIS. IT'S THE FACTS. UF IS NOT UM AND WILL NEVER BE. FACE IT. IT'S REALITY, MY DEAR TRAILOR INHABITANTS!

This is the year that the Baby Canes grow up in a hurry - a tough schedule will build character, and adversity will make them stronger...Just like a catagory 5 hurricane, the U is gaining strength and entering warm waters...conditions a very favorable for strengthening. Forecast is for the U to continue to recruit lots of talent, coupled with new coordinators and plenty of experience under their belt...Whoosh...CAT 5!!! GO CANES.
