Dwayne Collins flirted with the idea of going pro after his junior season. The flirtation is officially over. Collins withdrew his name from the upcoming NBA Draft Thursday and will return to for his senior season.
The 6-8 senior forward had workouts with the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat, but had not hired an agent to retain the option of returning to the Hurricanes. “I’m really glad I took this opportunity,” Collins said in a statement released by the school. “I got to talk to some NBA personnel about what I need to do so I can reach my goal of playing professional basketball. It was a really good experience and will help me next year. I appreciate Coach [Frank] Haith and the staff’s support of me in all of this.”
“I think this was a positive experience for Dwayne,” added Miami head coach Frank Haith. “He will be able to use the feedback he received as he continues to develop his game. He is an important player for our team, and I absolutely believe he has the potential to be one of the best big men in the ACC this season.”
For the second-straight summer, Collins also spent two weeks in Houston working out with former NBA coach John Lucas. Collins was UM's second-leading scorer for the second year in a row with 10.6 points per game, while shooting a team-high 56.5 percent form the field and adding a team-high 7.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per outing. He ranked fifth in the ACC with 3.1 offensive rebounds per game and 11th in overall rebounding.
Collins – who has played in all but one game in three seasons as a Hurricane with 71 career starts – posted 16 double-figure scoring and six double-figure rebounding performances last season, including a 16-point, 14-rebound effort in the Paradise Jam semifinals versus UConn. In 2008, he scored a career-high 26 points on 12-of-14 shooting in Miami’s upset of Duke en route to National Player of the Week honors by ESPN.com and Rivals.com.
Collins will be among four seniors on the Hurricanes’ 2009-10 squad, which will also welcome a recruiting class ranked among the nation’s Top 25.
Underclassmen who declare for the draft have until June 15 to remove their name and maintain college eligibility. The NBA Draft is scheduled for June 25.
Teammate Jack McClinton is the only Hurricane from last season who could possibly get drafted.

Im glad DC is coming back for his Sr. season. Getting feedback from a few pro teams and scouts will help him out alot for his future as well as this coming year
Another veteran leader providing a voice for this talented class coming in is what we will need
Good luck in the upcoming draft J Mc
Look forward to seeing you at the next level

Smartest move I've seen by a cane since Ed Reed decided to stay for his senior season.
This will not only help HIM> but it will also help his team.
You need to be more agressive on the boards, better conditioned, and more consistent. Period. end of story.

No doubt he could play TE better then anything double-wideville can produce and I cant care if hes never played football before
Also another sure bet is he will be able to stay out of the prison system unlike any player in that rat-hole of a trailor park sports program
Keep running to any Cane site and paste the same comments over and over

I'm hearing a lot of late-first (round) or early-second. And early-second to mid-second. Basically, it's anywhere from No. 22 to 60. If I'm not taken in the first round, I wouldn't say it would be disappointing. I've worked so hard. Even if you're in the second round, you can still work and get a spot. I love to work.

The Nationals had four players in for pre-draft workouts today, including …
Michael Broad, a Florida high school shortstop who has committed to the University of Miami and is said to want a seven-figure signing bonus to bypass college.

I don`t see the Nationals using that kinda scratch for a signing bonus on any player
Thats what makes them the keystone cops of Major League Baseball
If they somehow by a miracle do draft him then I wish him nothing but the best
The way they are trying to unload anybody making decent $ on that team. I had better turn my ringer up loud on my phone in case they give me a call, and I havent played in over 15 years and am now a pounding Doritos.
I`ll only ask for cheeseburgers and fries for a signing bonus and a lifetime supply of hot wings for a contract

Manny:
Last year, I can honestly tell you that when we played Florida, I was the first person that bitched out our fired coordinator for the lack of heart on part of the coaches when our kids were playing with intensity and coaches were calling plays not to lose. I would now like to make sure we star rallying around Jeff Luc to come to the U.
I am a firm believer that with Luc,no college team wil be able to run up the middle on Us. With Forston, Luther Robinson, Bailey,Porter and Todd Chandler, I can't imagine anyone even trying. If the do, the run into Telemaque. I just cant imagine any offense, being able to do that.
We can have the middle of the Defense about as solid as we have EVER had it. let's start pushing the STAFF to make sure we get LUC.please attach this highlight reel and make sure we landed this very talented player. Thanks !!!

Going to the CWS was clearly "doable". The UM team blew it badly by not hosting the regionals. I.e by choking the last 3 weeks of the season.
regardless, watching the Gators be spanked by a C-USA team was too much to bear. I LMFAO.

Hmmmmmmm, kinda like being 19-19 the past three years and only 1 'Ship in 18+ years huh?
U just might have a point. But the SEC will continue to get the nations best players period ... What will be Ur excuse when Ur 25-25 ?
4 outta 6 Last 'Ships ? SEC with more a coming...
ACC ? 3 'Ships since 1982.
Posted by: The Times... They Are A Changing For U | June 09, 2009 at 12:25 AM
Nations best players? How many NFLers does the U have? If their is a measure to define "excellent players" its if they play in the NFL.
#1 UM
#2 LSU
#3 Michigan
#4 Ohio State
#5 USC
#6 Texas
#7 FSU
You see, the arguments by SEC fanatics doesn't panout. Ok, SEC teams have won 5/10 NCs. That's good. That is without argument.
Youalways blaba about 1 ship in the last 18 yrs. Well, UF has only won 3 inthelast 30 years while UM has won 5. theat ratio is also without argument. You lose.

The NFL still loves the ACC, SEC: As we told you last Friday, over the past five drafts before Saturday the SEC (191) and the ACC (176) have had more draft picks than any of the nine other Division I-A conferences. In Saturday’s first round the SEC had three of the first six picks, four of the top 12 and five of the top 18.
ACC had four of the first nine and nine of the first 45, which was more than any other conference.

that's 3 in 12 years not 30 math wizard ... U have 1 in 18 and counting ...
But by all means, do include the 4 prior to 1991 and then ask Urself, where u are now, where ur going and then just who's actually living in the past glory that no longer exists...
those are ur words, u digest them, then spew out some more B.S. that will help make U feel better about the "present" and recent past of Ur failing Football program.
It's 2009 Cane fan ... Ur 19-19 over the past 3 years on ur way to 25-25... That's duh new U thang .

very creative. Did you think up the "that's a Gator thing" all by yourself? That wouldn't have been a 'Canes slogan from 15 - 20 years ago just now regurgitated by the johnny-come-lately UFelony fans who don't know how to act with their recent success.
Like I heard many of the OU fans tell you at the NC game this year: "Act like you been here before." They should know. They were winning NC's while the UFelony 'Turds were mired in horse crap.

SEC: 4
you lose. that is in print. don't talk about winning the 3rd till it happens. stay with facts like, your campus is located in the world's largest trailer park.
You live a lie, UFelony fan. SEC is dominant, ACC mediocre? 6 - 4 says otherwise.

1978-2008 =30 years, you mullet wearing Gainseville sk-in head hi-ck.
Observe: Can you read?
All time:
UM 28-26 vs UF
30-23 vs FSU
Since 1975
(I'll be kind- I will include all these years to "include" other SEC teams that were good way back then):
UM is number 1 in NCs won.
2nd in 2nd place finishes
10-7 vs UF
UM's winning percentage-#9
UF-#12.
Only 2 SEC teams cracked the top 10: Ala and Ga.
-Since 1965(41 years!!!!)- UM has the most NCs
-Since 1955 (51 years!!!!!!) Only Oklahoma has more NCs than UM
You see, no matter how you cut it, UF is still Um's beeee-ouch and now you can go to your barn. Because you gator fans do not know how to act like you've been there- Oh, that's right. You havent. Only that when you do win something, you like to rub it in people's faces. ha ha ha.

diferences in victories, NCs, players in NFL, etc., are so narrow that the SEC cannot claim dominance. It is no longer true. You are "dominant" when you have 5 more players in the NFL than the (supposedly) mediocre ACC? This, after the (supposedly) mediocre ACC beat the SEC head-to-head 6 - 4 last year. Somebody has been spending too much time in the Gainesville community trailer pool.
