Top 60 Countdown: No. 53, OL Ben Jones

As we continue to stroll forward in the countdown of the Top 60 players at UM, we take a look at No. 53: Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Ben Jones.

Ben Jones > What we heard about him on Signing Day '08: Of the eight players UM nabbed from Northwestern's national championship team of 2007, Jones was among the least highly regarded although he was ranked 17th at his position by Rivals.com. Injured as a junior at Northwestern, he made the switch from defense to right tackle his senior season and played well. He chose UM over Clemson, LSU, Auburn, Ohio State and Tennessee.

> What he's done as a Cane: He hurt himself early in fall practices and came back late last season to participate with the scout team. This spring, he impressed line coach Jeff Stoutland at right tackle and is currently listed second on the depth chart behind Matt Pipho.

> What Eye On The U expects from him in '09: Jones (6-6, 310) and fellow freshman Jermaine Johnson should see time in the rotation at tackle. Ultimately, he and Johnson are seen as the future at tackle for UM, who will be losing Jason Fox after 2009. Jones needs to improve his strength numbers. Right now, he trails most of the freshmen offensive lineman.

Did Fox improve his numbers this spring? Wonder if he has a shot at being drafted in the 1st round?

If Ben Jones can stay low, bend at the hips not the waist, he can be a very solid Tackle.

We can't afford to miss at OL, hopefully he works out.

Jones was hurt. Makes sense that his weight room numbers aren't What they should be. Especially since he was hurt for a year in high school as well. He can play, just needs to get stronger and stay healthy.

If it was only THAT simple.

you can have 60 nfl players, but shannon would still be a loser

u of miami, great comeback. my dad can beat up your dad. hows this for reality. if miami doesnt show real improvement this year, then the university should PUBLICLY appologize to larry coker. the trend of the program shows no signs of improvement on the field. just HYPE of a great recruiter.wins and losses make the difference. fire shannon

You sound like a scorn reject by RS. By asking the university to publicly apologize to Coker should things not working out with RS (I doubt that very seriously) tells me everything I need to know about you and your knowledge (lack thereof) of sports.

Your analytical/critical thinking skills is so lacking that you can't even see past your nose.

I know you want to get some attention on here cause you're lonely. I just hope (for your sake) you don't want get more than you're bargaining for.

June 30 is the first day of the second summer session, and that is when UM's freshmen are expected to report. But two of the 2009 signees are not expected to report and could be headed to prep school. Read on.

hey manny what going on ? i found this on the rivals.com ? do anyone know who are the 2 signees are not expected to report and could be headed to prep school/

it all about the u:

Rumor has it that it's Malcolm Bunche and Prince Kent. Hope I'm wrong. Don't have access to a Rival's account.

TRU STORY! Just looked it up on rivals. Prince Kent n Malcolm Bunche are having clearinghouse issues! Bunche is already preparing to go to Milford, n said Randy (n staff) have been "wonderful thru the whole process"! We'll see what happens...

by the end of october, another season of hope down the drain, it will be whether this program wants to win or not. shannon is a bust, has been from day one. you so called "true fans" will either keep making excuses and be content with the hype of a "great recruiter", or you will puke up the kool-aid you drank and see shannon off somewhere else. a real coach will come in and coach the canes back to the program that set the standard in college football. SHANNON IS NOT THAT MAN. puke quick, or get used to offseason hype. FIRE SHANNON
